    We use cap instead of this. This looks like it works a lot better, also that is a super cool tool to remove the gravel, we use spud bars, that weed wacker works a million times better

    What is the purpose of a gravel roof

    • @dannypowers4995
      @dannypowers4995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the old days the gravel was put down to keep the direct sun from baking the the roof. That's all the gravel is there for. Before gravel was metal slag from the walls of the foundry furnaces.

    • @100westup
      @100westup 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To protect the roof from the elements.

    • @zackpoll8893
      @zackpoll8893 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Specifically to protect the tar from the UV degradation of the sun. The UV rays break down the tar and the roof would fail quickly. The gravel blocks the light from hitting any of the actual tar roof.

    • @jamileena
      @jamileena 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      also, the gravel slows down the flow of the water on a low slope roof. Drains are usually in the roof with downspouts - no gutters, so slowing down the water flow is important to be able to catch the roof water collection into the little hole.

    • @burakbey1068
      @burakbey1068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamileena that's a good information, some of the old roof drains connect directly to the main drain system. Slowing down the water is very important to avoid water comes back from toilet or tubs drains.

      The tool you are referring to is called a power broom - you can purchase online or maybe your local Hardware Store. If you are in an area where artificial turf is popular you can check with them as well. If you'd like recommendations on your project please don't hesitate to give us a call (877) 823-7873

    Yes this is only a temporary repair make sure you have the roofers pressure wash the roof before applying the waterproof paint and mesh. If they don’t not wash off the dirt it will blister off and start to peel after there 1 year warranty is up that they usually offer. So yeah make them wash it off, also they can burn off the dirt with a roofing torch and scrap it till it becomes a black smooth surface to apply paint.

    • @Surecoatsystems
      @Surecoatsystems  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SCRS is intended to be a long lasting renewable system, which does require cleaning prior to the waterproof coating & mesh being applied. Full Roof restorations are eligible for 10 year renewable warranties when applied by approved contractor.

      Pressure washing a GBUR that has leaks is a good way to inject water into the underlying insulation.
