5800u on the other hand is not Zen2, but Zen3 has an extra 100Mhz on the CPU and GPU over the 5700u. Because it is Zen3, it is about 10-20% faster CPU at the same clock speed, meaning it is close to 13-23% faster with the better IPC, and core clocks. I think one big problem with these devices are that they are spec'd to combos of standard CPU/I-GPU packages.
To keep both price and heat down, you want to get an entry level CPU but want the highest performing I-GPU, but you can't pick and choose because it comes integrated from Intel/AMD.
The steam deck has them all beat, because its packing RDNA 2 graphics whilst having just a "good enough" cpu. This not only lowers price, but beats the more expensive competition on both performance (stronger GPU matters a lot more than CPU) and cooling.

okay update i bought this because i simply couldn't be bothered waiting on the steamdeck plus the "1440p" ish screen was a great selling point.
Installed retroarch and poked around a few games. Amazing stuff! There is a warning i've heard that some windows updates might mess up the controller buttons, forcing you to have to wipe and restart everything. that's not good. Suggest that you install something like anydesk or teamviewer so you can control the device remotely in case this happens. Also maybe pause windows updates a month at a time (it let me pause it for 5 weeks) once you have everything set up. So as long as you have good AV, or you don't do anything dumb (get AV) there's no reason for a driver update or windows system update.
So happy with the purchase. It is pretty heavy and enormous though! wow

But clock for clock RDNA2 is ~20-30% faster than VegaII, however, the steamdeck is running at a 25% clock deficite over a 5800u. Now what i'm hoping is that, because RDNA2 often runs to 2.6Ghz, that the 1.6Ghz is just a battery saver mode, but we cant assume it will be getting a higher speed mode, so for now, only slightly better than a 5800u/5700g with good RAM

With this ~100USD kit of RAM (overclocked to 4933 CL17) 73GBps this RAM is on par with DDR5 5600CL40 (74GBps according to MSI), which is faster than the supposed speed of the steamdeck.
This is all assuming that 1600Mhz is the fastest speed of the Steamdeck GPU, if there are turbo frequencies to 2Ghz, it would be ~25% faster than the VegaII 8 in the 5700G-5800u-4800u. If Valve/AMD wanted to, this GPU could easily hit 2600Mhz, but it would probably use 30-38w at this frequency. Personally, i'd love a turbo mode, even if it required you to be pluged into a charger. That speed should be good enough for nearly all 2019 and older games at 1080p medium or higher. With things like Forza horizon 5 maybe hitting 60FPS average at 1080p medium high mix.

A 7w ultra low power cpu and a ~35w class dedicated GPU wouldn’t be far off their current power usage and I think could be faster in a lot of games.

@@tormaid42 The GPD Win Max is the handheld with the highest power draw and it ships at 28W for the CPU maximum.
What you're suggesting is a maximum of 42W. That's an extra 50% power consumption. In the case of a standard 47WHr battery for these handhelds, you'd get less than a single hour of gaming (the screen and other components also use about 7W).
So no, still neutering battery life.

I want this with thunderbolt. That way it's my gaming machine on the go, and my 4k gaming station when i dock it at home

A cool use case would be to try to use it in a dual pc stream setup. Not sure if it would be any good, but interesting nonetheless!

Can we give Nintendo credit for making the form factor work? These things will obviously run circles around a Switch but the Switch definitely laid the ground work for these devices.

I'm new! And... I'm curious! At 12:12 there's an overlay about system details. And I'm wondering what software is that (and I'm thinking... "sorry, you probably get asked this a lot...").

BRO !! please do a thorough hard core comparison / test / review once once the steam deck comes out with all three devices .
-please come up with some test to show how well they do things other than gamming.
-also please go head to head playing some halo/csgo online multiplayer in a match together with all 3 devices

Did I miss something, all these comparisons to the Aya Neo Next, but I don't recall Linus even reviewing that one, just the older Aya Neo Pro from last year that he reviewed this month.

I am curious if that long press also allows for you to use the D-pad for moving the cursor, on hand held I use the D-pad way more than an analog stick.

The problem with the "Show Desktop" button is a Windows problem and depends on the game. Different games handle alt-tabbing and show-desktop in different ways. Skyrim is the hardest game I have ever had to minimize soo far; only way it works is to Crtl-Alt-Delete.
