    At 66 yrs old I still remember when my Dad brought home the new Austin Cambridge, 1965, Canada. The smell, wonderful.

      I think the smell is mainly burning oil and overheating! All jokes aside, I can only imagine what it felt like to have one of these on your driveway, new. At 49, I just fell in love with her on the internet, and had to have her!

    Austin has more class than 404 ....

    My late father had one of these as a company car in the mid sixties. He was much happier with the 1968 Austin 1800 he got a couple if cars later though! Brought back memories seeing those ashtrays mounted high up on the front seat rears!

      Ah yes, the 60's, where it was expected the kids in the back seat needed an ash tray! I have never driven the 1800, but I can imagine that the engine would be a little perkier.

      @@inlandvillasspain lol! Yes, the 1800 had a detuned MGB engine. It was a fantastic comfortable car, with loads of room. The Hydrolastic gave a great ride too. Dad kept the car when he retired, then gave it to me when he was offered £30 trade in value against a new Fiesta Ghia! It had done 160k miles then, and I took it up to 270k in the next 8 years before the suspension gave out and it was scrapped. Solid and dependable, but not fantastic looks.

      @@michaelfoster5577 I loved my MGB, but the timing in my life was wrong to keep it. It's one of the few cars I regret selling, and nostalgia stops me buying another one. I know what you mean about looks on the 1800 - it wasn't exactly a looker, and the nickname of "landcrab" was maybe a little harsh, but it was a product of it's time. I know they are sought after now, and I am glad it gave you so much joy.

    It is so cute, the British approach to the famous "Farina" design, lots of chrome, leather seats and two-tone paint.The French approach to the Farina design by means of the famous 404 Peugeot was totally different, a much more rational Bauhaus approach, less chrome cloth covered seats. These two cars with a more or less similar shape were totally different underneath.

    The condition is truly amazing with Zero Rust. In the UK most of them went to the scrap yard within10 years of leaving the factory due to rot. If this was an RHD model it would be very collectible in UK

      Yep, 99% rust free, it's still an Austin, so it still has some rust lol. This was actually the video the seller sent to me when I was buying it (car was in Madrid, I live in Alicante). Drove her home all 350km, without issue. Since then she's had her brakes replaced, new exhaust in stainless (the old one was a bodged mix of all sorts!), and a few other minor repairs (water pump, dynamo, pipes etc). She still looks and drives well.

      Yep, makes it a bit more quirky. It was sold new here in Madrid, from a specialist garage. The only issue I have now, is parts from the UK are slower and cost more, due to that B word, creating import taxes!

    😍😍 Were Austin Cambridges also manufactured in España,or is this an English made import?

    • @inlandvillasspain
      @inlandvillasspain  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was an import. There was an exotic car shop in Madrid that specialised in British and other cars. So, this was sold new in 1966 from this specialist garage.

      @@inlandvillasspain oh,so during Francos rule,there were some foreign cars permitted to be sold in España?? I always assumed that no foreign manufactured cars were allowed to be sold in España during Franco's reign. That is why Seat made Fiat designed cars,Reenault,Citröen & Peugeot set up factories in España,as well as some other foreign designed/developed cars which were made in España,such as Land Rovers, & the large Dodge made by Balleiros in España.

      @@markhealey9409 from what I believe, yes. I have my information from a car genius here in Alicante, who gave me the history of the one garage in Madrid that sold foreign cars. I don't know if they had to pay a large amount of taxes on these "exotic" cars, which is why there only seemed to be the one garage, or, if they were bought with a special permission etc - I have tried to do some research myself, but, as you can imagine, the history is a little hard to find. The original plates are indeed from Madrid in 1966, which is the age of the car, so it was a fresh import. I have looked at others from around the same age, and they have the same door mirror fitted as mine, meaning that the garage most likely fitted them to comply with the Spanish regulations at the time.
