    This is the most precious canning video I have watched in a long time!! I love that that the husband and the wife both involved and make it pickled over and it's something that they love to do and they just compliment each other so well! Love it.

      @@Chrislovetv What was the name of crisping agent that you put in the jars? In Europe, we use horseradish greens and black currant leaves to make pickles crispy, but I could not find those in the US, and don't quite like soft veggies without them..

      @@Chrislovetv Thank you very much! I like to pickle everything, from cucs to cabbage to tomatoes to apples, and this knowledge what I can use to make things that needs to be crispy actually do CHROOM in my mouth, it is priceless to me! THANK YOU 💖

      @@HaHaInc glad we could help,mom has an additional tip,,,,1/8 teaspoonful of alum in a one quart jar .If jars are larger than a quart add more alum.1/8 ×2 or to youre liking.

    I’m loving your moms recipes. My grandpa was from Arkansas and I loved when my granny and grandpa were canning. Unfortunately I’ve lost many of their canning recipes. But I’ve found some of them by watching your mom. ❤️❤️

    We loved pickled okra in my family. My mom decided to make four jars and bought fresh okra from a roadside stand. Mom said the woman was so helpful and told her she would need this many okra for 4 jars. Mom went home and started the process, however it/they needed to be kept in the dark for 30 days. Mom was proud of her okra…and then one night she died! The okra wasn’t ready yet and had a few more weeks to go. My sister and I divided up those 4 jars and though of mom with every bite

      any kind of okra, secret for harvest,pick them when they are 3 to 4 inches in length for pickling.

    I appreciate the simple recipe. I know you can add whatever spices you like but I like to know more of the really necessary ingredients then I will choose what extra I might want. I don't like buying spices that I will only use once.

    I used this recipe, one of my granddaughters loves pickles. My wife’s and I were talking about pickling the coming crop. My granddaughters ask if we pickled any before. I grabbed a jar out of the cabinet and gave it to her. Later I found out she ate the whole jar, it was my last jar.

    Do you heat your jars before putting them into the water. I get scared of exploding jars. Lol

      No. put them in immediately after filling. They are warm enough. Never had one explode.

    How long will these stay on the shelf after water bathed. A lot of people say it only last a year on the shelf. I find that hard to believe that after one year they would be bad. My grandmother canned stuff that lasted 5 years or more.

      If using Dill seed from spice department,Anout 2 Tablespoons.
      A medium size Jalapeno just gives eough hot for taste

      That was all the okra I had. Plus a waste of fuel and water to do less. I use A butane burner in the garage. thanks for your question.

    How much dried dill do you put in each jar? The video of your mom puts in 4 TBL of salt. Is that regular salt? Your mom also puts only 1 TBL sugar. Your instructions show 1/2 cup canning salt , 1/4 cup sugar. Which measurement should I use. The video or your written recipe? Thank you very much for making this video. This will be my first time canning.

    Tell your Mom and Dad they are great! Lots of people posting are just so careful and specific for safety. My friends mom in Mississippi and my Grandmother who passed a long time ago can/canned. They don't follow the ball canning book they learned from family. We are learning from my friend mom and she has done this her whole life growing up.

    One quick question, I see that you use vinegar to water ratio at 1/2. Most recipes I have looked at go 1/1. So is the 50% vinegar just over kill to be on the safe side? As a cheap SOB I am always looking to save on ingredients. BTW, it was very cool to see the Oldsters doing their thing together. I'm almost 60 and this gives me hope!!!!! Thanx Friend

    Hiya! Just about ready to start my okra and have never added sugar before and this video convinced me to try it!
    But... Granny says to add
    4TB salt (1/4 cup)
    1TB sugar...
    The recipe below says 1/2 cup salt and 1/4 cup sugar...
    I'm going to do it the way SHE told me to in the video, because something tells me she knows what she's doing! 😉 And I don't know if you can get back to me before I'm already done... no worries! But I just wanted to point out the discrepancy...

      There is no discrepancy, just A different recipe. The sugar does not make it sweet, just cuts the sharp taste of the vinegar. I'm sure your Grannie's is A good one too!.

      It will usually last close to 1 week. If you notice dark spots/streaks on it, don't use.hope this helps

      At least two years after canning and sealed.
      After 2y they may start to turn soft.
      if you don't mind soft. ,3years at most.

      wow, that's never happened to us before.
      Did you use pints or quarts,while canning,if so did you adjust you're alum recipe.
      if your okra came out slimy,you probably didn't add enough alum.
      Did you keep the jars at room temperature inside a cubbard.

      Moms okra has never came out slimy,it should be crispy.

      yes you need to add alum,that's what makes the pickles crispy,alum is the key,do not use a pickle crisper,alum is what mom uses,hope this helps.

      2.cream of tarter
      3.arrow root powder
