I've heard people bad mouth Ruger but I've owned three, a MK III 22/45, a SR9 and a GP 100. They might not be the best looking guns in the world, but they flat out work, and they're American made.
Amen, brother! I've had a couple .22 pistols, superblackhawk. 44mag., four 10/.22s, security six .357, and a Gp100 3" .357. Nary a problem.

The SR line were gorgeous guns. I hate they got rid of them for those clunky ass American series
I’ve had 3. EC9s was my first carry and still have it to this day. It’s not my edc but I’ll carry it from time to time, have only had 1 malfunction over the course of 1k+ rounds. Second is my LCP Max, again no issues though I haven’t shot it much, probably got 500 rounds through it. Unfortunately I no longer own the 3rd. P89, probably the only gun I have ever regretted selling

I just picked the Max 9 up a few months ago and added it to my micro collection and let me tell u what a fantastic firearm it is. Its an awesome shooter and can't beat the price for such a great firearm. Thanks for a good honest video my friend.
The Max9 is almost identical to the ECS9 internally. Basically a double stack up-grade. Both are very reliable and affordable guns.

Love the hat, wish we had Whataburgers up here in Indiana! As for the gun, I got my buddy into one. He loved my Security 9, told him this was the upgrade to it. I wasn't wrong, it shoots great.

Solid gun, for sure! Especially when psa had them for 269! The tritium fiber optic front sight really makes it a great deal. I wish every carry gun came with night sights.

I have a Ruger Max 9 with a Ready Dot and a Smith & Wesson Shield Plus with a Holosun 407 K. The Ruger Max 9 is shooting more accurately than the Shield at this time. I say at this time because the difference may be because the Holosun is not zeroed in as accurately as it could be. I can shoot accurately enough with the Shield to use it as a carry gun or self defense gun. And I can use the shield at night. The Shield also seems to pick up the red dot quicker. The Ruger is more accurate and the manual safety works much better than the manual safety on the Shield. Eric, try use the Ready Dot on other pistols. I have had good results using it on my S&W 22 mag and S&W 5.7.

GF got one, awesome gun. I heard there were issues with earlier versions locking up but that it was fixed, I like the design alot.
Just scooped one up from psa for 200 beans with a hogue slip over grip. Great video
I really love my Max-9 and have made it my EDC which was an SR9c.
I put a Halosun 507k red dot on it and picked up extra mags.
Shoots great and is very manageable weight wise....currently shooting 124gr .
Only drawback is the pin removal for disassembly.

I own a Max 9 myself & it’s great gun for the price 😎 it started Jamming after shooting 600 bullets 🫡 gave it a nice deep clean & it works like new

I got the max 9 when it first came out. Mechanically it is an awesome gun. My only complaint is the finish on the slide rubs off and started to rust within the first 6 months. Got it cerikoted and is doing awesome.
Renaissance Wax is great stuff for a carry, if you want to protect it.

I bought one a few weeks ago. Was practicing dry for with it before I had a chance to take it to the range. Something got jammed in the firing pin channel and completely jammed up the firing pin. Couldn't get the back plate out of the slide to try to fix it. Had to send it back to the factory. Still waiting to get it back. Second Ruger pistol I've bought that broke in less than 1 mag the other being the LC9S that broke a sear spring after 4 rounds. To Ruger's credit they fixed it no problems and then I didn't have any other problems until I sold it several hundred rounds later but I'm still waiting for the Max 9 to come back
A centerfire gun should be able to be dry fired now and then, but not too much. Try to use a dummy round, which will "catch" the firing pin. But it should never get caught as Your did, and it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to get it back. At least, they should have informed you about the progress. Would it be so that they have a bunch of them doing this so they have to trace everything back to batches of steel for the slide and follow up if some was too soft or something, but still you should be updated and maybe having a replacement slide and have it sent back to you? Push on Ruger to get something to happen.
I had same issue with my Max-9. Slide locked back. The take down pin/spring broke. Sent back to Ruger, only took a week to repair and returned. Believe this is a known issue with this gun. Runs great now - love it. Still my EDC.

Looking good there boss........I gained me about 7 pounds of winter desserts insulation. It don't sound like much but every pound in front makes carry less comfy. My build is slim and muscular but when I gain it's all in my belly and inner thighs and I just look like a skinny pregnant man lol.......gonna have to hit the bench and start running again as the warm months come around. Bought one last year with holosun 407 to get into the reddot game. Shoots great and fits my hand perfect and does not kick. I had a Glock 43 and did not like it at all. I everyday carry a Glock 23. Shot my Ruger Max 9 last week at the range. I need more practice using a reddot on pistol but it does help with long range shots for me.
I'm looking for something that has more manageable recoil wonder how it compares to the hellcat

these are just a LC9s but with a double stack frame and revised slide....same great design and quality but updated like the LCP max

I prison pocket carry this little guy.. fits snuggly into its holster and can be quite satisfying if you walk a certain way.

The added benefit of prison pocket carry, is there is no need to practice draw for speed under stress. Just put your hand there to catch the biggest lump as you soil your pants! And point what you hope isn't a turd at the bad guy. ... although, it might be just as effective on the bad guy if he thinks there is about to be a turd inbound ...

Needs to be stainless steel, or a least, nitride coated. SW Shield Plus has both. I live in S. Florida. Sweat and saltwater will eat it, fast.

Very good review > I have and very happy with my Ruger Max 9. When talking about the Mag > tend to look at it as a Double/Single stack mag > Double on bottom & single at the top. Seems to be a VERY good design.

Ruger has some fine firearms as well sidearms. But I have found that Springfield sidearms as well as their firearms are more my liking. I own a few Rugers and can say they have been great firearms and still are. My Springfields are what I shoot more, carry, have setup in my home for home security. I have never been let down by their firearms or handguns. I take them out to practice shooting, they eat any and all ammo. The high end down to the really cheap. their firearms and sidearms just eat it up. When you know and aquire your target then point pull on your trigger the firearms always go bang, never have they felled. You take care of your firearms and sidearms by keeping them clean and oiled. They should be there for you when you have to call on them for your safety and the safety of your family as well. I just think SPRINGFIELD firearms and sidearms are some of the best out in the market today. I've never had a problem that their customers service department could not or would not go above and beyond to correct it. But then again this is just my account of an opinion. God Bless guys, oh and take a kid or two with you to the range. Remember they will be our next generation of first amendment fighters and it's heroes. They are and will be needed in the days to come guys you can count on it. So let's get them started now.

Yes its lefty friendly. You can use the slide release with your right index finger.
I was hoping you would do this. Thank you, i love this gun at the range. I mostley hate shooting small guns at the range ,but this is fun with the ready dot.
My Berretta Cheetah .380 holds 14 rounds & is bigger than the ruger max 9mm.
Any stove piping? When guns get smaller they tend to have more reliability issues & are particular in what ammo they like to feed.

Not a bad gun...carried one for 2 years, had a Swampfox Sentinel on it. Just never really got a great grip on it drawing from AIWB. Picked up a Glock 43x as my summer EDC and am much more happy and comfortable with it.

How many rounds did you run through in total? My Max 9 died at 600, and 5 days of carrying. Took it to the range, and it would not go bang. Firing pin was not making contact with the primer. Ruger did fix it, but I dunno.... I'm nervous to carry it again, to the point I'd rather carry my Walter PDP Compact 5", which is no small gun by any stretch of the imagination. I'm glad I didn't need to use my Max 9 for real during the New Years weekend, otherwise I'd be dead.
@Suiax, That stinks man! I was considering purchasing this pistol but not after your comments. I too am a Walther PPQ shooter. I guess I will skip this purchase. I really like the fiber optic red dot feature.
Hate to be that guy. But according to the Ruger Max 9 manual. This barrel is not designed to handle P+ and P++ ammo and Ruger advises against it. So using 147 and 124 grain ammo is at your own risk.

Only thing bad about any Ruger that has their basic finish is they rust so bad. I've own 3 different LCPs only one didn't rust was the one I duracoated. Owned a EC9S and the pro both rusted also.

@@rob6850 I coat them and still had to clean rust off on a daily basis. I've own Taurus and never had that problem. Guess living in South Louisiana. I had to sell mine it was just to much lol

I am also pretty sure that the ready dot is not adjustable. So pretty good shooting sir. Not to mention the pistol as a package looks great.

I'm guessing, since I didn’t hear it mentioned, the issue with the slide locking back because of problems the takedown mechanism have been resolved? I ask because even fairly recently people have mentioned it happening.
When he says to always test your carry ammunition, he’s not wrong! Adam Greentree smartly practiced with a 45 acp handgun before hiking into grizzly country and going bow hunting but he mistakenly never tested the hp ammo he was carrying. When a grizzly charged him He racked the slide but didn’t see that his gun jammed up with the hollow points. This is all on video and he’s pointing the gun at the bear thinking he had some self defense, anyway he never ended up shooting at it and didn’t realize the gun had jammed until watching the footage later on.

Its a decent shooter. The trigger was a little too loose for my liking. I swapped the trigger for a macarbo trigger. No more trigger shake and feels much better.

2:42 - 'Great trigger, very crisp trigger'. Not too sure what is meant by that, but the trigger on this model is very loose, and sloppy. Lots of othrr reviews have stated this, and when I got mine it was just as they said. Very loose, wiggled side-to-side a bit much, and felt cheap. Too much travel both from start to reset. A simple trigger replacement (Maxxis from Galloway Precision) made a world of a difference!
A 4.25 inch barrel offering would be great. And a rail system would be available. The barrel is too short for me to duty carry as a security guard.
Ruger just recently introduced a Max 9 with a 4-inch barrel. I'm not sure if the long-barrel version has a rail.

I have the TAURUS G3X/ SMITH WESSON SHIELD/ GLOCK 43X/ HAVE NOT OWNED THE RUGER MAX 9.??
Is that dot a propritary fotprint? If so I want none of it. I made the mistake of getting side charging AR and trying to get parts for it is a pain in the rear. The company is often out of stock everytime I attempt to purchase a new BCG for it.
