  • Bob McKeown deconstructs the interrogation and shocking confession of Russell Williams. From his initial denial to the full declaration of guilt, the fifth estate deciphers one of the most compelling and distressing confessions in Canadian criminal history with the help of people who know the art of interrogation better than anyone else. For many months, the fifth estate has been following the story of Russell Williams and now is able to piece it together from the early clues to the final confession.

That’s actually not true I heard in an interview by this gentleman that he had very little time to prepare at all
In a perfect world yes they would have all the information that was discussed in this documentary but it wasn’t the case in this circumstance

    • @dalfifran7572

Actually the interrogator had an interview about this.
No, he didn't plan for every eventuality, and no time to study Russ, they only have him as suspect for 2 days from tire impression. Infact, he's going in 50-50 about Russ as a suspect at the start of interview. Mind you, they don't have all the evidence yet at this point.
All they have is tire and footwear impression at mid interview, 2 set of circumstantial evidence which might be enough to convict him on Jessica, but they have nothing on other victims.
But as experienced interrogator, he knew how to respond and how to dig information based on how the other side act, then sort of going with the flow.
Your style of interrogation could change based on how the suspect, witness, or other person of interest react to you.
Of course as the interrogation goes on he became more and more suspicious, but it's only after Russ "freeze" reaction when shown footprint comparison he's 100% convinced he got the right guy.

He's not exactly commanding a unit on the front lines ffs and never has. Tons of assumption and embellishing on this show to make it more entertaining. Also there is no brilliant interrogation here this guy was just smart enough to know he was caught, that lawyering up wouldn't save him and that cooperating would save his wife a lot of hassle. This detective quite simply just won the suspect lottery is what happened. The personality and intelligence of the suspect has as much to do or more with the outcome of an interrogation as the skill of the detective does. I don't think that this detective fooled or cajoled or outsmarted Russell Williams into confessing. Williams knew the jig was up and made a conscious choice to go the easiest route for the sake of his wife.

It's horrendous to think someone like this man who was respected by so many people, can be so evil.
It wasn't just the fact he creeped into women's homes, it was the torture he inflicted on these terrified women before he killed them, it upsets me to think about that.
The evil cnt would then go to work at the base acting normal and watch people, including women, salute him as they passed.

I don't know if Shakespeare himself could come up with this gem.
Through this language, he lets Russ know he is trying to go to bat for Russ, but the sh"t pile just keeps getting deeper and deeper - and he needs the truth since "things are getting out of control quickly."

In reality, the detective knew since the moment Russel walked in, that his goal was to paint him into a corner that he couldn't talk his way out of.

It might be as bad as this man's bad deeds. But none of us are qualified to judge. At least we haven't been in school and certified for it. Main reason is none of us are perfect. If you're Christian you know what I am trying to say. The spirit in him is still out there as its been on this planet for thousands and thousands years and will be until the end of the world. We human allowed it to inter by our father and mother Adam and Eve. He needed help but he didn't seek help. He was fooled by that spirit whisper saying no one will find out. The spirit stole, killed, destroyed all he got and dumped him with others like him and out to find another person willing to be used by it. So, please let us pray for him. Be on his side. None of us are perfect. Especially if we stand before God. There are many things God knows about us. Our bad thoughts, bad words, and bad deeds he only knows
