@Acidburn9691No. Stevie asked for a seat because he didn’t want to wait. It was his time to go, sadly. He spoke of knowing that he’d been given a second chance at life, and that he was living on borrowed time. I’d spoken to him just 6 weeks before. He was such a beautiful soul here on Earth❤ sand and Angel now.

I saw him in Montreal on the night that the wah-wah pedal was either lost in transit or stolen (same day that SRV’s father died). "Voodoo Chile" is the slow blues on the first side of Electric Ladyland, with a young Steve Winwood on organ. The song covered here is called "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and is on side 4 of the album. Stevie Ray was 14 when the Hendrix album came out, and used to tune his guitar down a semi-tone like Hendrix so that he could learn Hendrix songs by playing along with the records. (Otherwise it's too difficult when open strings are used in the original). Like others have said, the video of "Texas Flood" at the El Mocambo (in Toronto) has something special about it.

    • @robertsuitsjr6117
      @robertsuitsjr6117 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

They recorded Voodoo Chile first and the next day Jimi came in with a totally different version, they put that on tape and decided to keep both but change the title to Voodoo Child (Slight Return), as in a second look. Gov't Mule has a great cover of Voodoo Chile on the Roseland Ballroom album with Jack Casady sitting in on bass like he did on the original version with Jimi.

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in concert with The Outlaws in the late '80s. It was really great to see him live. One thing that stood out to me was while in the middle of a guitar solo, he had a brief casual conversation with a stagehand. His ability to keep playing without missing a beat was just incredible. It was such a tragedy when he was killed.

Bassist, Tommy Shannon, put in some of his early years with Johnny Winters bands -- another fantastic guitarist from Texas like SRV. Chris Layton artistically beating the "skins and tins." Catch "Look at Little Sister" showcases a later personnel addition, keyboardist extraordinaire Reese Wynans.

Regarding the venue, "Austin City Limits" is a T.V. show recorded at an indoor concert theater in Austin, Texas (that's a faux background of Austin behind the musicians). Regarding Stevie, he was, to many of us, simply the greatest to ever pick up a guitar. This performance was in his third year of sobriety, free from cocaine and alcohol. Also, he was nearly as sweet and humble of a man as he was an incredible guitar player. Thanks for posting, you guys!

Stevie Ray is the king of cool...he had his own look. Every time I saw him play he looked so damn good!
I got to see him play as a teen at a yearly music fest they used to have in Austin (Austin Aqua Festival) and damn did I think he was the coolest guy Id ever seen! And his guitar! "Number One" 1959 Fender Stratocaster is a musical artifact! Its on display in the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin. He used the fattest strings he could because of the way he played them so hard.....if you didnt, watch his finger work, he bends those strings half way across the fret board.
SRV usually gets the credit for the band....Like Dimebag does for Pantera, but SRVs band is Friggin awesome. That bass player was jamming out on those lines, the drummer awesome. Keep listening, theyve an amazing keyboard player.
Austin City Limits....cant believe you havent heard of it, Ive met people from all over the world that grew up listening to it. Ive a friends from Japan and Thailand that both first heard him on ACL as a kid and from then on he wanted to move to Austin and play guitar....which they do.
Austin City Limits is a music venue and a show thats been on Public broadcast tv in Austin since the late 70s. Since its beginnings, TV networks around the world broadcast it Today, there are other music festivals, like the ACL fest where theres a week of big name performer from all over the world. Theres also a ACL film fest and some sort of media fest as well. It brings millions of people from all over every year.
Im from Austin and grew up watching Austin City Limits back when there were 4 TV stations, and it always had great performances.....it still does. There was an episode with Willie Nelson filmed on my Grandfathers ranch where he got to bring his favorite bull, Big Red on the set for background. He was so proud that he got to get Big Red and his giant read balls on TV.
I dont recall any metal on ACL, but its recognized as an important part of american music culture, and has been a big part of what used to make Austin a cool place to be....and music videos? Long before MTV, which it was eventually on.
Not sure if Dave will like much of the music, but I bet the lady would find things shed like. I credit ACL for one of the ways I was exposed to different music from a young age.
Cheers to the show....and the two of you.

Thank you for this beautiful reaction. I can’t wait to see more of your reactions to Stevie. I was blessed to have spent precious time with him, and I can tell you that he was as kind, gentle and humble as he was talented. I love “Tin Pan Alley” as well. There are so many amazing performances of this song. Which were you listening to? If you haven’t heard the version guest starring Johnny Copeland, check it out! FIRE.

Before he did this cover, Stevie asked permission from Jimmy Hendrix father! Jimmy’s father gave Stevie Ray Vaughan, jimmy’s effects box so Stevie could have jimmy’s guitar sound!

Hey, Ash & Dave. Thank you for reacting to this. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were my favorite group in the 1980s. Will keep my eye out for your Tin Pan Alley reaction.
First, loved Ash’s look of unabashed joy. Dave is harder to read, like me. I appear pissed-off most of the time. Think he enjoyed, though.
Ash mentioned the venue. That’s just a backdrop in a tv studio. Austin City Limits is a music show on Public Television here in the States. This was their second appearance, after they’d “cleaned up.”
You seemed amazed that Stevie could perform a passable cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune. Believe me, it was no trouble for him as he was a true master. There’s a video of him covering Jimi’s “Little Wing” as well. Jimi was a true innovator for his time and one of my favorites also, but many can cover him now. Btw, Stevie used to dress more like Jimi as well!
I’ll echo others’ sentiments: anything from their earlier show from the El Mocambo Lounge in Canada is a must watch. Also, Stevie’s brother, Jimmie (who gained fame with The Fabulous Thunderbirds), plays a song with Stevie called “Pipeline” on a video you should definitely check out.
I also love that Dave appreciates Marcus King. I know he’s also seen Billy Strings. If he wants to really check out a couple of “jam” bands that are really tight: give a gander to Tedeschi-Trucks Band, or Blackberry Smoke. Think you may appreciate them & the latter will be in Manchester this September 12. Cheers!

Her genuine facial expressions are exactly the reason we reaction video viewers are reaction video viewers. We so want others to bask in the glory of the music we grew up loving to our core. Lots of reactors are disingenuous but that tends to be obvious from the get go. Heartfelt reactions are what keeps us coming back for more. I can play guitar but all I ever wanted to do was sing. Singing in tune isn't hard but singing with emotion requires skills that I lack and it sucks.

One of SRV's most powerful & artful performances. Disappointed that this couple didn't seem to fully appreciate the tremendous power and DEEP soul that SRV and his trio conveyed throughout this piece.

Could you react to Eva Cassidy - Over the Rainbow. she was an incredible singer, most beautiful voice i've ever heard! She was a free spirit who missed out on getting signed to a major record label because they wanted her to stick to one genre but she didn't want her creativity to be restricted. So unfortunately she never became famous and successful while she was alive and she died at the age of 33 from cancer, but a record label discovered her music after she died and her music has since sold millions of copies world wide and she is respected among musicians as one of the greatest singers.

It was part of PBS, it was a regular venue that they would have on I think every month or so with different Acts.
I remember seeing that on TV man it was amazing

The first time I saw SRV was at the Rome Inn when I was living in Austin in the late 70s before he got famous. The next time was at Antones on Guadeloupe in Austin when he first started doing Hendrix. The next and last time was in Dallas in the late 80s when he was playing with Jeff Beck.

Stevie went to Jimi Hendrix father to ask permission to record this cover in person out of respect. His father was so impressed with Stevie that he gave him Jimi's WaWa pedal that he is using in this performance. The video of his performance of look at little sister on Austin City Limits with blow your mind.

Austin City Limits is the longest running music show on TV. I grew up in Austin, and whenever there were performances, they were broadcast live on PBS, and the family would sit to watch them...That was long before there was cable and we had 4 TV channels. They also replayed past episodes on the show.
The Austin City Limits show is an indoor venue...not a window in the place. The set behind the stage is a scene of Austin at Night. A few years back, they moved from the original location that was on The University of Texas campus to a new theater down town.
You mentioned it being an outside show....Well, for a decade? probably more, Austin has had the
ACL fest (Austin City Limits), which is a week long event that is outdoors and features one big name band after another
I used to go to such events, but Austin has managed to figure out how to charge hundreds of dollars to get in......MAYBE if SRV was playing, but Im not paying that much for the acts they have. Nothing wrong with the music, its just not something Id pay that much to see.
    Cheers Yall! Rock On!!!!

Don't have time to read through all the comments so i may be redundant. There's a small army of SRV devotees out there. (me being one of them) "Austin City Limits is a venue setup for TV broadcast. Voodoo "Child" or "Chile" refer to the same song. Best way to react to him is live videos vs. albums because you can better see his passion, showmanship and guitar skills. If looking for his own songs I'd start with "Life Without You" (Capitol Theater), "Couldn't Stand the Weather", (also Austin). If you like jazz "Riviera Paradise" ". "Texas Flood" (Macambo) is also excellent though it's a cover. Good reaction.

You should absolutely please react to another song by him from this same concert called "Leave my girl alone" it is a slow blues song originally done by Buddy Guy.. Stevies version of it is absolute fire 🔥. I promise you'll love it 😊❤
