    If you bought a RAV4 would it be the hybrid or standard gas version?

    I really like this review a lot. It's more realistic then the go off-road centric reviews we see all too often. I mean those are fun to but it's nice to see a review that addresses what over 90% of the people can relate to.

    We had the hybrid and I agree that it is the best version of the RAV4. The comfortable seats and relatively zippy acceleration made for a good experience.

    I have always enjoyed your work over on the KBB channel, to which I am also subscribed, but I did not know about your here on this channel, and it was just great--well done to you, Evie and your lovely daughter. Such a fun but still informative review, and the energy you two have together is off the charts positive. I look forward to more. The RAV4 Prime is a car I am considering but it just depends if the numbers crunch -- despite their gas tank issues, the dealers where I live (Scottsdale/Phoenix) usually sell every one they can get before they can get off the truck. I am also considering a Subaru Forester or Outback, as I love to kayak, canoe, hike and fish. I am a year out yet so I hope you can review a RAV4 Prime, also. Great work!!!

      We were tossing up between the Toyota Corolla or Mazda 3. Toyota didn’t budge on price whereas we got $3500 off a Mazda 3 and it will be built 2021. We ended up with a Mazda the price was better, style is better, drove better and more features. The only thing Toyota has an advantage is the hybrid.

    I love the rav4 hybrid xse especially 2 tone like white & black, its definitely the best looking trim but I really wish you could get the same options you can get in the limited, like cooled seats etc. Especially considering the price. Great review

      Yes cooled seats may be something to be missed in the XSE.....BUT do you really need seat memory, heated rear seats or foot activated rear hatch, I know I don't need those features. I much prefer the gloss black roof/rims then those useless features IMHO.

Finally got to test drive one and honestly wasn’t that impressed. The interior was shocking cramped and cheap-looking for the price point. We ended up getting a 2020 CR-V. On a side note do you thing it makes more since to buy a vehicle that gets great gas mileage and has pretty low maintenance costs or investing in an hybrid?

The CRV may not look as nice and has a similar bland interior, but at least you will not feel like your head will smack into the roof at any second. My only issue with this vehicle is the awd system. The rear wheels are only powered by a battery, however honda and ford use the gas engine for an actual mechanical link. It's been noted that if the battery drains to far on the rav you could possibly lose awd. That's not comforting.

    • @gieslebt
      @gieslebt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should not lose battery as long as the gas motor is still running. It will pull energy from the alternator if necessary to keep the battery from becoming fully empty.

    Drove one. Loved it. But seriously Toyota’s pricing was insane. Even if you buy a fairly high end version there are a ridiculous number of packages you want to buy. It’s like specing a BMW! By the time I was done I was in the mid 30s and the lease rates were some of the worst I’d seen. Not even close to competitive.

    • @bradybisgard
      @bradybisgard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ZCT808 it’s actually about the exact same pricing as Honda and Mazda

    • @ZCT808
      @ZCT808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bradybisgard No, not even close.
      Loaded Mazda CX-5 is $38K. Loaded Honda is $36K. The Rav4 loaded is $40K.
      But it isn't just the price disparity. When I leased my CX-5, loaded top of the line, I compared it to an identically priced CR-V at a dealership next door to the Mazda dealer. Price point was the same at the time, yet the Honda was $100 a month more.
      Not only is the Rav4 generally more expensive, it overly complicates things with an unnecessary number of 'packages' on top of the already excessive number of models. And at least at the dealer I test drove one at last week, their lease rates were horrible. Even on a mid range one with a few extras.
      So having literally just priced one, and shopping for a CX-5 replacement, I stand by my assertion that they have overly complicated the lineup, and it doesn't seem to lease competitively. But it is an excellent car. Just more than I am willing to spend on what is for me a secondary car I rarely use.

  • @ureviews
    @ureviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I test drove this car and I didn't like how my knee hits the door pull handle (and it's very hard plastic). Also when you step on the gas, the power comes a little unruly... What did you think?

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have any knee issues but different cars fit differently people...differently. That's why it's so wise to take a thorough test drive.
      Regarding power delivery. Again, it can be a perception issue. The same behavior can read as abrupt or powerful. From my perspective though, I thought the RAV4's power delivery was just fine.

    There is a new software update you have to request at Toyota to make the Rav4 stable in a high speed emergency lane change (Moose Test) . *Had to search a long way on Toyota's Website to discover this a huge 21st Century CON - Yes - a SELF CHARGING HYBRID, not a PLUG IN where you could charge at home and then cover up to 30/40 Miles on PURE ELECTRIC as other manufacturers are offering and more available in 2020. This option (PLUG IN) would mean for many users on a 10-15 Mile Commute each way would rarely need to buy Gas. In the UK Hybrids banned from sale after 2035.*

I know the hybrid is faster, smoother and gets better mpg but wondering how much it will cost to replace the battery pack since I keep my vehicles for a longer time... • @franman9731
      @franman9731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      First bit of advice.Don't even bother looking at getting one of these things.The roofline is so low your head will probably be hitting. I'm 6'1 and it was not comfortable at all. The vehicle just really feels closed in and tight. Check the specs. It's passenger volume is one of the smallest in the compact SUV segment. I was really amped up and excited when these were released over a year ago. With all the hype and crazy sales figures, I thought this was going to be my next vehicle. That was until I actually made it to my local dealer and checked one out in person. It was really a bummer and a letdown. Not to mention none of the trims come with a power passenger seat and the interior window controls,sunroof, locks, etc.. are not illuminated. The seats are fake leather (soft tex?)For a vehicle pushing in the high $30's, low $40k range, that is unacceptable. Toyota really cheaped out on things like that. Check out the competitors like Honda, Hyundai, and Subaru. I think you will find something more comfortable, along with a better value to boot.

These are the two most important questions for those who might want to boondock in their hybrid or electric vehicle, but I NEVER hear these two questions answered. I haven't bought one yet BUT I will be buying one. This issue is way overblown..... the MPG you get doesn't matter at all with how much fuel you can pump into the gas tank. If you get 400 miles on a tank and you put in 10 gallons..... well guess what.... that equals 40mpg. What is the problem or are you just too lazy to stop for fuel once a week or so.

    $38k? Isn't the Acura RDX $40k? This is way too much money for what it is. Toyota either needs to spruce up interiors or charge $6k less across the board.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comparing a top trim version of one vehicle to the base trim version of another is highly misleading. To equip an RDX comparably to the model Micah and family were driving would place the Acura's MSRP at over $48,000.

    • @fdderek

    1.9% financing and leasing are driving the costs of autos into the stratosphere. Buyers, don't care about out-the-door pricing anymore. Just monthly payments. Which brings us to the RAV4. I just lost my 10 year old Lexus HS250h and insurance paid me $11,000 for it. It ran rings around the new RAV4 hybrid which costs 4 times my residual. The RAV4 felt like junk next to my 10 year old Lexus (may it rest in peace). Exactly what am I getting for $40000?? There is no payback from hybrids because they cost much more to maintain and mine lost its efficiency pretty rapidly over time (I have no idea why). They do add additional power to the otherwise anemic engine. Where I live, its all about status, and the RAV4 sells well. But, lacking the need for status, I'd go with the Hyundai Tucson or CV-R (only if you like fuel mixing with your oil). Enjoying your reviews!
