  • Thank you for tuning in to today's video - UNDERPAINTING FOR BEGINNERS - This has become such a big trend recently, and although it seems like a lot of makeup, and a lot of time, I'm actually using less makeup than usual, it can be a really quick process, and the finished result is so soft and skin-like! Hope you enjoy and give it a try x

    I've been seeing the temple contour lately. I'm 57 and was always told that that was an area that showed aging because it tends to sink in there when we get older, so I've never thought about contouring there. It's so interesting how trends change. It really is.

    • @susanreid9857
      @susanreid9857 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes i agree . Wayne Goss said once that contouring on mature women can actually age us x

    • @Catania13
      @Catania13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @julie morris I light up the temple area, mine are very hollow, no need to recede them more. After all, people pay tons of money to have them filled because it's the first sign of aging.

    • @woboznz
      @woboznz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree. I've been putting highlight there to bring the slight sinking forward. Guess 20 somethings always want to look older then you get older and its the reverse

    • @PamperedWolf
      @PamperedWolf  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think it depends on the face shape. Obviously contour goes in different places depending on bone structure. If you find that your temples are a little sunken, definitely highlighter is better than contour to bring those areas forward, rather than push them back. xxx

    I’m going to give it a try. I’m 63 and never thought this would work for me. I love the softness of the look. Now that I am growing out my gray hair, I think this look would look soft and lovely. (Hopefully I can pull it off!) 😅

  • @eleonoradamone

    Hi Gemma. The only off-putting element of this technique for me is using only one brush for all the products, including the darkest ones (which would be bronzer or blush). Once you go and blend bronzer or blush, the brush is bound to have some darker residue on. So if you go back and blend some more around the face I'm afrad I'll spread bronzer/blush everywhere.

    • @BarbaraT.
      @BarbaraT. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have a point. But I guess you could give the brush tip a wipe and a swirl on a tissue or cloth, in order to get rid of the darker shade residue

    • @PamperedWolf

    This is where all those huda beauty concealers you bought trying to find the right shade come in useful. I've done something similar but without blending the foundation on top, just using a stick foundation or skin toned concealer for the gaps. It's actually a good technique for more mature skin as you're not using as many layers of makeup or powders, which can be more flattering on more mature skin.

    I remember when I was in my teens we used to draw a heart from the centre of our forehead down to under the chin with contour 2 lines of blush up each cheek from2 fingers from nose to temple 1 line each side where the cheek softens and highlight on top of the cheeks tip of nose and top of nose on forehead then blend, This reminds me of that to a certain extent. I have tried this before as I watch tictok occasionally and I know it works but it's also a good way to find out how you look with the natural look, but I'm to heavy handed to just go with natural so a good trick to know. I will do it again tomorrow but with deeper blush as like you I do like my blush, if you put highlighter on quite heavy handed that also shows through as a soft sheen and very flattering. Xx 😚 🤗 🥰

    Update - I’ve tried this 3 x now. It’s very easy and effective. The first time I put a little too much foundation on but I actually find this quicker than what I was doing. I used revolution bronzing cream (light mixed with medium was good for my skin tone) the first time then SOSU contour stick in Cool and the SOSU rose blush stick for blush and then the highlighter stick. The elf cream blush also worked well the first time. All the products I used blended really well. Hi Gemma always love your tutorials, this seems a lot like what the seint makeup girls do..have you tried seint? Just wondered what your opinion was on it...they colour match you too which I always seem to end up with the wrong colour even when I go instore xxx

    Well, I saw the title "Underpainting" and thought we were having an update on your building work!😜🤣 I may give this a go, but I am currently "glowing" enough if you catch my drift! I can't seem to get on with brush application and always go back to a sponge. Can you achieve this look with a sponge? X

    I tried this technique this morning. Loved it but needed more blusher as it can disappear under medium coverage foundation. Still, it was the first attempt. Looks more natural I thought

    I love this concept because I like the natural look without contour lines. I saw another utuber do this and I tried it. My best makeup day ever. Gemma is the Makeup by Mario bronzer better than Nars laguna cream bronzer? I was planning to buy Nars but that was such a smooth looking application. Thanks for this fabulous tutorial!

    Thank you for this! Needed it. Yes it's my long posts again. So much has been going on w/me & some family members. Lost my dad 2yrs ago, sister has leukemia & is only 2yrs older than me. Then the drama of my diseases. Lots of praying! Dior foundation is fabulous! I've had excellent results from it. Less is so much more for me as I'm aging definitely.. I've been practicing this & need to practice more w/my bronzer & contour sticks from Hourglass. The blush stick, too. It has been getting better. I've seen a tutorial on this technique i thought from you. Or maybe one of the other women you are friends with. I have started with dark circles now in just the last year with age under my eyes, but I've always had the bluish veins because of my skin in the eye area. Do I use 2 color correctors? And can they be mixed ontop of each other? Don't want my undereyes to get cakey & crease. The Pat McGrath concealer is still my fave with the powder as it goes on so light & easy w/a great finish. I'm going to be 50 on April 12th! Yay! Love my skin & owe that over 40 great skin to you. My skincare was pretty sound for a couple of decades, but it has peeked with your tutorials. Thank you! The nightly Tretinoin w/Azelaic Acid is a brilliant product! Been using this for almost 2 yrs it will be this early fall. Plus, my Current Body & NuFace devices are tops. They are paid off finally. Lol BeautyPie has been a wonderful subscribtion & I auto renew. I'll have to let you know how I get on w/more practice on this technique. Thank you in advance for any of the undereye advice. Be well. xx 🐺🐺🤗🫶🙏

      Hi Stacie,
      Happy Birthday in advance. Hope you're going to be doing something special to celebrate. I love a good colour corrector for under eye circles. You've been lucky only just starting to suffer with them now at almost 50. Mine are hereditary and I've had them ever since I can remember. Sending love your way xxx

  • @anab.6948
    @anab.6948 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the idea of blending everything in but I think you should try less foundation next time. The moment you put some foundation on your forehead almost all you contour got lost. I think the trick is to use only what is left on your brush when it comes to blending of contour and blush!

  • @alexaraine4205
    @alexaraine4205 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this. It was good to see how much bronzer and blush you actually have to put on underneath to get any effect at all. And like you I would probably add more blush! It's a good technique if you tend to be heavy handed with bronzer and blush cos you tone it down with foundation. Can it work with a tinted moisturiser rather than full foundation?.
