@@MuYe That would be kinda funny lmao. But nah, it's "just" a arduino sending CAN Bus Data to the cluster to match the ingame Data. I gain the knowledge by trial and error lol
mine is the best. i have a 3€ "Powerking" keyboard a 5€mouse which claims it is from logitec but it isnt. a pair of speakers that cost new 50 German Mark in 1987 a screen that i stole from a scrap yard (it is only a small one so they will forgive me) and a computer that i bought from a website that i thought was a scam untill it arrived. it cost me 100€ and it has a blue LED in it somewhere. it can run age of empires 2 on almost 25 FPS how is this a racing setup? i play Moorhuhn Kart 2 XXL on it. so it is a racing setup.
That's what I like about the G25 shifter vs the G27 shifter. Being able to switch between H pattern and sequential mode when I want to go back and play some classic arcade racers that didn't support H pattern.
My setup is a custom rig built from scratch by my huge game fan dad, and he started using it way back when I was like 3 years old(He nudged me to try at that time, which leads me to racing games). The whole thing is like a bunch of steel pipes and plates and wooden panels screwed together. The shifter is actually at the exact same place as a real car. Also I actually used this setup to simulate my license tests before I passed them.
the owner of the setup at 9:55 here, the knobs from left to right is a h pattern, a handbrake and a sequential shifter.(also the paddles dont hurt my foot but it will rust under sweat)
at 6:04 Muye mentions the wheel in this setup is a G27, if you take a closer look at the shiter you can see the defining factor between it being a G27 and a G25, the little white piece. It is a G25
Man, If I had a picture of my brother's old setup, I'd send for sure, we used a hecking plastic table from a pub, and the chair was also from a pub, good ol' memories
I wish I had one of mine it was all normal except for the gpu on the floor because there was not enough space in the case. i even kicked it once and broke the fan
mounting your wheel/shifter on the mouse pad actually dampens the vibration from your desk top a bit, making the loud logitec wheels a tiny bit quieter.
3:26 I can see a Arduino IDE Window on the left. So I guess thats probably what he is using. (Arduino takes USB input from PC then moves the gauge needle motors on the dashboard, probably)
"How do you gain the knowledge to wire them up" Repair manual and third party documentation. Or, if all else fails, a mix of previous experience and trial and error.
10:00 so the knobs explanation is that the one on the far right is a sequential shifter the one in the middle is handbrake and the one in the very left is a h-shifter
I have thrustmaster shifter, and actually, its not really comfortable when its too close to the wheel, especially on the 2 gear, so i think that should be a good reason why people put their shifter far away from wheel.
My rig setup An Rx7 seat on top of a pallet with custom mounts for ebrake and shifter. The steering wheel mounted onto a chair held down with some weights so it doesn't move. Hey it gets the job done and I get plenty seat time.
My setup is just a racing seat that slides in front of my TV and a Logitech G920 + H pattern shifter. It does the job unless I forget to move something behind the seat because when I brake the seat moves back
0:50 Thats a Hori Racing Wheel Apex. Steering range of 270°, vibrator, 2 pedals, no force feedback. Still semi drivable when getting used to it after 2 years of driving with it. I know this because I had one. Since this year I transitioned to a g29, in which the FFB works on playstation, but not PC. Does it's spinny on boot up, connects to Ghub, allows me to change spring strength. But FFB is too tiring..? (i already spent half a year breaking the thing, I doubt it'll work.)
Iam a die- hard keyboard player, I also never had the space a real good wheel and pedal setup. Now I have some inspiration and anything less than a frontcut of a real car with working EVERYTHING and an LED- Beamer in front of it wont cut it :) In all honesty If I had a hheel, pedals and shifter I would constantly worry about support for them in racing games. It can be a hassle to get the basic functions and forcefeedback right. A keyboard and mouse always works :)

You Dad sounds pretty kick ass
The reason for the shifter being so far away (I think) is so you can feel like your driving a truck thru Texas while hauling a load of guns
It's also much closer to real cars.
