    Excellent! Downloaded nRF Connect to my LG phone and set up 5 "locations." My two droids are having a great time as I'm discovering the different sounds and head movements. Can't wait to take one back to GE in WDW. Thanks so much for your expertise from an admitted novice!

    Hey - did anyone see that Disney released a new droid depot app to interact with your droids? From what I can tell - the possibilities are endless!

    • @VProFX
      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! It is pretty cool. The best part is controlling the droid from your phone allows for variable speed motor control, so controlling the BB series droids (with practice) is a whole lot easier. It has 3 modes... app version replacement of the remote, a dance mode that let's you select dance moves and have the droid dance to one of 3 songs, and a tic tax toe game you can play against your Droid.

      @@VProFX A couple things that intrigue me: The droid makes a noise when you connect *without* any lights illuminated. I always wondered if the sounds and/or lights could be triggered independently. The other thing is the Piloting function - I love the joystick control and how if you move the head while piloting with the joystick, the droid turns. However, my droid's sounds/lights are triggered every 10 seconds when piloting. That's one thing that I would like to see changed in future revisions. Overall, though - super cool app that proves that so much more is possible!

    Check for signals at and around Star Tours. My droid reacted in the gift shop of star tours (around the registers).

      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting, I'll check next time I go. But keep in mind that if anyone else has a droid on near by, your droid will react to it's signal.

      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I did get a chance to scan in The Star Trader (gift shop at the Star Tours exit) and no signals like the ones in GE ... but I did see like 8 Droid signals from other park guest's droids. So I'm guessing your droid reacted to someone else's droid in the shop.

    Vince, I've watched this video a several times now. I appreciate the work you and others have put into it. It compelled me to look into an Arduino. I'm using the Arduino UNO and have been stumbling through using the IDE and adding LEDs, OLEDs, and a few other things. I'm looking into the AdaFruit Feather nRF52832 and the AdaFruit FeatherWing OLED in hopes of setting up a beacon my granddaughter and I can have our droids respond to. I read through the comments and am hoping you are still planning on making a "nRF52 coding" video. You have an excellent teaching style and I found this video very well made. I really enjoyed the explanations. I am not a very creative person, but like to make things. • @VProFX
      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice! .. Ya I recently found the same thing .. but I did notice that the 0xFF in the 0x0A0405FFA601 (found near the Cantina) seems to be setup to tell the droids to only react once when they see it. I waited 6+ min and the droid didn't react a second time to the 0xFF beacons until the droid stops seeing that one broadcast.

    • @VProFX
      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, from what I can tell, it looks like cloning signals and creating advertising data with custom Manufacturer ID and Data is an Android only feature. "Bluetooth Low Energy Advertising (peripheral role)" is listed under the Android only feature section of the website. This could be a limitation of iOS imposed by Apple, not entirely sure.

    I was looking at my Droid and I'm looking for improvements. I'm thinking one of the LED inputs might be for blue tooth activity. Has anyone tried it yet? Also, the wheel on the side seem to be inhibiting proper pitch and yaw causing unecessary friction. A modification with a ball bearing and some better motors might make a huge difference if you add some more weight. I don't think the batteries are enough.

      You can use the nRF Connect App on Android ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.nordicsemi.android.mcp ) to emulate the beacon signals ... you can manually set it up without having to scan it. I show this step by step at 5:52 in the video, and I list the Manufacturer data for each beacon that you would input into the app with a map of the location it was found I the park at 12:35 in the video. Vince, question for you, does the “droid” signal change for a moment when 2 droids are talking? I ask, because the response from the second droid is almost immediate. Seems to me that something would have to change to prompt the immediate response.

    • @VProFX
      @VProFX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll do some more tests to verify, but from what I have found, the droids have a random timer for reacting to other droids ... once they see a droid signal, it could be random somewhere between instant and like 2-ish minutes. So it is a good chance you just had random times at that instant that made it look like a response. But it is and interesting thought, so now you've made me want to play with it a bit more to verify. 😁

    • @stevenayers6277
      @stevenayers6277 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I have witnessed on several tests is that the time is random as to when the conversation starts, but that once it does start, one ‘talks’ and when it finishes, the other ‘responds’ with in a few seconds. Then there will be a pause for some time, then another talk/respond will occur. In all my tests, the which ever droid is the ‘talker’ remains the ‘talker’ throughout the conversation.

      Currently only the Android version has the Clone and Custom Manufacturer Data for broadcast functions. Apple currently doesn't allow developers to have access to these Bluetooth Features for their own security reasons, so Nordic wasn't able to include this feature on iOS.

      @@VProFX Thank you Mr. Parker for taking the time to answer.
      After posting the question I noticed that it had been asked before; however, I was hoping the newer revision had included the option for iOS and I was missing it somehow...
      + Any update on the follow-up video(s)? I"ve never worked with either the Adafruit or Nordic stuff - doesn't look too hard; however, would like to see a master at work! Which would you suggest for a noob to start with? We have adopted 4 brand new droids this past month in the house that I'd love to have not only interacting with each other but also with the simulated environment of GE - WDW had so much shut down that I don't think we really had a the full experience..... the kiddos will be absolutely ecstatic to have their droids not only interacting with each other but also in their rooms, living room etc... I think the living room will be first order territory!

    Hey, so I play with my droid and these signals a lot. There is one in your video that is suspected to be the new rise of the resistance ride. Is this confirmed now? I can say that my droid with the blue chip reacts uniquely to that signal. He makes sounds and movements from that signal unlike anything else. Also, I have been able to get my droid to respond to signals cloned from other droids. At this time I only have a few signals. Do you know anywhere I can find more signal data on droids?

      I don't think it has been confirmed yet, I haven't been able to check myself. (I'm in California and Disneyland hasn't opened ROTR ride here yet). I plan on scanning the ride once it opens here in Disneyland Resort. Also, we have confirmed that the 3 byte in each of the beacon signals determines the sounds the droid plays when it sees that signal. So the signal for a 0x0A040402A601 would be totally different sounds then 0x0A040702A601 for example. If you want to see the list of all the signals I found so far, I list them in the video with a map at 12:35.

      Vince Parker oh yes, I have followed your video closely. One thing I’ve noticed is that my droid with the blue chip doesn’t appear to play sounds from the 04 group, like, ever. Only when I broadcast the 04 signal. Also of note, you can clone the droid signals and with personality chips they end in 01,02,03,05,06,07. But not 04. What does it all mean?!? I wonder if 04 is reserved for something special. I have linked to your video from reddit many times as I would love a community to contribute to understanding droid reactions. You know how people know what droids are saying in the movies? That! I want to figure that out, you know?

    Cool! Anyway to do this with an iPhone?

      Apple unfortunately from what I have seen, Apple (for security reasons) doesn't allow for custom Manufacturer IDs... when you use an apple device for BLE signals it will always have a Manufacturer ID of 0x004C (Apple) ... so you won't be able to simulate a Walt Disney ID of 0x0183

    Can it be used as a bluetooth speaker?

      No the Droids can't receive audio through bluetooth... but the DJ R3X droid that you can buy at Droid Depot can be used as a bluetooth speaker.
