I don't think it counts as caring for the caregiver when you take Jess along...I'm not saying that to be mean. I just think you need to protect the integrity of that time so that you and Hannah get the break that you need. I know that it's impossible sometimes due to different circumstances but it seems like it's happening more and more often. I worry about you getting back to that place where you were soooooo run down and exhausted. Great video though. God bless!!!

Val did a great job explaining a couple of different times in the video how this time was still intentional and worked for everyone, that Jessica understood the different dynamics for that visit, and how she and Hannah were glad that Jessica came along, so it sounds like they have everything handled exactly as they need to. 👍🏼

@amy3130 I understand why you are saying this. It’s definitely not the same kind of outing, but there is a lot to take into consideration when we decide to go, not to go, to include Jess, to not, etc. I’ll maybe work on a video to explain more about the various aspects that go into it.

@@DoStuffGoPlaces- I cannot imagine leaving a family member at home, dirty and in their pajamas, unable to bathe at home because of a busted hot water heater, to go to lunch and have a good time, just because something was already planned that could be accommodated to help a loved one while also enjoying their company and still keeping the planned outing that - because of its repetition - still offered a nice respite, one not filled with guilt or worry about the loved one left behind at home. I truly believe this is part of your (wise, experienced, normal) reasoning.

I absolutely love your videos and have a soft spot for your story. My mother and I are very close like you and Hannah are close. My father has been disabled with a brain injury since 1987. The older he gets the harder it is for my mom to take care of him. While there are many differences with caring for an autistic and blind family member, we totally understand the exhaustion from being a loving caregiver. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to tell your story. We are southerners (in Atlanta) and love your recipes, outings and your southern roots. I hope that I can share your videos with my mother to help her to let go at times with the right caregivers involved. I certainly do what i can but you are an inspiration. Thank you.

Hey, Val - I just found your other channel (love it!) and then noticed you had a channel you were developing focused on caregiver respite. Totally understand your point in today’s video and so happy you guys had a great day. Flexibility is a strong muscle in us caregivers and, in my view, a vital skill to cultivate so that when things change, it’s still possible to have a good time. I have worked on numerous strategies for trying to get breaks and it’s a work in progress. I don’t have much help, which is not for lack of trying and budgetary limitations; however, I know I have to be intentional if I am going to have breaks. I love the idea of this channel and look forward to learning from your ideas. Be well👍

What a great outing it turned out to be. I hope your water heater is back to normal operation, in no time. Jessica was very flexible with this unforeseen event. Whoo! Hoo!
I had to LOL when Hannah shared the restaurant employee story, regarding Jessica.
    She’s becoming a local celebrity! ☺️❤️

I love that y’all kept the part in the video where Val was so shocked that the lady at the restaurant made the remark about Jessica and checking the food. I thought she was about to drive back and throw some hands! 🤣

Great video Val. I’m so glad you recognize the importance of caring for the caregivers! It’s easy to lose yourself in that role. I love the strong woman, mother, daughter, and sister that you are!! You are a special lady and I enjoy watching you interact with Jess and Hannah so much! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!! Love from DeeAnn
