Cersei explains the Rains of Castamere Lannister song in that little story she told margery to threaten her. I didn't catch that the first time I saw it either.
Facts. Without getting into any spoilers, I wanna expand on this a bit for anyone who’s confused and happens to read this comment. Admittedly, it’s a bit confusing because the song is based on the historical fact but it gets a little tricky because the song poeticizes the official events. For example, the song is titled “The RAINS of Castemere” but the actual house was named House REYNE. But as Cersei said, it was a vicious slaughter. House Reyne dared to climb the ladder, and “The Rains of Castamere” is a song that warns of what happens when you try to rebelliously pass House Lannister’s spot on that ladder and the song poetically sugarcoats the immediate aftermath which was the destruction of House Reyne after their rebellion against Tywin Lannister. As Cersei mentioned to Margaery, just saying House Reyne is “gone” isn’t quite appropriate to the reality which was, as mentioned earlier, a truly vicious, cruel slaughter. Every man, woman, and child without the castle and to make it worse, Tywin left the bodies of House Reyne hanging up on the city walls for all to see for the length of the entire summer (keep in mind, GoT DOES NOT take place on Earth, seasons in GoT are entirely different to ours and the summer Tywin hung those bodies up was a considerably LONG summer if Cersei is to be trusted). This is how Tywin became basically solidified as one of the imposing and terrifying figures in Westeros. Dare to fuck with Tywin? Then you risk your entire house being put to the sword - root and stem. “And so he spoke, and so he spoke That lord of Castamere But now the rains weep o'er his hall With no one there to hear Yes, now the rains weep o'er his hall And not a soul to hear”
I honestly didn’t notice it and I’ve rewatched GOT twice with other relatives. I only noticed it after watching their reaction to episode 8 that’s when I paid attention to Cersei’s story and was like damn it was a massive hint to the viewers of what will occur. 😂
He also trapped House Reyne's women, children, and old people (anyone who wasn't fighting) in the mines underneath their castle. The Reyne host was defeated by that time, and retreating survivors also took refuge in the mines. Then Tywin had the mine entrances blocked and water diverted toward the castle. The mines flooded, and hundreds of people drowned. He also wiped out House Tarbeck. He's a brutal character with some great lines.
Well D&D wanted to adapt the books specifically for that moment. Probably the most shocking and brutal moment in all of literature. Your reaction was 120% warranted.
In case nobody said this yet: the musicians play "rains of castamere" which is a lannister song thats made several appearances in the show. Catlin knew the song instantly
that’s why catelyn needs some respect; Robb nor any of the north people noticed that a Lannister song was playing at a Northern wedding but catelyn did and she knew something was wrong. Rains of Castamere is really only played in South, not in the North.
This episode is a large part of the reason reaction channels exist. A bunch of people who had read the books and knew this was coming set up cameras on their friends and family for this episode, Live upon airing. These reactions posted to youtube represent a major wave in the phenomena of reaction channels. My reaction was to throw the book across the room into a pile of dirty laundry, where it lay for a month. I needed to wash some socks at that point. You guys did well. Stoic even. Steel yourselves, there are still a few Starks kicking about. And winter is coming...
This was actually my introduction to the show. I was on World Star, and they uploaded a compilation of reactions to this scene, but never showed any of the scene itself. So I went and watched the scene. Those 8 mins changed my life and I immediately started the series.

Cersei - "You're a musical girl, aren't you? I imagine you have a lovely voice." Margaery - "A better dancer, than a singer, I'm afraid." Cersei - "Ah, but you know the song, the Rains of Castamere?" Margaery - "Of course. They play it so often here at court." Cersei - "So you know the story of House Reyne of Castamere?" Margaery - "Not as well as you, I'm sure." Cersei - "House Reyne was a powerful family. Very wealthy. Second wealthiest in Westeros. Aren't the Tyrells the second wealthiest family in Westeros now? Of course, ambitious climbers don't want to stop on the second highest rung. If only you could take that final step. You'd see further than all the rest. You'd be alone with nothing but blue sky above you. So Lord Reyne built a castle, as grand as Casterly Rock. He gave his wife diamonds, larger than any my mother ever wore. And finally, one day, he rebelled against my father. Do you know where House Reyne is now?" Margaery- "Gone?" I think if you had remembered this conversation, you would have felt the same dread Catelyn did when the musicians started playing.

Ah, sweet summer children. All of your subs have been awaiting this episode. The music is 'The Rains of Castermere.' Frey was a man who did not accept insult for any reason--plus he had the backing of the Lannisters. Oaths--especially from a King--are supposed to have meaning. Robb did not honor what his mother negotiated for him.She tried to tell him, but he would not listen. Your reactions are priceless. In the words of Ramsey Bolton, 'If you think this has a happy ending, you have not been paying attention.'

Both times they talked about it they forgot to even mention poor Sansa. (I know she’s technically a Lannister after her wedding, but she didn’t even get an honorable mention 😂)
In Scottish history, there’s a real slaughter that book place when a clan was hosting their victims as guests. When you have invited people to share “bread and salt” at your table, it’s like an oath that even if they are your enemy, they are safe in your home. It wasn’t a wedding, but they had been given shelter for the night in the home where they were murdered in their sleep. Some escaped but froze to death in the snow. Red Wedding!
For those that didn't read the books, the Castameres were a house in the west lands that were sworn to house Lannister. Tywin's dad was a nice guy but a bit of a pushover, and the Castameres and one other house borrowed a lot of money from the Lannisters. Those two houses grew even wealthier and more powerful, and when it came time to pay their debts, they would talk Tywin's dad out of it. Tywin got fed up and damned up a river and drowned the Castamileres in their underground castle. In an earlier episode when Arya was Tywin's servant at Harrenhall, that's what Tywin was eluding to when he called his dad weak. I think World of Ice and Fire covers this Lannister backstory and other stuff like how the Lanisters tricked their way into lordship.

The actor who played Robb had to get on a plane after shooting this scene - his last scene - and said he boarded the plane “crying and smeared with blood” and that nobody seemed to notice.

In the episode before this one Cersei was talking to Margaery about "House Castamere." Her dad slaughtered them all and they made a song about them. The song that gave you a bad feeling was, "The Rains of Castamere."
The song the musicians played is The Rains of Castemere, it’s basically the Lannister theme song (they were singing it during Blackwater episode). Cat was shocked that they were playing the enemy’s song here in Frey’s hall.

On this happy occasion allow me to share Catelyns last thoughts from the book "Finally someone took the knife away from her. The tears burned like vinegar as they ran down her cheeks. Ten fierce ravens were raking her face with sharp talons and tearing off strips of flesh, leaving deep furrows that ran red with blood. She could taste it on her lips. It hurts so much, she thought. Our children, Ned, all our sweet babes. Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb . . . Robb . . . please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting . . . The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. ‘‘Mad,’’ someone said, ‘‘she’s lost her wits,’’ and someone else said, ‘‘Make an end,’’ and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she’d done with Jinglebell, and she thought, No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair. Then the steel was at her throat, and its bite was red and cold."
Rains of Castamere is a song about the Lannisters killing everyone in Castamere. When Caitlyn hears that song playing after the door is closed, she knows some Lannister murdery stuff is about to happen.

Remember guys, “The Lannisters send their regards”, the words Roose Bolton spoke before he stabbed Robb Stark in the heart and killed him. Wasn’t just Walder Frey. The Bolton’s and The Frey’s are equally at fault and both houses gotta die!
FINALLY, I've been waiting for this episode since the first episode reaction. This episode always hits deep, because House Stark is finished. All the OG players for the house are now gone 😢.
When you two were talking about how everyone was having a good time and what was everyone worrying about, i was like, “Wholly eff! Are you two in for a rude awakening.”
Yeah, I was walking around in shock just reading it in the book a few years before I even seen it in the series. It takes a week to even begin to get over it. 😢
In the books, Cat is resurrected by Baeric, passing his living ability onto her after she had been tossed into the river and floating for 3 days, found by Arya dream warging into Nymeria and finding her. Lady Stoneheart lives up to her name. She is the side of honor without mercy, is an absolute savage to those any and all associated with the Red Wedding. One of several fuck ups they made in book-to-show changes.
This is the episode we've all been waiting for you to see. And you're right, this is only season 3. There's plenty of rollercoaster left to ride lol. You need to watch the ending again, and listen to what Bolton said to Robb when he did it. It's important information to know.

Translation: "Hell nah, please!" 🤣
"We still don't know what Ricky could do" Hobbs be killing me sometimes. He really rooting for Rickon to be tapped in 🤣🤣
In the episode before this one Cersei was talking to Margaery about "House Castamere." Her dad slaughtered them all and they made a song about them. The song that gave you a bad feeling was, "The Rains of Castamere."
Cersi spoke of rains of castermere in ep 8 when talking to margery basically threatening her.
The silence after this episode always gets me. Lol
The song the musicians played is The Rains of Castemere, it’s basically the Lannister theme song (they were singing it during Blackwater episode). Cat was shocked that they were playing the enemy’s song here in Frey’s hall.
Talisa getting knifed in the belly is still one of the worst things I've seen on TV.
She was a real one 😭😭😭😭
She should have known her place or at least been prepared for the treachery that came. They knew what they were doing was dangerous.
@@John-ir4id I'm glad she's still alive in the books tho 😭😭
@@johns1625how did she live?
@@Billsbyabill716 technically she's not even in the books- Robb marries a different character, but that character is not present at the wedding.
@@John-ir4idShe absolutely couldn’t have. She‘s a foreigner and doesn’t know their ways. Plus she‘s wife to the king. HE should have known. All those people and you resort to putting blame on the pregnant woman with no experience or power. Do better.
On this happy occasion allow me to share Catelyns last thoughts from the book
"Finally someone took the knife away from her.
Man I remember my first time seeing this episode all those years ago, I threw my tv remote across the room lol
Rains of Castamere is a song about the Lannisters killing everyone in Castamere. When Caitlyn hears that song playing after the door is closed, she knows some Lannister murdery stuff is about to happen.
Awwwwwwww You guys are Men of Winter ❄️ now WELCOME ❄️ Now enjoy the roller coaster 🎢 aftermath 💙
Lolol you guys had me cracking up. The fact that you guys thought it was going to be fine lol. This is Game of Thrones . They break your heart all the time. I'm enjoying rewatching the show with you guys.
Love your channel guys....so genuine and funny af to watch you guys react to this show.
37:14 "everybody's happy" 😂😂😂 I love how you guys don't see this coming at all
We're here Boys and Girls. Now the show really begins...
HAHAH 50:18 I thought the same when I watched it the first time, didn't expected it
Catlyn comes back from the dead in the books and is op af.
Lady Stoneheart>>>>>>
Y’all gotta remember Gilly probably can’t read.. that’s why she calls them scribbles.
She looks at them and just sees lines in a certain order, she doesn’t know the letters
" I've had enough" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Been waiting for this and you two did not disappoint. Felt the same first time viewing.
It’s here!! What we’ve all been Waiting for 😃🔥
It feels like the end of the Starks until you remember that Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon and Jon Snow are still out there. And THE NORTH REMEMBERS!
If there's no other comment that says it, this is THE episode that started reaction channels. People who read the book recorded their friends reactions knowing what was coming, and boom, reaction videos were born.
Reaction videos have been around for way longer but go ahead.
@MrNinja543 this episode is what made it popular on TH-cam
"The Lannister's send their regards". That one hit me hard (at the time).
I have been WAITING for this ep reaction since like season 2 and it was worth it!
I've been waiting so hard for this particular reaction! Great reaction guys😊
Best reaction ever! So many tap out at this part keep soldiering on you guys rock!!
“Summer Children” you are never more. 🎉
Oh shit… been waiting for this one just like everyone else lol. Here we go! 😂😭😭
I been updating TH-cam all day for this one! Congrats to making it to winter!❤
We all been waiting for this but trust there are many more things to wait for!
so funny how he said arya has gone everywhere and hasn’t seen NOBODY 😭😭😭😭 they don’t even know how accurate that sentence was
Yeah, I was walking around in shock just reading it in the book a few years before I even seen it in the series. It takes a week to even begin to get over it. 😢
Jorah's facial expression is because Dany's first concern is Daario Naharis
In the books, Cat is resurrected by Baeric, passing his living ability onto her after she had been tossed into the river and floating for 3 days, found by Arya dream warging into Nymeria and finding her. Lady Stoneheart lives up to her name. She is the side of honor without mercy, is an absolute savage to those any and all associated with the Red Wedding. One of several fuck ups they made in book-to-show changes.
Most traumatic episode ever to exist and y’all still had me cracking up. Great reaction.
I’ve been smashing through all of these and I’ve been patiently waiting for this episode. Keep up the great work guys! Love it!!
This is the episode we've all been waiting for you to see. And you're right, this is only season 3. There's plenty of rollercoaster left to ride lol. You need to watch the ending again, and listen to what Bolton said to Robb when he did it. It's important information to know.
All I ever wanted is this reaction ! I’m at work right now, imma save it for when I get home.
ur officially no more summer children, welcome to winter.
I love seeing peoples reactions to the end of this episode😮. We all felt it.
Alright fellas, welcome to the club. You’re officially one of the gang now. May the Red Wedding haunt you the rest of your days like it does with us!😂
Man it really been dope watching you brothas react to this show 🙏🏽 keep it up
As soon as they started playing the song it was over.
I’ve been waiting for them to get to this episode.
The Reynes of Castamere
"And who are you?" The proud Lord said
"That I must bow so low"
Only a cat of a different coat
That's all the truth I know
In a coat of gold or a coat of red
A lion still has claws
Mine are long and sharp, my lord
As long and sharp as yours
And so he spoke, and so he spoke
That Lord of Castamere
But now the rains weep o'er his hall
And not a soul to hear
"And who are you?" The proud Lord said
"That I must bow so low"
Only a cat of a different coat
That's all the truth I know
And so he spoke, and so he spoke
That Lord of Castamere
But now the rains weep o'er his hall
And not a soul to hear
And so he spoke, and so he spoke
That Lord of Castamere
But now the rains weep o'er his hall
And not a soul to hear
and so he spoke
(That Lord of Castamere) Lord of Castamere
(But now the rains) weep o'er his hall
(And not a soul to hear)
And not a soul to hear
Can't believe yall finally hit this episode. This is quickly becoming my #1 reaction channel on YT
dang y'all I actually was anticipating this episode but even after watching The Red Wedding for like the 80th time, it still never gets old how devastating it is for first time viewers. After this particular episode, I definitely need to hop over to Hobb's other channel and get a South Park refresher hahah I'm so excited for y'all to keep going and I can't wait to get paid tomorrow so I can finally subscribe to the Patreon
50:38 she's been everywhere and seen nobody is such a good line
oh, it ain't over. your heartache ain't over
"The horses always get it first"
😂😂😂😂😂 So sad, but true 😢
When I tell you I’ve been waaiitting for this one
The Red Wedding was based on a couple of real life events from Scottish history.
welcome to winter, summer children. we've been waiting.
dude in blue is dressed like a septa. That's crazy
I have been waiting for this! It’s all the Starks! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 have , John , Sansa, Ari, Bran , Rikon only one stark child is dead but both parents are dead. It is crazy but it is worth watching. Love your reactions and I cannot wait for the next one !
And now your watch begins. You are no longer sweet summer children.
Fun fact.. dude playing the drum at the red wedding is the drummer from Coldplay..
Devin when Rickon and Bran split up: "dang it bro! This season sucks bro!"
Me: oh.... It gets worse.... Give it about 10 mins.... 😬🤷
The worst fucking wedding EVER!!!!
Cat’s scream at the end reminded me of Florida Evans when she got that telegram that James died. She throw that bowl in the kitchen and yelled, “DAMN DAMN DAMN”
Awesome reactions to an awesome episode! can't wait till you guys get up to the more hype episodes in later seasons.
Been waiting for this since yall started
