  • In this next route learning video we take a journey south along the Great Eastern Main Line from Ipswich to London Liverpool Street on a non-stop express service. The traction for this journey is an Anglia Railways Class 86 with a rake of Mk2 coaches and a Mk2 DBSO on the rear.

    you're right about Stoke tunnel ... this from Wikipedia...
    The only railway tunnel on the Great Eastern Main Line is just to the south of the current Ipswich railway station. The 361-yard (330 m) long tunnel was built by Peter Bruff as part of the Ipswich to Ely Line. It was completed in 1846 and it is thought to be the earliest driven on a sharp continuous curve. During the excavation of the tunnel many important fossils were uncovered, including rhinoceros, lion, and, mammoth; the site was known as the 'Stoke Bone Beds'. The finds are considered important in understanding climate change during the Ice Age. This tunnel had the trackbed lowered so the line could accommodate higher container trains.
    The tunnel has earned itself the reputation "the wettest tunnel in Britain" as a natural spring still runs through the tunnel, so the walls carry running water most of the time
    I remember it well ... thanks for the video.

    Great video as always! It is great to see this route on high graphics settings and smooth fps. Hard to believe your PC has issues too. I can't wait another year for DTG to switch to UE4 which is long overdue!
    As for all of your requests, I find it happens with all youtubers that people get frustrated when they don't get their requests sooner. I realize how much goes into making such long videos that you make, as well you have to learn the entire route and the workings of the locos which is a huge undertaking by itself. Plus you have university! I myself am in university and can barely handle a full load. How you do both is quite remarkable! You're doing a great job and I hope you continue to do so for a while.

      +Joel Stevens Thanks for the comment! Indeed, the TS game engine is badly optimised, hence the performance issues. I'm very much looking forward to the next generation train simulator too!
      I think you're right on that. I feel sometimes that people think this is all I do and it's a quick and easy job to make a video. Each video you see represents at least 4-6 hours of work, with many taking up to twice as long to produce. Balancing this now with uni and a part time job is a challenge so I'm making as many videos as I can. I'm trying to do a minimum one a week, with the ideal being 2-3 a week :)

    I am definitely looking forward to your RLV's on the American Amtrak scenarios. I like playing those routes and the amount of signal knowledge you need, and there are segments of those routes with inexplicable speed changes and "How-the-f-would-I-know-to-slow-down-there-without-the-HUD?" moments.

    So glad to see this loco being covered, and in a good drive too. The 86/87 are probably my favourite locos to drive in the game, partly because they're so rewarding to drive and the other part being they've got such a great noise!
    What the slight drawbacks are I find about the 86 In this game are firstly the whole thing about it not being able to achieve more than 94mph despite having a top speed of 110...the next part is that compared to the Over Shap 87, the power delivers quite fast which Is slightly less realistic. Also like you said, the same goes for the train/loco brake, they seem to apply quite fast compared to the gradual bleed of the Over Shap 87 variant.
    Another nitpick I have is with the AP soundpack, while the sounds are good I feel on the older variants they could add the AWS horn that goes off with cautionary aspects that I've heard in cab rides, another thing is that they could possibly add new features like a cab light for the 86, the brake overcharge plunger and a driver to guard call.
    Two last things to this extensive text (apologies, I really like this machine) were the 86s also built at Newton-le-Willows?
    Also a method I've seen 86 drivers use in cab rides is that when they stop at a station they release the train brake, apply the loco brake on full, set the handle to off and then switch the reverser to off in that order, and when they start off on a line with a high starting speed they run up the power and set the handle to hold when the needles just nearly at the top of the yellow.

I Run down the settings and the needle was at zero but I couldn't get the train to move again after that even after moving the handle back to the 'Hold' position and taping 'A'. I even pressed the 'Fault Reset' button but still the Class 86 wouldn't move.

    When a friend of mine mentioned a train simulator in a casual chat about games, I pretty much started laughing. And then I came here. This looks so fun! I'm sure your professional commentary plays a role, too. What kind of PC do you need to be able to enjoy this game on the highest (or almost) settings lag-free ?

      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +davidtsw Haha! Well I'm glad you found some enjoyment out of this video and are now considering playing the game in the future. It's great! Though I would warn anyone that you need an interest in trains or the simulation genre to get the most enjoyment out of this. This video was recorded on my new PC, and the specs are:
      Intel Core i7 4790k 4ghz processor
      16gb Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 1833mhz RAM
      Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 4gb graphics card

    Hey PTGRail. Just a couple of corrections:
    Class 86s top speed is actually 110mph, I remember being told this when learning the units.
    You mentioned that you must wait for the notches to run-down if out in run-down or off. Actually you must never move the handle to off when under power, as this will cause a fault.
    Just so you don't think you're going mad, that signal at Liverpool Street DID actually change to a double yellow and then back to a single. Quite a spooky bug if you ask me. Makes me feel like I'm not alone in the simulator...

    • @gregster295
      @gregster295 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joe The Fish On TS2016, won't reach 100mph (unless a patch off UKTS is installed). Also, Class 86 has a top speed of either 100 or 110. 75 for 86/6's ;)

    • @-Joethefish-
