Is it okay to cover your circuit breaker box?

Sometimes your circuit breaker box is in an unfortunate place, and many people cover them with nice decor. Here is my solution...but does this break electrical code? Well, kinda. Watch for more details!

Hey when you were installing the shiplap, did you put it over the drywall and if so, how did the electric panel cover still fit over without being obstructed by the shiplap?

Our inspector hunted for the breaker box before discovering a fake decorative panel covered it. We were told he's a tough inspector, but he approved.

I was told when I had my house was inspected that my fuse box needed to be covered because where my box is it’s technically considered a bathroom so it has to be protected from any water. I’ve been trying to think of something to put on the wall to cover it for awhile now and this gives me a few good ideas… Thanks.

relocate it...someone must've added a bathroom or it was built a long time ago. Either way a problem on your end.

Cool idea, but they highly advise you to turn power off when opening that panel cover and exposing the bare wire terminals.

What is the metal piece you paint and where did you get it?

It's some sheet metal left over from an auto body project, but you can purchase smaller sheets of metal at Home Depot or Lowes.

Just take a small magnet with you when you go to purchase it, to make sure it's magnetic.

You're not supposed to put magnets around your electrical box either

This does not meet code as the door is intrudes into the required clear space. It does look better, but paint would be preferred.
