I think part of the reason Thor was so willing to work alongside others is because he does it fairly often in Asgard. There he battles alongside other honorable warriors, so the warriors of Midgard aren't all that different, even if he does view them as weaker. Warriors stand up to defend their home and he respects that

    • @draketheduelist

Particularly Captain America. Like that time where Cap recently thawed out and started attacking everyone until he realized where and when he was. "He will not listen. He is a warrior." Thor knew less about this mysterious glacier-man than even public schoolchildren, and yet he could tell from even the briefest engagement that Cap doesn't give up. And while this was more intended as a Cap moment, I like that _Thor_ was the one to recognize a fellow warrior, someone wholly unlike the rest of the STEM-powered civilians that made up the founding Avengers.
Come to think of it, both are stalwart warriors, legends of their culture, defenders of their homelands, fighting by throwing nearly indestructible weapons made of space metal that always return to sender, and yet both are relics of different eras displaced in the present. It amazes me that more writers don't really dig into those parallels, instead going for the Past Man vs Future Man thing with Iron Man for the thousandth time.

    Well done.
Season 2 had the explicit goal of showing that Thor was a much heavier hitter, because the showrunners recognised that he was a little weaker than he should. Alas, this means he can show up less...
I do appreciate that Thor is always shown to be the one to willingly take it on the chin. HisThrowing back the shot from Kang;s Flagship is a major highlight of the show for me.
However, my absolute favourite moment of his is when he defeats absorbing man in gamma world.

I am all in favor for Thor showing up less in the Avengers, for the same reason I am in favor of Doom showing up less as the villain in marvel comics in general. Over appearance in random "everyday" occurences lessens these types that are so off the chart/above the other character's average of characters, people whose direct involvement should mean something.
You know shit is going down when Thor has to show up, and even then the win still feels uncertain and unclear... Unless, of course, he has been there the whole time, and you saw him struggle just like the rest of the team so that the plot can happen regardless if they're fighting an alien armada, a nazi with facial disfigurement, or dealing with a gang of bike thieves who are all young human delinquents.

Besides the points you mention, another aspect of EMH Thor I really like is his relationship with Jane Foster. Glad the creators went with the paramedic version of Jane rather than her being Astrophysicist like in the MCU, since it creates a contrast between the couple: While Thor is a warrior who always solve problems by punching the bad guys, Jane is a paramedic, seeking to help and heal people. Makes sense that she would be the one to connect Thor to humanity and play a role in his growth from arrogant warrior to a humble hero.
Too bad this series couldn't show more of their relationship moving forward. It would be very cool if there was an episode where Thor and Jane, somehow, switch roles, with her becoming the Mighty Thor (allowing her to experiece what is like to be a warrior) while Thor becomes Doctor Donald Blake (allowing him to experience the life a of doctor and deal with the responsability of taking care of his patients).

That note about how Thor usually just shows up to get his butt kicked by villains in fights, same issue with Superman in Justice League.
Really just one of those cases where "This dude is a God so he should basically be unbeatable. But if he's too OP then other characters can't get a chance to shine and there'd be no conflict."
They overcompensate heavily and knock the powerhouses down in effectiveness to give the win to others. They're still great characters, but their mishandling in fight scenes diminishes their overall depiction.

Just because Thor gets hit alot doesn't mean he's weak. Much like Superman he takes the hits that no one else can take.
It's done to show scale. If something can hurt Thor than the audience takes it more seriously.
Something to note through is that Thor is constantly holding back. He is more "cosmic" in scale so he'd likely be more at home fighting cosmic entities.
The show didn't get around to these highter end villians or adversaries like Galactus or Silver Surfer but they would be a better measuring stick of what Thor can do

Able to hold his own against Graviton by himself.
    Defeated multiple frost giants.
Fought one on one with Hulk and didn't even break a sweat.
Was only really bested in Gamma World by a literal army of gamma powered mutants, and the Absorbing Man absorbing Mjolnir's essence.
Fought against the Masters of Evil by himself for a good amount of time, which included two other Asgardians.
    Destroyed a black hole.
Straight up deflecting a city destroying laser cannon from a hyper advanced time traveling space ship.
Actually managing to fight against Loki despite Loki having access to the Odin Force.
Fighting a mini army of fire demons.
Pulled 'Thor Arrives in Wakanda" in DC against the Skrull and was far more successful.
Managed to actually kill Ultron the second time around despite Ultron being made of Adamantium, albeit with Vision's help.
    Kicking Red Hulk's ass.
Defeated the ENTIRE Kree army, and walking up to the Supreme Intelligence and saying it was found wanting.
And being able to actually hurt GALACTUS.

And you can't say something like Hulk's pants start a testing because he's been wearing those since he first showed up in the show and it didn't bother anybody

another thing I love about this version of thor is the mythological aspect of his character
media like the ultimates comics or the MCU feel almost ashamed of Thor's roots in mythology, like they're embarrassed of what the character is and so always try to say "no he isn't mythological he's a powered up environmentalist" or "no he's not mythological he's just an alien" EMH on the other hand is shameless of that fact and embraces the mythological part of his character,
like yeah its silly but must super hero comics were goofy back then and that's partially what made them fun

This version of Thor sold me on the character, before the MCU. previously I thought Thor was the LAMEST character. Wasserman’s take on the character is, much like Bloom’s Captain America, my favorite performance as the character. Again, despite the GRAND nature of how he speaks at no point does it feel like he’s ACTING. It feels so natural, to the point I could listen to his Thor do a long winded monologue and not be tired of it. Even in Marvel vs Capcom 3 he has a taunt where he can do basically a whole monologue. This Thor feels as grand as he speaks, and that’s what it comes down to. Does he walk the walk as grand as he talks the talk? This show was the first, and for me, best one to do so.

I disagree that Thor was to weak in this series. He was consistently the strongest member of the team. He was more often then not the last one standing and he whenever he finally showed up it was always a 'the cavalry has arrived moment.' I mean he single handedly defeated the Skrull military, he single handedly defeated the Kree military, he was the last guy left during Gamma world, and he brought Galactus to his knees.
