I have this episode of Jazz Casual on DVD along with Dizzy Gillespie and Mongo Santamaria, the process of music rehearsals that they put themselves through in order to nail it on one take is incredible, love you John Coltrane your music lives forever 🎶
From 26:31, a phrasing idea he uses on a studio recording of Impressions (that was transcribed for the Sax quintet with Garzone, Brecker, Leibman and Redman).
Thank you so much for colorizing this! I love watching videos of Trane playing (it's a shame there are so few), and combined with the colorization, they look so alive! I wish we could still see them in real life, but this is absolutely incredible and as close as we can get!

When Gleason introduced the next song, Alabama that Coltrane recently wrote, he should have said why it was written. My thoughts Mr Gleason, if you gonna swing daddy, swing with the truth.
Our Music Committee at UW/Madison brought Coltrane in with his wife Alice, piano, Ollie, sx, Garrison, bs and Elvin Jones, dms this group is more musical and more enjoyable. Thanx Much!
Wish I could see it live but this is great quality! Thank you 🌹. John Coltrane is my favourite Jazz saxophonist💓 however watching all of them is such a delight. The musicality! The brilliance 🌟
Had a neighbor who saw them live and another who actually played with them in Philly (!) Both are gone now and they didn't elaborate much, but they did express a deep respect and admiration for the musicians and their art
Great result ! Deoldify works very well on this footage given there is no sudden luma changes and no overall deep darks/greys . Good lighting for this show that is ! what kind of video capture source here ? These 3 tracks were on my mp3 as soon as TH-cam allowed 10 minutes chunks , nearly15 years ago now (tempus fugit...sigh) .
Takes time to develop your ear and find the enjoyment, if you haven’t been listening to musically complex music your whole life. Sorry it isn’t taylor swift or any other shitty pop music.
McCoy Tyner the best jazz pianist of all time
Thelonious Monk is WAY better..

Amazing chance to see the Classic quartet perform. Thank you.
20:30 is just the rawest...purest and deepest form of playing an instrument as an extension of your own body, mind and soul. He became the contrabass.
The type of heart Jimmy Garrison had was truly astonishing! He put his heart and soul into that double bass!
Forever Jimmy Garrison!

The John Coltrane Quartet is the greatest bang for your buck in history. Every player is overqualified.
It's like a journey to a better present day.
this rips so hard, some real jazz right here

Oftentimes the colorization bothers me. But for this it works. Happy birthday, Trane

5.56 onwards for example. Coltrane playing . that's why I ve loved this era of music for almost 30 years. complete soulful expression.
It’s crazy how they wore suits and played so passionately under these bright studio lights sheesh, too hot 🥵
Gotta luv it John Coltrane in color wow !! 😎
At 26:08, you can see the veins popping out of Coltrane’s neck! That tenor saxophone is a crazy instrument 😫

great. how i would have loved the sound quality to be better. superb musicianship, every one of them
27:03 omg the lick
When I was younger I thought part of Coletrane's genius was that his technique and phrasings were favorably "accidental." How wrong was I...
5:00 Ralph witnesses the Magic of John Coltrane Quartet !

Wish I lived in that time and experienced it live...
Is there anyone who has seen them live and can share their experience, please?
