Definitely geniuses of the twentieth century. Never nearly as famous as they should have been. Work Song is top 1% in my opinion. Nat and Julian Adderley are gifts to the universe.

Cannonball is just absolute perfection. The rhythmic feel of his lines and his tone were the absolute pinnacle of bebop IMHO. His bands were always unbelievably swinging as well (along with his brother of course).

Cleber, thank you so much for this!!! Because of the vast amount of great stuff on TH-cam,and the general effects on one's attention span in today's world,I rarely watch anything of this length anymore. But this program was completely arresting in it's intelligent and compelling presentation,by the band, the host, the warmth and simplicity of the set(having grown up with mostly black and white tv,I found this visually comforting)and last but certainly not least, the brilliance of Mr.Adderley.We must treasure this program, for we're not likely to see too many musical presentations on today's tv as unassuming yet deeply satisfying as this one. Thanks again!

Adderley's education background comes through strong in the concision of his remarks. Grateful to be learning from him almost 60 years later.

You love a musician or a group
and sort of forget for a long time.
Then you find you way back somehow
and it's like opening up something brand new.

To my Uncle Sam “Homes” Jones who was the “bottom” for this great band for many years… during my adolescent years I didn’t know he played with all the greats… it was only until the Lord called him to his rest in 1981 that I found out what he actually did… Again, all of these guys are swinging together in Heaven playing praises to The Father on high 🙏🏽

Known for his "bounce" over the rhythm section, he's (Cannonball) also a little underrated. He pushed sax players further with his blues drenched playing. How about stylistically? Many have followed his blueprint, but never matching his utterly soulful sound.

George Koonce Cannon was born in Tampa and he and Nate grew up in Tallahassee. Cannon moved to Ft. Lauderdale after graduating college to be a high school band teacher. I just read his biography called Walk Tall. The Adderley's were great musicians and seemed like genuinely good folks.
