      This is a cool trailer for low clearance vehicles like carts or Harleys or even a gun safe on dollies, but keep in mind that drop deck machine trailers are usually hydraulic and often have no suspension other than the tires. I would hate to think what could happen moving a top heavy 2500# surface grinder or Bridgeport mill on an air bag trailer. This single axle version would be ideal for appliance or spa delivery.

    For two bikes, all you'd need is a metal 2-3 inch tall metal strip down the center with some slots cut.
    It would still clear most small cars and tractors, as well.

    Great job, and entertaining too! You could make a high pressure 110 compressor yourself out of a old freezer or fridge compressor. A lot of them can do very high pressure with low amp draw at startup so your inverter should handle it just fine The compressor will be lower volume but quiet.

    Do you think a pair of trailer mounted bump stops that lock in place during towing to keep it from fully drooping in an emergency and as a safety precaution when going over unexpected large bumps would help? Thanks for sharing and great work! I'm really thinking about getting a copy for myself, but I just got to get a car to take to the track first.

    so glad i found your videos. i recently purchased/sold a civic hatch and my buddy i purchased the car from dropped it off with a hydraulic/drop trailer. i recently purchased a tubing bender and industrial band saw and thought, what's a way i can make some of my money back on these tools and use them to help make it.. So I figured it'd be cool to build some custom trailers. i liked the lowering trailer idea and decided i didn't want to mess with hydraulics really, but figured air bag suspension would be a cool alternative.. then realized people were already doing it lol. never seen it and thought i had an amazing new idea.. guess i don't have to design it now though.

    Viny. I had a thought. Would having a way to set a ride height safety stop be helpful? Incase you blow a bag while in transit, the trailer doesn't coming crashing to the ground, but back onto a safety pin and allow you to still trailer to safety.

    Another option is to use a triple convoluted air spring or a rolling sleeve air spring to increase capacity go with a larger spring od and yes you can increase capacity by increasing the arm length on the air spring side and if using a triple convoluted or rolling lobe air spring with longer travel you can get the same travel while increasing capacity or decreasing the required pressure in the air springs (they last longer at 15-50 psi than 80+)

    Doesn't seem like the shock absorbers are really doing anything unless they are basically being used as a telescoping linkage for that end of the cantilever.

    • @AlexanderBurgers
      @AlexanderBurgers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what the rules are there, but here shock absorbers are mandatory for air spung and coil sprung trailers, so even if they don't do a lot, they do fit that criteria. :)

    Goes through the trouble of keeping airbag straight but no love for keeping the shock in-line with the movement of suspension.

    • @VinyB57
      @VinyB57  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The suspension is on a pivot, once extended (position up of the trailer) the shock is pretty much perpendicular to that pivot rotation (off by 20°), which is pretty much like a truck rear axle and it's working perfectly. Or even a macferson suspension, it's never perfectly in-line!! I have about 8'' of travel for the suspension and didn't want to have a stupidly high shock, so high that you won't be able to open the doors of the car you,re towing. So I jam a 4.8'' stroke shock and with a specific placement, was able to get that 8'' of travel needed. I really don't get why people are always bugging me with that shock position! Oh well I guess that's social network! 🤷‍♂️

    • @Fantaman900
      @Fantaman900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VinyB57 Shocks that go horizontal when suspension compresses really bugs me because I drove a friends car with that horrible setup on rear axle and it was very unstable compared to all the McPherson strut cars I have driven. McPherson and double A arms in OEM cars keep the the spring and shock angle change within a few degrees trough the whole travel range. Depending on where it bottoms out at it can be at most perpendicular angle at full compression. spring and shock are always in the same line, if springs are straight vertical and you shock goes towards horizontal when compressed you increase spring force but lessen dampening force. I even fault oem manufactures like that french car for stupid suspension setup and I will never want to own any vehicle with wonky suspension setup. If I ever build a drop trailer than this it's going to have something like a qa1 adjustable shock, you can place that where you have less travel but adjust valving for leverage arm.😁

  • @rotaryperfection
    @rotaryperfection ปีที่แล้ว

    I love the design! What is needed to raise the load capacity to 7,000lbs on the twin axle? Larger airbags? Hell I may even try to build a 10k trailer with twin 5k axles. I guess just beefing up the suspension should make that work.

    • @VinyB57
      @VinyB57  ปีที่แล้ว

      To increase lifting capacity, everything needs to be upgraded, from the axles to the bags, the swingarms and even the tubes used for the frame. I tried to match the capacity of each component, so to increase or even double the capacity, everything must be beefier

    • @rotaryperfection
      @rotaryperfection ปีที่แล้ว

      @Viny B That's what I figured. Thx! I've always wanted an airbag trailer since I buy auction cars so much. Your design looks soo much better than the others I saw with the bags at these weird angles when lifted. I may just try to convert an existing trailer I already have with your plans.

    • @VinyB57
      @VinyB57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much machining require. To fit the bushings, you will have to either get very lucky with the pipe size you have available and the bushing will fit snug in the pipes, or you machine them to fit
      (that's what I did, I mahcined them) All the shafts are in round up dimensions, so no need to machine them to fit the bushings.

    What about the UV degradation over time? Semi trucks all run on air bags and run easily a million miles but the air bags are hidden underneath and see minumum sun.

    This gave me a similar idea for a light duty trailer to pull behind my motorcycle. Instead of air bags, I plan on using adjustable bicycle air shocks.

I know it sounds harsh but then again i don't think your intention was to cater to pre teens. I'll hold off on subscribing for now but you get likes on your vids and i will be buying the plans.

    Dominator 2600s actually have a maximum pressure of 600 psi, not 100 psi.

    • @VinyB57
      @VinyB57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tom, I know exactly which spec you are talking about. And I was really confused back when I read it. It's 600 psi ''restrained'' ...like at a peak? 🤷‍♂️ But where I took the 100 psi was in the max load capacity. They claime that the max load capaciuy is 3055lb at 100psi. So This is where I based my theory...but again, I'm not telling I know the truht here..

    • @tombowman3058
      @tombowman3058 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VinyB57 I’m with you, I feel like the 600 may be the absolute maximum pressure of the bag. I did see the 100 psi rating as well. The 250 psi for the ss8 seems to be max pressure, I’m curious what the load capacity is at 100 psi.

    How many plans do you think you'll sell? As someone who's been fabricating stuff for myself for over 20 years that's not something I would ever buy. I also never used to buy tshirts as there were always ample free for advertising companies that I enjoyed/liked. However to support youtubers that I like, that's what I do, I buy some of their merch :-) But plans? No thanks. Design from scratch any day, my own features, my own flaws, my own joy in construction and ownership :-)

      @@VinyB57 I guess that's just hard for me to understand. I feel like anyone that can fabricate can design, but I'm probably wrong. I know that not everyone that can design can do the hands on part. I guess the reverse can be true, MIG welding isn't exactly difficult and reasons for knowing it can vary. I still feel like the overlap between can fab and can design is pretty high though. Good luck! :-)

    Am I the only one that thinks $60 is rediculous for plans because that money would be used for the materials to build it?

    • @VinyB57
      @VinyB57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Samuel, first, you don,t have to buy the plans, you can inspire yourself from what you saw on the videos and from other builds. Just keep in mind that a spend a least 20 hours on designing and cutting and remaking things around to make it work. It really depends on, if you have a lot of time on you hand and not a lot of $ or if you have less time, but a bit more money. Let's say, you make 20$ per hour in you pocket, it means that, to top that developpment and rework on the trailer that I did in 20hr, it could be done in 3 hours🤷‍♂️. But again, if you have the time and you wan't to learn how to create from scratch things, without the plans is the wait to got! But if you've got a wife and kids and want to built it and get it done not 2 years, 60$ CAD could be a small price to pay.
