What is paralysis?
Paralysis is when you can’t move certain parts of your body after something goes wrong with their connection to your brain. It comes in many different forms and can be temporary or permanent or even come and go.
How does our brain work?
Neurons (also called neurons or nerve cells) are the fundamental units of the brain and nervous system, the cells responsible for receiving sensory input from the external world, for sending motor commands to our muscles, and for transforming and relaying the electrical signals at every step in between.
How can exercise help in paralysis?
Exercise for paralysis patients may not promise to cure the condition, but it can definitely help enhance the ability of the patients to move their muscles and remain active. This article will find out some of the best hand-picked exercises effective for paralysis patients.
There can be two kinds of exercises for paralysis recovery. Active rehab exercise is the common one, which requires you to complete a movement independently. On the other hand, passive rehab exercise requires you to assist an infected body part through action. The second type of exercise is usually conducted among paralysis patients. It enables the patients to use an unaffected muscle to move the affected ones.
What is the role of occupational therapy in paralysis?
Occupational therapists help patients improve their sensory and motor abilities during the post-stroke recovery period so patients can relearn valuable skills, including grooming, using a computer, and cooking. With these skills, stroke survivors can return to normal life.
You will learn strategies to overcome challenges. Occupational therapists also teach survivors how to adapt to their new way of movement and range of motion. They teach practical strategies like how to divide a complex activity into smaller parts and then practice each part until the patient can perform the entire sequence of the activity. Plus, patients learn how to compensate for their new abilities and strategize to overcome challenges.
Patient Lakshmi had a brain stroke on 20th March. He started feeling discomfort in his arms and legs, and then got unconscious. Then he went to some doctors for a week, but it did not work out for him. After stressing and finding doctors, he finally came to Sai Sanjivani about a month ago; when he visited, he could walk, but his left hand was not moving, and his fingers were cramped.
