Cessna L-19 'Bird Dog' RC Plane from Foam

- All started with my friend Hendi, he wanted to build a huge scale of my Piper J Cub plans, 2 meters in wingspan, and then I offered him to build my new RC model design, although I haven't got it ready yet but he agreed, so I made the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog in just one night. I let Hendi to build his huge scale RC plane, the result is stunning with white red color scheme, it's very beautiful. The main material is 5mm Depron foam or foamboard. To add the realism I 3D printed a pilot figure with my new Bambu Lab X-1 Carbon 3D printer, the result is awesome, a very fast printer and still with good quality print result.

Specs :
1. Wingspan 2000mm / 79 inches
2. Flying weight : 2900 grams/ 102.3 oz
3. Wing loading :51.1 gram/dm2 - 16.7 oz/sq.ft.
4. Wing cube loading : 6.8 (Trainers = 6-7)
5. Wing Area : 56.80 dm2 / 880 sq.in.
6. CG : 25% wing chord
Electronics for test :
- 3548 1100kv
- 80A ESC
- Battery Lipo 4S 2200mah
- 2 x 7 gram servos (micro servo)
Materials :
1. 5mm Foamboard/ Depron/ Polyfoam
2. 10mm + 3mm Carbon Tube 1 meter and 50 cm
3. 0.3mm Mica Plastic
4. hot glue, UHU glue, CA glue

The print shop printed these off for me today can’t wait to build this bigger motor I think and looking forward to flying it , great job guys many many thanks 🙏

This Cessna is a little big monument, one kind of The aircraft ! Slow and calm flight.
What kind of bird could you build to reach slowest speed ? Bushplane STOL style. Huge flaps, slats, ..

An excellent build. Looks and flies so great.
The Cessna L19 Bird Dog has been used to tow sailplanes/gliders because it has excellent short field capability and great pilot visibility. Adding a tow hook so can tow a scale glider might be fun?

information 9:57 the mass of the wing-located servos Should be located Forward of the main spar/30% of chord. CF should NEVER be your 1st choice.!!! cf is HEAVIER than the 'same amount' of wood (such as pine/poplar/spruce). the use of cf for the half-main spars has resulted in there being a greater amount of outboard-located mass in the main wing. you may know that such outboard-located mass tends to adversely affect roll-axis stability. d

Dear Julius, if I make this plane down to scale 50%, with 1m wingspan, how it will effect performances of this airplane?
you should make it in 120 cm wingspan, the same size as my Cessna 172, it will fly the same

in term of easy flying yes, but for the weight and cost, it's not for beginner. Try to build Cessna 172, you can find it also in my channel, or Wilga

All fans of aircraft modeling, I have such a question, if this model was assembled with the function of manufactured flaps, then why were they not used on takeoff and landing? So the model is beautiful, and I want to assemble it too, and I will try to do it like Sky Arrow, which I am happy with now. 👍
This is the second Sky Arrow model, slightly modified, I changed the design of the wing and, as on the first model, I closed it when I was shooting a flight video, I used flaps during takeoff and landing.

It called by many names, but the material somewhat similar or the same, all are XPS foam. Names of many countries : Depron foam, foam board, polyfoam, dollar tree foam, blue foam, etc
