Charlie protected Nick throughout. He didn't force a label on Nick, didn't out Nick to anyone, gave Nick much needed space to figure himself out & actively tried not to be clingy or demanding of Nick's time. As a queer person, let me tell ya, that is far too rare. Charlie doesn't get near enough credit IMO.

One of my favorite things about this show is that Nick is the one who tells all of Charlie's friends.
Exactly, and he continued to endure abuse at the hands of Nick’s ‘friends’ and protected his secret even after an abusive secret relationship. Nick is a dream guy, but Charlie is king.
Yes! And there are so many other reasons why Charlie is such an admirable character, a lot of reasons behind his decisions that truly show how strong, empathetic and respectful he is. However they are mostly explored in later books so it is currently not in the tv series. So that’s super annoying haha, because there’s so many things that make Charlie so deserving of appreciation but they aren’t being explicitly showed yet.
@@kore5279 I agree that the future seasons are really going to be more about Charlie’s journey whereas season one, based on books one and two, were focused a bit more on Nick’s. Once Nick understands and accepts his orientation, he doesn’t have a lot more personal growth to do but poor Charlie really needs to heal and love himself more. I think this will be a great opportunity for Joe Locke to showcase his talent as an actor as well.

Alice has done Flashforward mini comics for Nick and Charlie in the comics...and y'all are very very right. They are still together 10 years down the road. They are absolutely together for LIFE. And we love to see it. They are truly soulmates or twin flames or whatever you want to call it. They are perfect for eachother.

I don't know if anyone commented this but yes - the cast are very good friends. they became close while acting in this show:) and the funniest thing is - the actors whose characters hate each other are the closest friends in real life ahah
I would definitely recommend reading the graphic novels and you will also see how faithfully the show stuck to them. Obviously there was more added in for the show, but the parts that were directly from the comic books are almost cell perfect. Great reactions, really enjoyed them. 👍
I laughed when you said that the actor that plays Tao is a theatre kid because is so true, this was his first on screen role, most of the cast are rookies and even if they all are really good and perfectly casted you can tell which one are the ones that have experience.

About Tao’s Hair, I heard a theory that it was actually his rebellion against the above chin hair rule that Elle got in trouble for and he was growing it out in solidarity with her which pretty cute.
And supposedly he curls them so they are above the chin so he doesn’t get in trouble all the time but it’s just a theory i saw online
will recently said that the stylist decided on his hairstyle because they needed something to make tao look believably like an outcast because will himself is literally a model

Charlie didn’t tell Tao because he didn’t tell any of them. Nick told the rest when he was ready for them to know. Charlie was prob waiting till Nick was ok with Tao knowing. There is another reason Charlie wouldn’t want Tao to know. Tao is who outed Charlie.. that’s why Tao said Charlie prob thought he Would accidentally out Nick.

If any of them had been paying attention and had any braincells that day Tao very easily could and would have outed Nick too in that moment.
Charlie said what he said to deflect any suspicion about their relationship to spare Nick. I think everything in episode 7, Charlie lets the his insecurities and low self-esteem get the best of him. Tao is the most misinformed character who was is very reactionary and his personal feelings became his blinders that made his protectiveness leaning toward problematic. I love that they resolve things in a way that wasn’t heightened. It did suck that they didn’t tell him right then and there at the milkshake cafe like Elle. It is a sh*tty feeling being left out and to be the last to know something in your friend group. I wished Olivia Colman was my mother. Coming out is tough, and worse when you know how they’ll react negatively and prove you right. Nick is wearing Charlie’s color on his shirt and Charlie has Nick’s color on his shirt on their first official date at the beach. Can’t wait for season 2.

Alice Oseman, who wrote the graphic novel and the show, is actually pretty young. Especially when she wrote the webcomic. She was just out of high school. It isn't written by old people lol I think the whole 'over exaggerated bully's thing is a product of fan fiction. And not old people writing it.

As a dark-skinned black woman in her late 30s it is truly amazing what Alice and the writers did with the show and the way they portrayed Tara because although the main couple is Charlie and Nick you can see how important Tara is for the entire storyline since the beginning as Nick’s first kiss when they were 13, as the person all rugby team perceived (without any kind of negative comments about her race or ethnicity) as Nick’s love interest on episodes 2 and 3, as the pivotal person who made Nick comfortable to realise his feelings for Charlie were valid and he needed to give them a chance on episode 3, as the person he opened up about being with Charlie on episode 6. Tara is definitely an important piece of the all plot and we are here for it. Young/teens/older black girls, especially black-skinned, are going to see this and feel represented in the way we truly deserve, as the role models we are, because Tara alongside of being extremely gorgeous is one the most caring, friendly, emotionally intelligent, true to herself characters of the all show. Corinna Brown did an amazing job portraying Tara.

Also I can say as a 21 year old lesbian I still get people online and in person like this. Perfect example. My gf and I were walking to my little sister’s school bus to pick her up. Some ass “excuse the language” stops right infront of us. Calls us both a fag, throws empty beer cans at us then drives off. So in the comic books, Charlie and Nick are doing all of this sneaking around saying how good they are at hiding it, but they always cut to like the other boys on the rugby team going "okay, but they're totally dating, right?"

alice oseman does let us know to be easy on tao, as annoying as his behavior can be he fears being alone and losing his friends but he vividly oversteers. he also really loves charlie and doesnt want him hurt. he was acting based on information that was given to him. he really blossoms in further volumes especially in his relationship with elle.
AHHHHH I have been WAITING for this!! I get the reaction to Tao but he is young and has serious abandonment issues. Plus he needs to learn boundaries but he will get there. My favourite thing about this show is that communication is key. I am so used to conflict being something that can be resolved within a two minute conversation but here, people talk to each other. LOVE IT (you two whenever Nick comes on screen makes me actually laugh out loud)

I don't know if it's been released yet in the UK, but Our Flag Means Death is a queer pirate rom-com. No spoilers, but it's not just romances btwn white folk. Total comfort show, highly recommend. The first couple eps are a warm up, big arcs start from ep4 onwards.

i think charlie said nick isn't his type to protect nick from any rumours. he's way too selfless to even try to actively hurt nick that way
also, i agree how tao's actor feels a little too theatrical compared to the other cast members lol. i could see him improving moving forward as this is the first on-screen gig for the most of them(including him). kit(nick's actor) is evidently leaps and bounds feels more seasoned than the rest of the younger cast because he's had a few legit projects under his belt. the fact that he was able to keep up with olivia colman is crazy.

@@AnxietyRat look, another reactor also noted will's "theatrical acting". check out Corey Schultz's last heartstopper reaction. it's not a coincidence. it's also not a bad thing. he comes from theatre and not everyone can switch from that to tv(and vice versa) seamlessly. they're all young and just fresh to the screen. they all have so much potential. it's just easy to pick that stuff out especially when they're going for realistic type of vibe

tao is actually the character that i resonate with the most, because he's literally me if i were braver. i feel like my inner self is just like him, because in my head i'm so salty about so many things and i'm a master at telling people off. but on the outside i never express any of that. so i actually look up to tao a lot because he actually stands up for people. also, i'm a loud skinny asian and we just have that type of solidarity.

4:41 - had my thinking of this new show Netflix just came out with. I haven't watched it yet but it's called First Kill and it's basically two girls. One's a vampire and lives in a family of vampires and the other girl who's family is vampire killers and the two girls start to fall for each other. I'm not sure if it makes sense but it's a lesbian romance with a POC main character.
It's basically like Teen wolf. Except with vampires instead of werewolves...and lesbians instead of straights. Exact same premise. It's great.
It has the same issues most shows of this genre have in their 1st seasons. Budget issues. So the fight choreo and the CGI are... not great. But the acting is solid, IMO. Better acting than season 1 of Shadowhunters. If they get a Season 2 with a budget increase... there's definitely room for improvement!
Tao has that hair because of Elle. When Elle was getting bullied in the boys school Tao grew out his hair out of solidarity.

It’s a teen drama show, but it has a much more authentic feeling about it than many shows you see today. There are 4 seasons, each with it’s own main character and heavy themes, but the episodes are short so you can watch many in a row:))

I love Nick and Charlie, they're both my favorites in heartstopper, but it feels like we always get the same 2 white boy gay love story, and BIPOC are just supporting main characters. I love heartstopper, and I always will, but at the end of the day, white folk still get their show centered around them.

Yes! I've also recommend they watch it! Them talking about wanting black dark skinned main character rep... first kill is right there with it!!! And it's gay on top of that! It's great. I'm hoping they get more budget for improved CGI and fight choreo in season 2. Cause like with most supernatural genre shows...those were the weak points. But most season 1s of this genre have this issue and it boils down to budget issues 9 times out of 10.

if you guys need a new show to watch/react to, i would really recommend FIRST KILL. It's about vampires and hunters, and it features a main biracial sapphic relationship, it's a little cheesy and the CGI is not great (because of the low budget), but i think it's still a pretty good show.
