In the UK we have slow worms very commonly and they scare lots of people who think theyre snakes but really theyre nice and calm legless lizards
Legless lizards have a somewhat straighter head and they shed differently
To add on to Moykurs, their bodies are segmented differently. Snakes bodies are built very specifically. A legless lizard is built like a lizard but without the legs.
Where I live, there´s a legless lizard species called Blindworm. If you look at their skelletons, you can still see hints of leg bones, and some are even still born with legs from time to time, while snake skelletons got completely rid of any resemblance of leg bones.

If you don’t like bite marks just get a ring snake they only get a few centimeters long,but make sure you have shallow water dishes and a steady supply of really really small food. Or a kind-natured garter snake,really easy to take care of garter snakes

As a guinea pig owner, I want to say that I have immense respect for these owners for not feeding their animals live rodents. I understand and support the fact that reptiles, especially large snakes, need to eat rodents in order to get the nutrients they need to survive, and that in the wild that would be a considerable part of their diet. However, I simply cannot justify the act of putting one live, thinking, feeling animal in a small, enclosed space with a deadly predator and putting it through a slow, terror-inducing death. I've seen too many videos on TH-cam of people feeding their large pythons and constrictors live guinea pigs and it often takes up to two minutes for the pig to die once the snake has it wrapped. You can hear the pig screaming in terror the entire time and while I understand that there are apparently some snakes that flat out refuse to eat frozen rodents, I don't understand why the owner doesn't just put the prey animal through a quick, relatively painless death right before offering it to the reptile. I respect that snakes need to eat, I just can't respect putting another animal through unnecessary terror and pain in the process. Honestly, I'm sad that this video got demonetized and hope that this channel grows in popularity.

It was pretty interesting to see because the goat was so terrified that it stiffened and dropped to the side before the jaguar pounced at its neck. Quite cruel, yes, but the owner said that the big cat gets depressive if there is no 'action' with living food from time to time.
Anyway, my opinion is that wild animals should be left alone and not used as pets, but that will never happen. There is a lot of cruelty connected to it.
Another good way to keep a cats weight under control: Use bland food in their largish primary feeder, that they have 24/7 access to. Use high calorie yummy food in a separate area and just give them a little each day. Then, if you have to leave for a couple days, just top off the bland food. They'll treat the bland food like emergency rations.

If she already associates an orange circular object with food, you could start introducing a similar orange circle on that platform and see if placing it there and building an association with a cue or sound, would get the food response at the barrier to decrease.
