- Real Cantina Band, Figrin D'an And The Modal Nodes playing "Cantina Band" at "STAR WARS DAY" TOKYO 2019 event in Roppongi, Tokyo, Japan.
This Real Cantina Band is a quintet of Soprano saxophone, Tenor saxophone, Baritone saxophone, Alto clarinet and drums.
"Cantina Band" was scored by John Williams for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
"Cantina Band"`s in-universe name is "Mad About Me,"
May 4th is commonly known as Star Wars Day.
It is The pun on "May the force be with you", the famous line from the Star Wars series.

It´s really impressive how a simple background soundtrack title became a classic of contemporary jazz.
Star Wars makes the magic happens.

That magic came from Abbey Road. The score was recorded where the Beatles made their records.
This is great, but it's missing the steel drum.
Also the muted trumpet and the clarinet.
They couldn't get it through Earth customs.
And the bass
One of THE BEST ragtime tunes ever, up there with Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag"!
I'm disappointed that they didn't introduce it as "Mad About Me", the canon name of the song.

playing live in those costumes takes real appreciation... obviously disappointed about the steel drum, but it was still great

That does seem like an intentional flaw. The alto clarinet just doesn't sound as good as the alto sax
@@jetsettech8804 I think the idea in the movie was that they were the sort if band who'd have to play places like the cantina as nowhere more up market would have them.

They are playing without a bass. The walking bass line in the original has an enormous presence. Without the bass, even if the rest is played spot on, its going to feel light.
That clapping ruined it.
