Hi everyone, I would like to say I have taught a lot of amazing students throughout the years who were respectful and wanted to earn a good education. I do not want to overlook them because they were amazing, but my experience overall is presented in this video because quite often it is the majority of the class who has had a difficult time valuing education, behaving, focusing and making good choices and an immense amount of unsupportative parents. However, I would like to thank every single parent that works hard for their kids each and everyday and has been very supportive of teachers!! Your support has meant so much to me and I’m sure to every teacher that you have encountered! 🥰❤️❤️
This video and perspective was so excellently delivered. As a Bahamian teacher going into her 10th year I can definitely relate to your story and say that it is a very common one for MANY of us. I too am currently struggling with my decision to stay or walk away from this career for the same reasons, but I am trusting the guidance of the Lord. It is so hard to leave something that you have worked so long and endlessly for and poured so much of yourself into. I pray it gets better for all teachers who are having a similar experience. ❤️❤️❤️
@@aliciaadderley7103 I hope so too. I had to walk a way from it. I taught in another country & state but it made no difference. The funny thing is some parents know exactly who their children are because the minute school is on break they can't wait for school to start because they don't want to deal with their children. They think it's the teacher's job to do so but when the teacher does it and the child comes home and make a complain then it's another problem. @jowelgray303 Sounds like you were at the wrong school or district. Some places are better or worse than others when it comes to support and control over the kids.
As a teacher, i agree with everything. Parents need to hold their child accountable. Parents confuse gentle parenting with not disciplining their child.
Please drop the narrative of gentle parenting being the issue. These are societal problems that have been decades in the making. This is not a case of spoiled children caused by sparing the rod. Gentle parenting does not equate to parents who don’t discipline. Discipline also has little to nothing to do with fear, violence or punishment. Adults and politicians are responsible for the state of public education. Please do not over simplify a layered issue. Please research the foundation of gentle parenting before criticizing. Children displaying behaviors that impact their academics, relationships and over all development/personal progress are not handled gently at home. ❤
@nedjina12 I love teaching But the issue is, teachers are told to give assessment after assessment, babysit kids, be therapists, get trainings and other things except the one job they were hired to do……which is teach.
I'm 41 years old. I remember being in the 3td grade and a parent came to our classroom. This parent daughter was miss behaving so badly. My classmate was disrupting the class. Talking to the teacher crazy. But, why my classmate did not know is her mother was in the classroom right next to the coat closet watching her. My classmate mom walked through the coat closet to the back of the classroom and yanked her out of her sit. My classmate was in shock l. The whole time she was acting up her mom was there and saw it all. Her mom took her into that coat closet and beat her butt. Needless to say that classmate did not act up in school anymore.
That's why we asked parents to go past our gate to spank then bring them back to class. Always bring them back. Demonstrative for the kids who act up to go home
Wow. That must of been embarrassing. That’s what some of these kids need. They act out now as kids later act out as adults and go to jail and get records. I don’t promote beating kids, but these parents need to do better disciplining their kids. But instead, these parents will make excuses for their kids, bad behavior and even want to fight the teacher for trying to discipline their kids. it’s like they’re cosigning their kids bad dtysfunctioning behaviors. I understand why teachers are leaving
It should but it will not because it’s too real and possibly scare others away. They just have to experience it first hand as I and so many others had to. My colleague told me ahead of time had a mini heart attack from teaching so she tried it a few more years then became a LT. Less stress for her! I was not about to go through that. Two years through an accelerated program and I was done!
Martha, Martha, Martha, beautifully said. This was my exact reasoning for leaving teaching. I stayed home after COVID and my husband noticed an “ease” about me that bought peace into our home. At that point, I chose my family, health, and joy. I made a pivot with grace and trust in GOD and HE has made away. Thank you for your words and may GOD bless you and your family.
Awww I love that so much for you. I am honestly so happy for you and most importantly your family because i understand the toll it takes on them! I feel even feel like in just a few weeks of being out of school - I and my family have noticed such a change in me praise God!🙌
Thank you for your service. You did what most of us wouldn’t do. I see a lot of good teachers leaving because of the same reason. Thank you for choosing you and your family.
How can I like this more than once? Perfectly put Martha.Thank you for your service, Martha. I pray that God continues to order your steps and protect you on your new journey.🙏🏾
My 100 yr old great great grandmother always said your home is your first ministry. Teachers should absolutely get paid like athletes in my opinion. I’m excited for your new journey. You have no idea how you & your husband podcast has helped me grow as a single mom, in med school, a son in college & one in his senior year and so on…thank you for your service as a teacher in multiple ways
I totally agree with everything that you stated. This year was my third and final year as a special education teacher. Parents are the root of the problem. Many parents refuse to discipline their children. I don’t mean for them to physically harm their children but they need to help teachers with consistency and letting their child know that all actions have an equal or greater reaction. In school there are no consequences for the students. The teachers are afraid of the admin, the admin are afraid of the parents, parents are afraid of the students and the students have no fear.
Nailed it. Parents are afraid of their own kids (like, what?!) or - want to be their friend. Never mind good parenting, I’ll settle for parents who at least TRY to parent.
This was my last year teaching as well. It taught for 5 years. Worst 5 years of my life. I can’t take another year of misery. I’m a new mom. I have a toddler and a baby on the way and I can’t give my children the miserable and depressed mom because of this profession. Well done and well said Martha!
My God! I came across this video for a reason. I been crying out to God.Everything you have said is so true. I feel the same way right now. I have nothing left in me right now. I can't no more. I pour out my whole energy. My mental health is going down. Administrators treat teachers like kids.I barely have time with my own daughter. I'm done.

So beautifully articulated. I left the education field two years ago. It took so much faith to leave but I will say this God has surpassed my expectations and opened doors that I hadn’t even imagined. May God bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine on you and give you peace. So many blessings and open doors on the way for you and your family! & THANK YOU for 17 years of service.
2022 - 2023 was my LAST YEAR teaching in public school! I'm "walking on water" and trusting the Lord, too! I am so encouraged by your video! You took the words right out of my mouth! Even when you said your husband said you change when school starts, my husband told me the same thing. My prayer is that, somehow, we teachers who have left public school could come together as the great teachers we are and create an educational platform that has the Word of God as our foundation! You've advocated for ALL TEACHERS!! You are an ADVOCATE! This video took COURAGE, and even though I've never met you, I am proud of the stand you've taken! I pray Father's BLESSINGS on you and your family!! No GOOD THING will He withhold from them who walk upright before Him!!! 🙏🏾❤
Girl I’m a teacher too, I’m trying to quit!!!! It’s hard. I’ve been teaching for 13years in tx. Oh and yes I have felt like I needed to choose my own children and give them what I was giving everyone else’s kids. These parents really need to step it up.
Texas teacher here, as well. I did just that, pulled my daughter out of public school and started homeschooling her. She has excelled. I fed into her what I was trying to give to others. God bless in your journey.
I have a child in elementary school and have always been 100% involved with her learning in partnership with her teachers. However, it wasn't until I started subbing at her school that I gained insight into what teachers experience each day. It is startling what Teachers experience not just from their students and the parents, but also the lack of support oftentimes and undermining of administrators. God bless ALL Teachers and thank you for what you do each day for our children ❤️
I agree with the gift thing. The best thing a parent can do for a teacher is teach them manners and how to behave to make the teacher’s job less stressful. Also, a simple “thank you for what you do for my child” is nice and heart warming too. As a teacher, I appreciate those 2 things a lot more than the flowers and mugs (though it’s flattering to get those too lol).
I taught for 15 years; I know this feeling all too well. I left Special Education for the same reasons. I got tired of fighting The System! I am now a Mental Health Wellness Coach. I've been working for myself for 7 years!...Congratulations to you and your New Journey!❤🙏
SPEAK ON IT!!! I left teaching as well, I taught Pre 3/4. Whew, you never lied. I was COMPLETELY drained by the end of the day, it got old. I left and became an RN
Wow, 2 selfless and thankless careers😩 God bless you, neither one gets the respect and support that is needed. Thank you for your contribution to society🥰
Amen! I left the classroom a year ago after much prayer and fasting. I too am out here trusting God and walking on water. Right now I run a licensed private prek from home with 6 children and 4 and 5 years old. It's a more controlled environment where I can vet the families I serve and decide what I want to put up with. God has provided AMAZING families. I took a pay cut as a certified master degreed teacher but I have more peace. Not sure of the Lord will expand my territory or have .e do something totally different in the future. I know the Lord will lead you, guide you and provide for all of your needs. Congratulations to you my beautiful sister in Christ! New subscriber here!
"I don't know where this season will take me, but one thing I know is I will not sink nor will I fail bc God is with me"... I felt that ❤. Thank u for being an inspiration.
"When school starts I am going to war because I don't know what I will be met with!" Powerful mindset that I use when school starts. Thank you for this statement.
@julbro Kids nowadays are in a rude awakening. They’re going to have to learn life’s important lessons the hard way. Parents and admin LOVE to play with kids but the real world doesn’t play. The real world WILL hold them accountable and WONT hold their hand.
This could be a really good Ted Talk. Thank you for speaking truth for teachers. I have anxiety about the new school year already, and it starts 4 weeks from now. This is year 11 for me.
I agree completely. It is draining and tiring to be with kids everyday and have little support. There is no accountability in the classroom, I feel like we are coddling these kids and not telling them no. Which like you said gies them a false sense of reality. I pray for the future of the kids, because it starts at home. There is only so much we can do in the classroom.
Every teacher can relate to this video Martha. I do not have children, but I know the draining and depleting feeling at the end of the school day. I had to be intentional about making my weekends for myself, where I would do things that helped me to decompress! Teaching has changed so it is very challenging! I pray for your new choice and peace of mind. 🙏
❤❤❤ I resigned from the school system in 2021. I felt limited, stressed, frustrated, unappreciated, sleepless nights and very high anxiety. I was soooooooo glad once God released me to resign. God is so faithful. I'm very excited about your new journey. ❤
@@De3e3 I had a peace that came over me that I've never experienced the other times I thought of leaving in my 16 years. God gave me specific instructions on writing my resignation letter. He told me that if I obey Him , my exit plan would be perfected through Him. At first I thought, why does it have to be perfect, I'm not coming back, lol. But I obeyed every step down to the date, which benefited more than I realized at that time. The moment I announced that I was leaving, I felt an embrace of peace and a calmness that overcame me. I could breathe clearly again. And I was thrown a farewell party. There were times after leaving I would question myself if I made the right decision of course. God would always reassure me. God gave my husband and I a business idea and the name of it. We're blessed. I truly believe that obedience is everything .
Teachers/Educators are supposed to be filthy stinking rich! You guy's are also supposed to be supported and respected like none other. I wish my child had a teacher like you in my previous county. You can tell that you truly care. Thank you for your services 🙏🏿
@jaeeluv Not just that but valued and appreciated on a higher level. Their needs and well-being should be made a priority over ratings and fear of parent yelling/cussing at principal. The higher pay would be nice but no amount of money will change the issue of kids and parents disrespecting the teachers and staff with no consequences.

This is so truthful I was a teacher for 5 years and literally couldn’t agree more. I left 5 years ago for animist reasons as well. Thanks Martha for being the voice
Right now, I’m in a place where I have a great and healthy position. I’m an intervention teacher at an elementary school. I work with small groups throughout the day instead of my own full class……which is a blessing🙏🏽 after seeing how kids in a full class are🙁. But I still got a little PTSD during my student teaching. The kids were sweet and I bonded with them well. But my mentor constantly gave the BS excuse if “The kids are bored and that’s why they fool around during my lesson”. It shows a lack of accountability for the kids behavior.
As a student back then, Teaching seems to be completely different compared to when I was in school back then. There was no fooling around and cutting up in school then. The biggest lessons starts at home. Parents want teachers to pick up on the lack of basic learning and effort that should’ve been taught at home. Always choose you and everything attached to you that you love. God will order your steps.
This was well said from a teachers perspective. I’m a parent and I stayed at the school when it came to my kids. I was known by the staff at every school my kids went to and I participated in just about everything. Because I wanted to stay on top of their education and to let the teachers know, I’m going to be here whenever they call me. I have been asked , could I take some of the other kids home with me and train them like I had my kids. We were loved by the staff because I didn’t play that. Y’all are not baby sitters , y’all are TEACHERS and you deserve respect.
Thanks so much for sharing. I stepped down as a hairstylist after 20 yrs for the exact same reasons you left teaching. I have so much peace, joy and family time. I've lacked nothing these past 3 months ...God is so faithful . I wish you all the best 👍🏾
I left teaching as well, never looked and never regretted a moment of it. God has blessed me beyond measure and he will do the same for you and your family
Not one lied told! Glory to God for the truth being told 🙌🏾! Thank you for your service, I know that you've impacted some lives and someone is preparing for college because they had a teacher like you 🙏🏾. After 3 years I'm leaving the classroom and becoming a librarian (originally what I went to school for). Hoping for the best for you and me on our new journeys.
Girl, I didn't know you were a teacher. I haven't taught in almost 20 years and it has been a rollercoaster ride but no regrets because I can advocate for children and education in other ways. Congrats, God's speed, and continued success with your endeavors! 😊
2020-2021 were my best years. I know now because my best students showed up to every virtual session and I didn't have to deal with student antics. Just mute or stop video. I loved learning the technology. Retired '23
I taught 31 years and retired in 2022. I was hesitant about retiring but knew that I could not physically, mentally or emotionally do another year. Honestly, my last 5 years of teaching was to get to 30 just to get the full health benefits. Hearing this lets me know that I was correct in what I was feeling. Upon retiring I felt as though it was not as bad as I thought when in my heart I knew it was. I prayed about retiring and everything went through so smoothly that I knew I was doing the right thing. I understand about not having enough of you for your own kids. I didn't have kids of my own and it was sooooooooo hard. So for those that did have children I could not have fathom how you did it. This video validated everything I was feeling, thinking and going through before I retired. God will never leave you nor forsake you. May He Bless you on your next endeavor.
Let the church say Amen! I have been teaching for 19 years in Texas. I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Thank you for sharing as you have encouraged me and reminded me of God’s faithfulness. We must trust Him in all things for He cannot fail. May God continue to bless you and your family as you start a new chapter!
When I was student teaching, the one praise I absolutely stand was “The kids don’t pay attention b/c they’re bored”. That’s the most BS thing ever. That mindset babies them and deprives them of preparation for the future. Being “bored” is no excuse for failing at your responsibilities. That won’t work in the real world when they become adults and have to get jobs and pay bills.
Martha!!! This is PRICELESS!!! I totally AGREE. I am in the classroom for 37 years now and I have given it my ALL. It’s a War Zone!!! As a teacher, I will ALWAYS be a content Creator so I have just started creating content on TH-cam… I will see where this takes me🙏 I am walking on water too❤✌️Wishing you ALL the very BEST, Martha, on your new chapter in your life.
So sorry to hear this, but I totally understand. I taught for over 20 years. I worked with mostly middle school students. It was extremely difficult, probably the hardest challenge of my life. I don't know you, but I believe you are a great teacher. I see your interactions with your children. I see your love for children in how you interact with them. Wishing you Godspeed! He will order your steps!
The world wants us to put on capes and save these children, but we, as believers, know who the only one who can save them is. May your faith in the Lord remain strong in this season. Thank God for this opportunity to continue to strengthen your faith in him. Many blessings!
Say it again for the people in the back. Underpaid, devalued, time-filling babysitters used as punching bags. You hit the nail on the head with work ethics and differentiating between advocating and enabling. I taught a student who has had emotional problems since Kindergarten, she would yell at adults and her mom blamed us. Without rules, children can become unruly. Although this profession can be rewarding, it can definitely be draining. Wishing you all the best. God has you. ❤
I’m back….when you said we are on the battlefield. I say this. The decision-makers make decisions and don’t invite us to have input. We are the ones in the trenches. 🙏🏾
Whew! I wish I could love this video a million times. You just went through my whole entire school year in this video. I’ve dealt with both sides of the fence having parents that are not involved to having those helicopter parents. It truly is very draining. Dealing with parents, students, administrators, testing requirements. It has become so overwhelming. I’m praying for a better school year next year. Excited for your new journey.
Thank you for sharing your story. I have 4 children and I decided to pursue teaching in 2022. I wanted to be able to educate my own children and others. I have only heard horror stories about being a teacher. But for some reason I’m moving forward with it. I believe there is a reason for every season. I trust God!!
Good luck. It's not an easy job because there's no support from parents or administrators. You'll be on your own. While you're pursuing your degree, I recommend that you substitute teach so you can get a feel of how it will be in the classroom. Subbing is a little different from being the teacher of record, but you can gain some classroom experience. I would hate for you to spend thousands of dollars on a degree to end up not liking your job. Unfortunately, many people do this because they don't know the reality of teaching.
This is SO real and 100% true!! Thank you for your service and lasting 17 years in the classroom!! I know God has great things in store for you and your family!! Ephesians 3:20

As a daycare worker I can second EVERYTHING you said in this video. Thank you for your many years of service! Being an educator to children who's parents are not involved is so difficult. I too plan to move on at the end of the year. God has called me to teach, but it can't be in the classroom because I have lost my joy and can no longer be of good service to them in that capacity. So I'm praying and asking God in what capacity he wants me to teach. Y'all pray for me me and I seek the Lord and His perfect will for my life!
My kids went to public and private school where most of the teachers were former public school teachers....they all (including) the principal were very happy about their transition even though the pay was low! The parents were really appreciative.
I 100% agree with everything you said! We are now being asked to cater to the whims of children and entertain them. Not everything is going to be fun, and that has to be ok! I left halfway through this past school year and swore I would never go back…I’ll be back in the classroom this fall. I’m not saying this is everyone’s situation and I’m embarrassed to say this, but unfortunately I couldn’t find a job that would pay me as much as teaching did with the same benefits. I wish you all the best!
I am a parent who homeschools my children. As an educator I know that you are telling the truth, and I appreciate you sharing an honest perspective. Even as a parent who homeschools my children, it is difficult because this lazy mindset, and this corrosive culture has even seeped into the home school setting. I applaud your decision to do what's best for you and your family and I wish you nothing but success in your future journey 🙏🏾

I could never be a teacher because I would probably go to jail. I found that out real quick by volunteering and being a chaperone on my daughter’s field trips. I told her teacher I will ONLY chaperone the children that respect adults and listen to authority!!!! The bad kids shouldn’t be allowed to go anywhere unless their parents are present watching THEIR disrespectful kids!!! I have ZERO TOLERANCE for disrespectful kids!!! I always take GREAT care of my daughter’s teachers. I love them all rather good or not so good. Good for you choosing your family and mental health. Many blessings to you!!!❤
I worked summer school and field trips were a NIGHTMARE. They only "respect" who ever is providing access to their favorite activity. They would literally wander off and hide while we were supposed to be enjoying the outing. How can I search for an AWOL kid because my "partner" has decided to leave not while in line for a ride but at MINI GOLF without leaving the kids that stayed with the group 🤯 They considered her their "real teacher" cause it was her class full-time, I was just the help. She gave them access to tablets and paint while I gave them lectures on behavior 😂 I was actually more effective just not whenever she was there cause she would offer them candy 🙄

Yea I've noticed that parents confuse gentle parenting and don't do their own research what it actually entails.
@nedjina12
I love teaching
But the issue is, teachers are told to give assessment after assessment, babysit kids, be therapists, get trainings and other things except the one job they were hired to do……which is teach.

Today the teacher is mandated to call cps if a parent does that.
Need some more of this. But the world calls it abuse. Sigh
Your video should be apart of a seminar for teachers and the school system across the board.

Amen to that your home is your first ministry and it's biblical.. start in Jerusalem first and Samaria and the utmost part of the earth..
It's crazy to deal with 25 nine year old toddlers for little pay. Might as well be a nanny if they're not going to learn anything 🤯
That part!!!
You're right.
So true.
Ooooh!!! You said it all! 👏🏾
Nailed it. Parents are afraid of their own kids (like, what?!) or - want to be their friend. Never mind good parenting, I’ll settle for parents who at least TRY to parent.
I'm a teacher and I need to choose peace. I love teaching bur everything you said is true😥
I'm done.
I also want to leave the profession, but unfortunately due to financial constraints I can't.

Thanks so much and I'm so happy to hear that God has been and will continue to be faithful to you and your family on your journey as well!🙌

As a teacher and a mother, I feel all of this!! It’s rough out here in these teaching streets. ❤
The biggest misconception is that upcoming teachers think schools are the same way it was in 2003 when they were kids. 🤷🏽♀️😂

You are 100% on point. Some kids are always absent, others not putting forth effort. I am seriously concerned about their future.
@julbro
Kids nowadays are in a rude awakening. They’re going to have to learn life’s important lessons the hard way. Parents and admin LOVE to play with kids but the real world doesn’t play. The real world WILL hold them accountable and WONT hold their hand.
Happy for you! Been in my school system 41 years, and these past couple of years have been the toughest. Something has to change in our culture.
This could be a really good Ted Talk. Thank you for speaking truth for teachers. I have anxiety about the new school year already, and it starts 4 weeks from now. This is year 11 for me.
Happy Tuesday! Jeremiah 29:11 For I Know The Plans I Have For You declare The Lord! Everything going to be Alright! Trust Him!❤

🗣️🗣️ “MAKE YOUR CHILD BEHAVE!” All us teachers need that on a shirt lol

Congrats on choosing You!
Just curious, how did you know that God released you to resign?

@jaeeluv
Not just that but valued and appreciated on a higher level. Their needs and well-being should be made a priority over ratings and fear of parent yelling/cussing at principal.
The higher pay would be nice but no amount of money will change the issue of kids and parents disrespecting the teachers and staff with no consequences.
But teachers are the opposite

You did the right thing. You’ll never get that time back with your own kids.
God bless you so much. Thumbs up ❤
Wow! Praise God you can make this choice! So many teachers feel like this but stay because they don’t know what else to do.

I choose peace, family, and mental health and yes....that is ok. ❤❤❤ This video is the truth. 💯

Say it again for the people in the back. Underpaid, devalued, time-filling babysitters used as punching bags.

Exactly the same reason I left teaching. I miss it but I feel more at peace
Likewise
Yeap me too ! I’ll take the peace over it
