You are spot on with the protection given to JB50. Winning the Cup gave him carte blanche and he finds himself out of position a lot of times and is very susceptible to back door plays. StL fans LOVE to place the blame on CP55 and his play the past several years. Before that it was AP27's fault and JBow19 who were the scape goats on the D-line. After the winning the Cup, their core d-men have only gotten smaller - up until this season. Faulk, Krug and now traded Perunovich are all undersized, offensive minded d-men and they got out muscled the past couple of years. Suter has been surprisingly good? decent? Better than advertised we'll say. And it's hard to believe that Fowler was a throw in for the Trouba trade and NYR said "no thanks". The Central is tough and winning a WC2 slot to wind up against Vegas isn't going to work out well for any team that makes it.
Unless they win the next 4-5 games, they should just start playing a bunch of young guys and sell their veteran depth players. This coming from a diehard blues fan. It's been a up and down season and they show no consistency.
Armstrong has stated that we aren't moving prospects in any trades. We are waiting on our farm system to come up. Armstrong has spoken very highly about dvorsky. Lindstein is doing well on the ahl in the 6 games hes played in. Snuggerud has been killing it in the ncaa. We knew this year wasn't going to be our playoff push. Were looking at 2025-26 and beyond. Would it be nice to make the playoffs? Of course, but if we don't i at least understand it's a transition year still.

Huge Blues fan here , and im not worried. Frustrated yes , because i beleave the teams better then what they've been playing . We're in a 2 - 3 year re-tool currently . Selling would be idiotic at this point. give bolduc some 2nd line mintues with kyrou and holloway and move schenn to 3rd line center . Allow tucker to play with sutter and learn the leauge from a 22 year vet . Next year bring theo up and pair him with tucker and let them grow as a pair and learn the leauge together. Snugg and dvorsiky are in the nhl by next year . Put them on 3rd line with schenn . And keep bolduc as 2nd line or swap bolduc and the 2 new guys around depending on whos playing better . But keep the 2 young guys with schenn on 3rd line ideally and allow the team to grow. Alot of young to middle age talent our playoff windows wide open for the next 3-5 years . Only way they correct this thing by tomorrow is getting a 1st line forward , either a star sniper or a legit power forward to put on the opposite wing of neighbors and allow the pf wings to push the net and have thomas dish them the puck ..... Just my couch gm opinion

I think the Blues are gonna sign an elite scoring winger during the next offseason. Utilizing the cap space they just freed up from terminating the Saad contract, the salary cap increasing next year, and finding a way to trade Leddy would help make room for a much needed punch on the Thomas line.
Hoping that dvorski and snuggarud join the team at some point this year. That will speed up the rebuild quite a bit to start in those first few years of limited production

the blues biggest problem is purely that they dont have a "star" player. the blues, as they are right now, are a great support team. but when a support team doesn't have a star forward or whatever to support, it just comes across as disjointed.
The Blues need someone who could occasionally put them on their back and will some wins. The last real superstar was O'Reilly. Thomas doesn't have enough "fight" in him.

Rangers fan here who isn't as familiar with the Blues. From the looks of it, the Blues have some great young talent in Thomas and Kyrou at 25 and 26 respectively, and Buchnevich can be good for 30 goal-seasons. They also have promising young players in Holloway and Neighbors, who could potentially be real scoring threats for years. I think the Blues biggest issue is an aging defense group and lack of good draft picks in recent years. The Blues will benefit from offloading some older players to stockpile draft picks for defensive prospects, and if they can inject some young defensive talent into the roster (maybe bring up players like Dvorsky for more scoring too), they could be a consistent playoff team.
I kind of wish you would have gone a little more in depth with the rest of their roster, the recent movement of Perunovich, and even current players on LTIR. I did not realize that the team doesn't have any 2nd round picks.

Being a mid team all season, It seems like after the Vegas trip their play has gotten worse. I believe it is a player issue imho and not a coach issue. They went through 3 coaches in as many years it seems. Defense needs retooling for sure.

They have been trying to move Perunovich and Saad for two seasons. At some point they are going to have to make a move for a top player, but thats easier said than done.

Yeah, that was a mercy trade. The kid can’t win puck battles and he’s an offensive defenseman who can neither defend nor score on a regular basis. You’d see a hint of his potential, and then he would be -3 that game or the next
Starting at 4:30 when you talk about the Blues bottom six. You hit the nail on the head. All guys I want on the team, all guys that play and work hard. But no scoring. Everything on this team is just good enough but not great and they have hit a wall and the cracks are showing. Also something that’s interesting that isn’t even close to the biggest problem for the Blues is Thomas’s defense. It’s not bad at all, but last year I thought he could potentially be a selke winner in his career,(I’m a Blues fan, so take it at that)but this season he’s almost down in every defensive stat. In conclusion, there is a long way to go for this team, but I feel they are heading in a good direction despite these abysmal 3 games.
Thomas is kind of like kyrou in past years, because of lack of scoring overall. He knows he needs to score so is more focused on offense. When the roster is more talented he will be better.
As a Blues fan I agree we don't really have that guy if you will. And my gut tells me that's really all we're short on. Kyrou, Thomas, Holloway, Buch, Neighbors are great Forwards don't get me wrong. But we don't have the fear/attack guy up front. And haven't since Tarasenko left. While yes Vlady hasn't been great since leaving and he wasn't elite when he left. He still drew the attention on the power play opening up shooting lanes. One guy whom is starting to figure it and could be that guy is Bolduc. He just has to start shooting the puck more!
Decent team on paper but for whatever reason its not working. I don't mind there depth on paper but they cant score, there defense looks fine but they play poorly at times. I'm not sure if this is fixable for this season or not. Shannon says the Blues need a star player, we'll see if mangement agrees and maybe looks at Miller or Pettersson(not saying i would neccasarily agree with that). Personally, I think a 3rd line center similar to what they had with Berglund or Bozak would help there depth alot, but i would reccomend throwing it in the towel for this year and wait till the offseason for that.
Kinda feels like they are being forced into a retool and if they try to fight it, things could fall apart. But they main question is do they want playoffs? Or a legit shot at the cup.

Been saying for two seasons now that I'd rather see the Blues blow it up and rebuild instead of be stuck in hockey purgatory, and that's exactly where they are. I don't think this is a team that just needs a simple retool. It needs a more comprehensive rebuild or we'll continue to be stuck in the same place. All just my opinion, we'll see what happens.
If the Blues can deal some older players and make space for our prospects who are due to come up next season, we should be okay for a push in the next 2-3 years. If Blues can get Patterson for a small piece in return, that’d be phenomenal, but I highly doubt it
Once the roster began transitioning into a more finesse/skill game, they started struggling. Giving bad contracts out didnt help and they're paying the price this season. This won't change, until those bad contracts cycle out...still tho...LGB!
The Blues should be a team in on Pettersson. Their current makeup is exactly what teams don’t want, not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to be a true lottery contender. They have a lot of above average players, but no real superstar to build around. Petterrson might be that. Maybe Marner in the off season but if they can’t get another elite forward, it should be time to fully commit to a rebuild.
It is confusing. It seemed like they were buying with Fowler, and now they let go of Perunovich and Saad for almost nothing. It almost makes me scared that they're clearing room to buy again. I really don't believe that it's worth it as this point
Can the Blues just terminate a contract like it's been stated for Saad? Was it mutual agreement? Is there something else to the story? Can they make a case that's he's not fulfilling his part of the contract? If not, what's the point of signing a contract in the first place?
I couldn’t agree more with what you said about st.Louis they really need a superstar player who produces a lot of points like a kaprizov,kucherov etc player and to me if they got that they would be a playoff team in my opinion the line they have now I see them falling short a elite player is what’s needed
On the Defense I would like to see if Kessel could get some more ice time if needed. Otherwise the players are still new to each other and need time to develop.
Sell the big names like Parayko, Faulk, Krug (just give him away to another team), Buchnevich, schenn.... get rid of them all. 3 years that they wont make the playoffs. Armstrong's "fast LA Kings turnaround" hasnt been so fast.

I say trade sunqvist, suter, joseph, krug, i like Parayko but it seems like he's lost confidence in those sick blueline shots he had, maybe trade him but idk about that.. but yeah, Schenn, Buchnevich, and even Binner tbh.
Kyrou thomas broberg holloway hofer. Everyone else is on the table for the right price. This defense needs a complete overhaul, and if we are waiting for the prospects, it could be a while before we make the playoffs again. Just remove the band aid already.
You got any above average d men you want to lend to FL for a 2nd round draft pick? Fl doesnt need picks they only draft guys that don't make the NHL anyways unless its a 1st round 3rd pick or higher. I would say sell for the blues. Even if they make the playoffs, they aren't good enough to compete with Dallas, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vegas, LA etc. Its not even close. They need a rebuild/reset. No big names. No future super stars. No top line. Maybe a few good 2nd liners and 3rd liners, but no guys that are going to be a winner.
The Blues visually look terrible. They're in a bad spot retool/rebuild wise. Their current core isnt good enough to rely on and the future peices also dont project to be superstar level players. Just good, but not great. I think the path would be to go in on the current rosters. Move prospects for players in their mid 20s.
Blues should move Thomas during the Four Nations break if they're still several points out of the race. He has so much talent, but it's rare that he gives a full effort for 60. Maybe it's his body language, but it looks like it's a chore for him to play in the NHL when he should see it as an honor that few get.

Blues have had a hard time with Utah/Arizona for at least 6 or 7 years.
they also lost all 3 games against the Sharks last year, which is why they missed the playoffs.

I disagree. Thomas is slightly above average, not elite. His numbers are average except Face off wins.

Starting at 4:30 when you talk about the Blues bottom six. You hit the nail on the head. All guys I want on the team, all guys that play and work hard. But no scoring. Everything on this team is just good enough but not great and they have hit a wall and the cracks are showing.
Also something that’s interesting that isn’t even close to the biggest problem for the Blues is Thomas’s defense. It’s not bad at all, but last year I thought he could potentially be a selke winner in his career,(I’m a Blues fan, so take it at that)but this season he’s almost down in every defensive stat.
In conclusion, there is a long way to go for this team, but I feel they are heading in a good direction despite these abysmal 3 games.
Thomas is kind of like kyrou in past years, because of lack of scoring overall. He knows he needs to score so is more focused on offense. When the roster is more talented he will be better.
As a Blues fan I agree we don't really have that guy if you will. And my gut tells me that's really all we're short on. Kyrou, Thomas, Holloway, Buch, Neighbors are great Forwards don't get me wrong. But we don't have the fear/attack guy up front. And haven't since Tarasenko left. While yes Vlady hasn't been great since leaving and he wasn't elite when he left. He still drew the attention on the power play opening up shooting lanes. One guy whom is starting to figure it and could be that guy is Bolduc. He just has to start shooting the puck more!
Decent team on paper but for whatever reason its not working. I don't mind there depth on paper but they cant score, there defense looks fine but they play poorly at times. I'm not sure if this is fixable for this season or not.
Shannon says the Blues need a star player, we'll see if mangement agrees and maybe looks at Miller or Pettersson(not saying i would neccasarily agree with that). Personally, I think a 3rd line center similar to what they had with Berglund or Bozak would help there depth alot, but i would reccomend throwing it in the towel for this year and wait till the offseason for that.
Kinda feels like they are being forced into a retool and if they try to fight it, things could fall apart. But they main question is do they want playoffs? Or a legit shot at the cup.

Been saying for two seasons now that I'd rather see the Blues blow it up and rebuild instead of be stuck in hockey purgatory, and that's exactly where they are. I don't think this is a team that just needs a simple retool. It needs a more comprehensive rebuild or we'll continue to be stuck in the same place. All just my opinion, we'll see what happens.
If the Blues can deal some older players and make space for our prospects who are due to come up next season, we should be okay for a push in the next 2-3 years. If Blues can get Patterson for a small piece in return, that’d be phenomenal, but I highly doubt it

Once the roster began transitioning into a more finesse/skill game, they started struggling. Giving bad contracts out didnt help and they're paying the price this season. This won't change, until those bad contracts cycle out...still tho...LGB!

The Blues should be a team in on Pettersson. Their current makeup is exactly what teams don’t want, not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to be a true lottery contender.
They have a lot of above average players, but no real superstar to build around. Petterrson might be that. Maybe Marner in the off season but if they can’t get another elite forward, it should be time to fully commit to a rebuild.
That contract is so anti Armstrong unfortunately (the NMC and overall structure)
It is confusing. It seemed like they were buying with Fowler, and now they let go of Perunovich and Saad for almost nothing. It almost makes me scared that they're clearing room to buy again. I really don't believe that it's worth it as this point

I would say sell for the blues. Even if they make the playoffs, they aren't good enough to compete with Dallas, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vegas, LA etc. Its not even close. They need a rebuild/reset. No big names. No future super stars. No top line. Maybe a few good 2nd liners and 3rd liners, but no guys that are going to be a winner.

The Blues visually look terrible. They're in a bad spot retool/rebuild wise. Their current core isnt good enough to rely on and the future peices also dont project to be superstar level players. Just good, but not great. I think the path would be to go in on the current rosters. Move prospects for players in their mid 20s.
Blues should move Thomas during the Four Nations break if they're still several points out of the race. He has so much talent, but it's rare that he gives a full effort for 60. Maybe it's his body language, but it looks like it's a chore for him to play in the NHL when he should see it as an honor that few get.

We just need to sell this year. The boys haven't been able to put a run together and their home record is brutal. We have two high end forwards coming next year in Snugarude and Devorsky. And there is more coming in the next two years. I wonder if a team desperate for a cup but weak in goal might go for Binnington because he always heats up in the playoffs.
