The blower motor on my 7 series (1992) was accessed through a panel in the engine bay by the firewall. I thought it was an inconvenient area for a blower but WOW, it's nothing compared to this E60! I'm thankful for the easy access!
Great video, I'm sure it will help the poor owners of E60's who need to do this job. :)

Thank you! I just used this video as a guide to replace the blower motor on my 2010 e61 535i wagon. It has some slight differences but was extremely helpful overall. There were a few connectors that my car had that this one didn’t. Also, the electronic shifter is pretty in the way but if you strip the center console except for the shifter you can get things out without too much trouble.
A word of warning about leaving the key in during this work - the car got mad at me and threw DCS and AWD errors due to too much battery drain. Other people said you have to leave the key in. I saw no reason at all to do this and recommend you do not leave your key in.
Took me about 5 hours overall but I had some things I had to do in between. I also forgot a couple screws and had to do some dissemble reassemble a second time. Ho hum. Great video!

My 2007 BMW E61 520 blowermotor was chirping and whistling like bird and I was sure the bearings were gone. One of my first big repairs on a car, very good instructions. Ended up taking drivers side panel out too to have more space when putting air vents back. Spend close to 8h to this. Got it done what so ever. Also my battery run out so i had to wait to test it. I was really stressed before doing this, now it feels amazing to have it done and working perfectly and saved a lot of money😄
    Thank you for the video😊

Great video. This is my 3rd project for my 2007 530i. 1.Valve Cover gasket and plugs, 2.Oil filter housing gasket, then 3. blower motor that is apparently full of crickets, or so it sounds. 195K miles and still running strong. Just have to maintain them.

Thank you so much for the video! I completed the job today on my 2008 535i. Took me about 7 hours over 2 days but I work slowly. I neglected to remove the inner portion of the air vent which impeded the right side of the tunnel into the blower fan. I should have…much less wiggling and fear of breaking something. I had some difficulty with the rear air vent at the back end of the center console (for the rear passengers)…those vents are attached in a weird way in the 2008, so be careful. Saved a ton of $, even over my favorite indy mechanic.

My 07 530xi manual (165k miles) blower has a bad bearing and is making a terrible sound. I have been ignoring it for months but now that winter is coming I felt that I should look up how to swap it out so I don't get stuck without a defroster when it finally dies.
I have replaced a lot of blower motors, most are two or three screws and possibly a panel-- the e60 blower access is absolutely insane. I have certainly done pain in the butt jobs to replace a small part before, but in this case BMW appears to have given zero thought to providing access to a common wear part. Exceptional video- thank you for providing this guide which will save me hours, I will absolutely buy the parts with your affiliate links!!

What kind of symptoms were you experiencing?
Low miles 06 530xi a/c seems to feel restrictions of air coming out regardless of turning to high with the dial. Only when car has been driven awhile and the outside temp was about 82-85 degrees.
Feels like a damper door has closed a bit but still releasing cold air.
Hour later it had no issue but the drive was short.
    Thanks

RAM TRUCKS they are definitely crazy cars to work on and work with. It just takes time getting used to working with them.

Yeah, my airliner doesn't have a dipstick either. Ha. And the nice thing about the electronic oil level is it throws a caution when you get down one quart out of 6.7, so you add exactly a quart and go on your way. I actually find it more accurate than a dipstick, which can be hard to read on some cars.
