    AOA Sir, I watched your most of the videos, they are very useful and full of knowledge. Thank you very much for providing such precious knowledge.
    Sir, I have a question here. if a power supply is giving approximately 12 Volts and not fluctuating means stable, but we also call these as low voltage because when this power supply was new its adjustable voltages were nearly up to 14 volts. But now maximum voltages are 12 which cannot be increased through preset/adj/. What's the reason of decreasing voltages of such power supplies because when we take a physical examination of each component, everyone is looking good and not damaged. I want to know the reasons of decreasing output voltage and the method to fix it. Thank you in anticipation.

      Wa alaikum salaam dear brother
      it happens most of the time, it causes
      1. leakage in power capacitors, in capacitance meter it will give good reading, but at full rated voltage and continuous operation, it provide internal leakage. it can be examined using ESR meter
      2. due to devalue factor of resistors and their temperature coefficient
      3. sometimes due to leakage inductance of the transformer
      4. in some cases the drop in permeability of ferrite core used in transformer, as it is made by magnetic powder. some materials loose their magnetic properties in percentage, that may cause in loss of conduction and increasing core losses and copper losses.
      5. in some cases cut off frequency of EMI filter involves in attenuation and sometimes it produces ringing factor, that can cause to disturb the current in dc rail
      6. improper design of Snubber circuit may be one cause, when it doesn't discharge the primary properly,
      these are some key problems of loss in power

    On Dave Jones youtube channel (eevblog) and some other channels (Diode Gone Wild)It's been shown that a lot of chinese SMPS they use scraped capacitors from old power supplies, just change nylon shield and put some fake logo like nichicon, but with capacitance way out of specs in terms of ESR and capacitance. It's good to be aware of that and put some tested caps with ESR and capacitance within declared specs (usually +-10% capacitance and ESR of

    Thanks Haaseb for your kind explanations. But there are some times when the fault is way more complex. For example, now I'm struggling with a switching power supply, which uses a MIC38HC42 IC in a very strange configuration. Since is not possible to me to find any schematic application for this IC, I wonder if it would be possible to feed externally to the IC a supply voltage to let it turn on and see if the oscillation is present before powering it with the mains supply. I would like to test it this way to void the blowing out of the power mosfets (2 present) brand new. The lamp trick did not work since even with a 25W lamp is enough to desttroy again the mosfets.

    Sorry sir, I want to ask. when the atx power supply is turned on, the 12v voltage becomes a bit high almost to 13v, and the 5v drops under 5v. I experience it quite often. Problems like this are usually because of what?

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when 12 volt is high, that section is OK
      when 5V & 3.3 V sections are slightly low, that means any one section from these (5 & 3.3) have problem. might be capacitor, rectifier etc. some component is drawing more current.

    • @pakandi9287
      @pakandi9287 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HaseebElectronics when I encountered this problem on a power supply that had a trimpot. I tried turning the trimpot, for the 5v voltage it can go up to 5.1v and the 12v goes down to around 12.3v. so the output voltage is normal, but by turning the trimpot, even though the output voltage is normal, but it can't enter windows. my analysis voltage 5v and 12v are related. what components affect the 5v and 12v output the most? so if 5v is less, 12v is high. if 12v is high, 5v is low.

    The negative side of the capacitor is marked by the striped part on the PCB. Also just check such a thing before removing the old ones.

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are exactly right. but sometimes some designs don't have the polarity marking on PCB, so in that condition we need to follow the DC rail
      and in my experience i saw some PCB's have wrong marking. so it is much better to ensure the positive and negative terminals
      or we can put some identity sign before removal

    My 12v 3.2A sony power adapter is giving 23.2v , i checked every component but didnot find any issue or may be i dont understand whats going on,
    Kindly share me your knownledge regarding this what could be the possible issue that cause smps to output more than rated voltage ,
    (There is a fluctuation of only 0,2 to 0.3v )
    Dear! Do reply me as soon as possible.

      in your situation. it seems there is feedback failure, check TL431 or any reference circuit or optocoupler, that is not acting in close loop circuit
      so it is causing to switch the PWM IC to its maximum duty cycle. please check the feedback circuit
