I agree because i have seen many artists give up just because of a "this sucks" or "awful". That's how artists improve, overcoming their mistakes and haters. And I also agree with having to toughen up. If you can't take even constructive criticism (which I have also noticed) posting stuff online isn't for you. I don't want anyone to take that the wrong way. I remember when I gave a small animator some constructive criticism. I basically said " this is amazing. The only thing you can work on is anatomy and you will gain millions of sub's" and they yelled at me and attacked me through the comments. I tried to explain that I wasn't being mean, they couldn't take it. So what I am saying is: If you can't take constructive criticism or go full on beserk with just a dislike then online posting isn't for you. Constructive criticism and even hate is how we improve. Plus that person who I was talking about constantly reminded others in her descriptions to give her feedback on her art. PastelFluff Kitten I’m not just referring to one person, I’m talking about any artist in general. What I’m trying to say is it’s no use in trying to give an artist criticism if they don’t want it.
People also need to understand that sometimes an artist is not in the mood, or not comfortable to receive criticism on a piece of art. People need to have good common sense, and maybe not criticize something if they think the artist is gonna be really offended by it. Criticism is something hard to deal with for sensitive and young artists, so i think artists should learn how to take it, and people should learn how to give it.
Hnai that is a very good point!! however, there’s always going to be people just there to go “this looks dumb, ur so bad at drawing lolololol” and most of them time their trolls who won’t care about the artists feelings. i want to warn artists so that they understand not to let these things discourage them!! It makes people think all criticism, even constructive stuff like "the faces are kinda distractingly similar on a few characters but it is beautiful otherwise. Maybe change up eye shapes." are insults even if they arent. I hate when people think all criticism is an insult to their art (yes I've had people say that to me for stuff like the example I gave). I think while critics need to be mindful artists need as well cuz too many people put up a wall of "all criticism is rude unless you ask and I give permission or I ask for it!". Like in my school where we've been peer grading for stuff like projects, creative writing, and art since middle school if you said something like that you'd probs get a talk with the teacher. Irl stuff like that won't on your terms but people dont seem to care :/.
Regardless of what people draw, they will always receive criticism. Which means you just gonna have to deal with it and learn from it. I honestly get sick and tired from people who are over protective of their art work or get hurt by constructive criticism, its mind blowing.

I agree that ignoring bad criticism is good advice, but it doesn't justify the bad criticizer. They shouldn't leave comments like "this art is bad" and "this sucks", because it's rude and the artist has every right to tell them as such.
People need to understand that any art from any high or low artist will have flaws in their art piece.Criticism is good not only in the art field but in all fields of work. It’s a way to improve. The art you drew in the video is really well made, I really like the lighting and the way you shade, but you should try to make the foreheads bigger next time look at pictures of how large foreheads usually are also try to study arms and hands more the thumb on the green character’s hand would look better if it was straighter and the other fingers except for the pointing finger and the thumb should be a little bit longer you should also check out how the legs connect to the hips it looks a little strange other then that your drawing is really pleasant to look at and I hope to see more beautiful art like this from you in the future! ^^ (sorry for my bad grammar) (I know this is kind of old, but I wanted to give the advice anyway)
Just saying something sucks isnt criticism, its just being mean. Saying 'Okay this is awful. The lineart is /xxx/ and you need to /xxx/' Thats criticism.
the example your giving is constructive criticism! constructive criticism tells what the person is going wrong and/or tells them how to fix it. saying “this sucks” is still technically criticism, just not constructive.
I can totally relate to you. I’m an independent artist from the U.K. working hard to promote my music on the fan base. I’d get criticised by a friend of mine that “you’re acting like Cardi B” , your beat is shit and such a soft rapper”. Funny enough, I don’t copy her exact style and I’m just being myself. They’re some rappers who are chilled but some aggressive. Artists are entitled to have their own unique styles they go for. Honestly, I won’t let that affect me as an artist even though I’ve been feeling depressed about it.
The most frustrating thing is when an artist criticizes another artist and not even the artist, but other children start attacking the critic saying that they are rude or something, actually now at this point I'm pretty much begging all my friends to give me critique 😅😅
I'm very open to giving critism to striving artists, but there are many who are so defensive and always take it personal. I was once banned from a discord server because a mod took my critism to heart. I really think new artists have no idea how hard the legitimate art scheme is. I really think it's important the understand their path ahead but they always think I am trying to bring them down.

Over a year ago, a person I followed on social media commented on one of my art pieces, saying my art made him want to kill himself because it was so horrible. I had a huge melt down and I cried myself to sleep for the next two nights. I wanted to give up, however I didn't, and now, a year later, I've drastically improved my art. If you compare my pieces from spring of last year to my recent work, you wouldn't be able to tell they were done by the same artist.

There ARE people that will refuse ALL criticism and they'll just say their art is the best, when it clearly isn't. I have personally met examples of people whose art is evidently bad, but they will block ANYONE that criticizes them. They only want to be praised, when they actually do not deserve it. Um so this is the first time i got criticism it was on sketch So there's this thing on sketch. tells you do to draw something, you draw it and your art might be featured. Someone called my art cancer when I was like 11 or 12. It made me wanna quit drawing but I'm glad I moved past it and didn't stop drawing.
Looking back on it I get why they called it cancer lol.
