Madonna sounds best when she is raw and those early days show her talent as a singer without any professional help or experience she just grabbed the microphone and sang like it was life or death...……. that's why we love her and still do - she is not a perfect singer but you can not deny her the title of a GREAT singer.....
I really enjoy this version of the song. Even though it preceded the album version, it sounds more modern. It's interesting that noticeable electronic vocal effects made their way onto Madonna records decades after this demo.
@@Laidengizer113 aside from the quality of equipment they recorded on, this does sound more modern imo. The vocal effects and arrangement feel less tied down to the 80s than the album version.
The details of Madonna's creative process and her conduct since the early years, hiding recordings ever published. The fans would love the edit of these old songs. Even there's a real concern that much of this material isn't in good condition. Stephan Bray reveals that his studio work of "Ain't No Big Deal" is lost, and he doesn't knows where it is. If someone doesn't compile these recordings, they are lost forever. I dig the New Order reference as this version of this song (always one of my favs from Madonna, and she looks spectacular in the video in that little white dress, writhing about on a street) has a fierce new wave sound. Really some raw sounding gem - listening to the "brushed" version that appeared on her albums ( which sounds lush compared to this) this is just really nice dirty and rough with this girl-flavour only a few could do. Knowing now that Bray had his hands as well on "Express Yourself" awoke my interest for his productions. thanks for the upload.
I came here to say that I am from Brazil and many ads say that Madonna released this song in an unprecedented demo, but we see on the date of the video here is only 11 years old
wow! this is an early version or a ruff draft of Burning Up that she sang with her band The Emmy's in the early 80's, who knew that song would be a hit in 1985 and Madonna would be the queen of pop.
This is a mix of the pop version that Madonna made of this song probably with the bootleg version that circulates on the Internet and some instruments added in post-production. It is evident that the main vocals were taken from the pop version. If you listen the original version from 1981, you'll notice the vocal intonation is different. When Madonna was a part of the band "Emmy", they didn't have female background singers either.
It's interesting to hear this version of the song. I recall the version that Madonna used to do live with her band in about 1980, and the subsequent record produced by Reggie Lucas. There are some significant differences in the lead melody between the old live version and the Reggie version. It appears to me that some of that re-writing took place in the course of making this demo.
After slight Emmy band, Madonna hired her 1st agent - Camille Barbone of Gotham Management. In August 1981, Stephen Bray joined in the studio to record. The 1st demo as a lead singer Madonna included: "Take Me (I Want You)," "Love on The Run", "Get Up" & "High Society (Society's Boy)". Following her contract with Gotham from July 22, 1981, Madonna should charge $ 250 of unpublished recording & $ 500 for each published, plus 3% of the price of each album sold. Between 1980 and 1982, Madonna & Stephen Bray also recorded their own music independently in the Music Building. Some of these appeared in 1996, with Madonna's authorization, an independent publishing Bray - owner of all rights - titled "Pre-Madonna". In the album still has the unreleased songs "Laugh To Keep From Crying", "Stay 81" & "Crimes Of Passion". One of the highlights of the album are the 4 songs produced by Madonna & Bray with them that Madonna got her contract with Sire Records in late 1982: "Ain't No Big Deal", "Everybody", "Burning Up" & "Don't You Know ".
I hear this and I think about early Madonna, living in a roach motel, eating popcorn for dinner and dancing the night away in the clubs...It is also hard to deny that Bray had a huge part of her success in those early years. I hope he made some money off of these tracks, they are as good if not better than her current stuff. Cheers.

I agree. I think Stephen got kinda shafted as far as what he should have gotten from those years, but at least he was smart enough to make peace with her early on and because of that was able to collaborate with her for songs later on like "Express Yourself" and "True Blue" which he definitely made money on.

Not only a demo, but it's also her Celebration World Tour version ❤

the punk rock band was called Emmy...
Yeah

i really want her to do a rock/alternative/new wave album!!
All we need is videos of Madonna singing these demos😍
this will b on the Celebration World Tour
I freaking love this version.
I come from the future, shes playing this version at the Celebration Tour 🎉😎

I love the original, but there's something about this version that makes it my favourite. It has more balls

Wow. This is how this song should be done. It would have been a bigger hit, and would have rocketed Madonna even faster into the pop stratosphere.

Love this version
First song I ever heard of Madonnas in Summer of '83.
Don't put me off, 'cause I'm on fire
And I can't quench my desire
Don't you know that I'm burning up for your love?
You're not convinced that that is enough
I put myself in this position
And I deserve the imposition
But you don't even know I'm alive
And this pounding in my heart just won't die
I'm burning up
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
For your love
You're always closing your door
Well, that only makes me want you more
And day and night, I cry for your love
You're not convinced that that is enough
To justify my wanting you
Now tell me what you want me to do
I'm not blind, and I know
That you want to want me, but you can't let go
C'mon, let go
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
I'm burning up, burning up for your love
For your love, oh
Do you wanna see me down on my knees?
Or bending over backwards, now, would you be pleased?
Unlike the others, I'd do anything
I'm not the same, I have no shame
I'm on fire
C'mon, let go
Do you wanna see me down on my knees?
Or bending over backwards, now, would you be pleased?
Unlike the others, I'd do anything
I'm not the same, I have no shame
I'm on fire
Ooh, yeah, I'm burning up
Ooh, yeah, I'm burning up
Oh come on, oh come on, I'm burning up
Uh, uh, uh
I'm burning up
Ooh, yeah, I'm burning up
Oh come on, oh come on, I'm burning up
Ooh, yeah, I'm burning up
Uh, uh, uh
You know you got me burning up, baby
You know you got me burning up, baby

I like this one better than her album version, I like the more rocker style in this one.
I really like this version as opposed to the studio one. It just has that rock ibe to it and would make a great version to cover in a Hard Rock sound.

This version sounds like it was the inspiration for the 'Re-inventiion tour version' which I think is amazing, it's got so much energy to it!
