I am a dog trainer who desperately wants a parrot, and I absolutely LOVE watching your videos. It's fascinating to get to see the overlaps and differences in training a dog vs a parrot. Love how you explain the concept of pressure- and the absolute importance of finding the right pressure level and not over-doing it- to help push an animal into a behavior you want from them. I've been watching Snake Discovery build their zoo, too, so it's cool to get to see a parrot be trained that I've seen in other contexts ❤️❤️
Yes or medical related in some cases. I guess I’m still not seeing how thats different. My African Gray when I first adopted her 10 years ago was a big plucker. She isn’t any longer. My Catalina Macaw is an overpreener and barberer. I didn’t treat them any differently from my Senegal, a non plucking or barbering bird when it comes to training. There was no “training for pluckers”.
@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 So any ideas how to get my little plucker to tollerate my hand moving after she's stepped up? I've actually given up on step up, I got her to do it after many, many months of work, but the second I moved my hand with her on it, she totally freaked out & returned to refusing to step up with her second foot. I worked with her again, got her confident in 2 foot step up, kept doing it daily for about a month, then tried moving my hand slightly again & again total reversion & refusal, so yeh, I've just given up after persevering for SO long & not getting anywhere, but I really wish she would trust me enough that I could pick her up & move her around, or even have her sit on my shoulder. I know she'd like it if she'd do it, but she's just too freaked out from years of abuse to be willing to trust a human on anything like that, she wants to be in full control of her movements
@@mehere8038 I'm sorry I don't own birds only ferrets and cats, all I can suggest is maybe some safe paste based food so she learns to lick or something?
Omg I'm so happy! After watching bird tricks, one day I came back to watch the same video Jamie watched, and I noticed the handling too. So when I saw the community post about the colab, I knew it was going to be touched upon. Cheyenne never fails to amaze me on how quickly she picks up on things, and Emily and Ed are great bird parents. I can't wait to see more Cheyenne amidst the baby snakes and egg videos this year! Thank you so much Dave, Jamie and Capri! For the amazing content. I've been using some of these principles to also train my dog
Where did you get the chest sweater. I have 2 Green Cheeks that pluck down to the down feathers. And I wonder if that would work as each pluck their chest and then they pluck each others back/neck feathers. We have tried everything under the sun including anxiety meds, $600 laser therapy, Pluck no more spray added to their water dish and on their feathers. Our oldest is also getting mean and when out, she will fly to you and rub her head on your face and hand, but then out of nowhere she will attack me and bite sometimes drawing blood. And if I grab her, she will chomp down on my hand.
Cheyenne is amazing! She's such a fast learner. It brought tears of joy to my eyes seeing her making that first flight from the counter, and so precious to watch her confidence grow, so inspiring! 💛🦜💙
Cheyenne reminds me of my dog: she has no problem doing what she's being asked to do but is just stubborn about trying to do it the first few times. Once you get past those few times they pick up on stuff very fast though. Only difference is my dog will start doing other things i have taught her in an attempt to get a treat the "easy way" vs Cheyenne just chilling on the counter. (the tricks she tries are not always physically easy compared to what I want her to do)
Knowing that she took that flight from the countertop (already watched SD's video) makes watching this even more fun. Go! GO GO! hahahaha she is such a cool bird :D
Omg YES!!! The collab we’ve all been waiting for!!!! She looked SO content towards the end of the video sitting on Emily’s hand! Her reward pathways were LIGHTING UP hahaha, I love seeing that look on their faces and the accompanying body language. So satisfying ❤️❤️❤️
Yay my two favorite channels collab :D I am glad that you helped Cheyenne, I know that Ed and Emily are amazing bird parents but everyone needs opinion from people like you from time to time, and training bird that is plucked so much and not so confident must be harder. I am sad that I can't bring Bruno to you, so you could meet him, but sadly I am from Europe so no way :/ But I am glad that I can ask you for your opinion through an e-mail. I am grateful for all the advice i've got from you, because even though I keep parrots for over 20 years now, I've learned so much with past 9 months with Bruno and watching your channel and few other channels. One most important thing, that changed how quick my quaker got used to me, apart from being hand fed, was the fact that you taught me that leaving new bird for few days alone to 'get used to new place' is stupid thing that results in bird being familiar with everything in the room except you. And of course I've learned few tricks how to remove pesticides from veggies and fruits - my biggest fear with giving grocery store food to my bird - and also you helped me to choose food for my parrot :D And yes, he now think that Hagen Harri pellets are treats and he accepts those as a reward, but Bruno is amazing, he accepts carrot/lettuce/pumpkin seed and other seeds/nuts as a reward, he also accepts voice as a reward, when I tell him 'good bird', he also, sometimes tell 'good bird' to himself when he do the trick. Thank you once more and awesome collab!
I love Snake Discovery! And I also really like this video because while it's great to see you guys work with just everyday people, there's also a lot of really important stuff to learn seeing you work with someone who has some sort of zoology degree that we don't see with other families
