I have noticed something similar in during my time in the US. Mind you it was college sports i attended there. But I got the feeling that in Europe the atmosphere is create by the fans, in particular the "ultras" (hardcore fans) with drums, singing etc. throughout the game, while in the US the viewers get their excitment by a show from down the field (noise measurements, cheerleaders, athem, celebs)

Yeah, basketball here doesn't have a musical element, and the pyrotechnics would never happen. The fire marshall would be like...."Come with me sir." I think the difference is Euro soccer, more alcohol and the centuries old hatred between the cities and countries. lol. Football here has more of those elements but still not that much. It makes a difference when the City is the identity, not necessarily the team. Our cities aren't old enough and have had too much change/growth/ new people moving in and others leaving.

When you asked where was that, Turkey. No, it was in Serbia and Crvena Zvezda Beograd/Red Star Belgrade played. In Euroleague games fans always cheer like this so nobody can hear the Euroleague anthem.
Another fact is that in Europe official fan clubs have a word to say when it comes to club´s structure. But the most important fact is that in Europe the club means everything to the fans. We don´t watch the games just to be seen, we watch the games because we love the club and in a lot of cases the love for the club is passed from parents to their children

Because there is a lot of history in Europe, it transcends sports. Wars, conflicts, uprisings, riots, territories, politics and even religion it's all part of the sport. So you grow passion, love and hatred from your childhood. Sports aren't just sports in Europe and SA, it's life. Let me give you an example. For instance the rivalry between Glasgow Rangers and Celtic in Scotland is rooted in a divide of views in politics, religion and their relationship with Ireland. Or with let's say Liverpool FC, they strongly dislike the Monarchy...or SS Lazio from Italy were/are Nazis. Barcelona want autonomy whereas Madrid/Spain are a monarchy etc. It's like that across all of Europe, not to mention the wars in the past. Clubs hate each other even if they are from different countries...and friendships exist as well between cluba from different countries. Amd it is passed down from generation to generation. Also what will help the US is to integrate a relegation/promotion system in sports, that way the stakes are high each year and you will see passion from the fans AND players will hundredfold.

In reference to red and white fans for which you had to take down your earphones: It's not in Turkey, this is Red Star from Serbia, Belgrade. And don't wonder if noise would have been any louder if we scored, because this was the loudest point of cheering. Point was to mute the Euroleague anthem which plays before every game, and was playing at that point. I guess we succeeded, as you couldn't hear the anthem by a long shot. Also note this game was played in Belgrade Arena which has capacity of around 20000 people and was full to the brim. Red Star main playground was Pionir Hall which has capacity of only around 8000, but makes much bigger noise and shakes more too, due to stands being much more narrow and closer to field. True, this bigger arena is much more comfortable for both players and fans in terms of space and ventilation, but in Pionir you would feel the real deal.

Mediterranean people are passionate people my friend. European basketball is better than American basketball right now. Because the NBA has become a really boring league. Basketball in the US died with Jordan’s generation.

But I feel like this is true for many sports in Europe e.g. in my „state“ in Switzerland we play a lot of ice hockey and literally every game has these fires and stuff it’s kinda funny to see how calm people are in the USA

Though I’m from Belgium I can’t say I like the European atmosphere more. In the USA a basketball game is family event, in Europe it’s a hooligan thing and all about creating bad names destroying stuff and ruining the match.

It's about the game. You are swayed with emotion if you are in balkan basketball game. This is how you should feel. Feel proud of your team and support them.
It's amazing atmosphere. The US game they showed was just a snore fest.

Wait till you see the football fans in Europe lmao. Don’t get me wrong the basketball fans are insane but the football fans are just a bigger mass. Imagine this in 70000 seats stadium

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

american fans go to the game as if they are watching a romantic movie on tv
but the european basketball fan definitely brings the spirit of basketball to life on the court.
In short, the god of basketball is in Europe.

Let's be honest, this type of celebration can be found in Europe, South America, Africa, and the Middle East. In the USA, if you make noise, you end up in jail. For most of us, It is passion, not a business.
I have been to several sports on several stadiums/courts, and I never left disappointed.
I like some Arab African chants, very political against their governments. The lyrics are touching af.

I know at least one pregame song that I think some crowds across the pond would use to get their energy level up even higher....the same song that was used for Greece's journey through the 1987 European Basketball Championships, which was 'The Final Countdown' by EUROPE. =)

Τα δυο πρώτα βίντεο και το τελευταίο ήταν από ελληνικά γήπεδα.
    Aris,olympiacos,panathinaikos.

The stadiums are designed like that to absorb impact think of it like earthquake resistant buildings of it was built too firm it'll crumble against the jumping pressure so they designed it to actually embrace impact in order to not collapse

    Hi
Just to explain a bit :)
First european basketball game was olympiacos ( greece ) playing at home, but the other game was not turkey 😁
It was in belgrade ( serbia ) , crvena zvezda was hosting Cibona ( croatia )
After any years of trying, "the west" talked us into playing in some fictional league, to make up for war, 30 years ago..
On every meet, not just basketball game :D
