To add onto Yu and Rei’s trivia, their English alt voice in PPT2 likely references their swapped personalities while still alive, as Rei is the more outgoing of the two, and Yu is more reserved.

This is a great video for trivia, actually! Besides the Mega Klug art in PP7, which has already been disproved so I'm not gonna comment on... Within my knowledge, the one thing that stands out to me as a little off is that we don't actually know if Sig is the boy left behind when the demon's soul was sealed, or if it was an ancestor, due to the lore being vague. Otherwise, I think the rest of this is pretty solid.
If there's one thing I'm surprised to learn about, it's Arle's spell stutter in the Puyo games, I never noticed that it always specifically occurs on the spell after diacute. That's was a cool fact!

Besides that screenshot being fake, that’s also not Klug’s fate! It can be easily disproven! Sig’s arm turned ‘recently,’ whatever that means. He would’ve not had it as a kid in his chibi form. Satan can also disprove this, as his horns merely shrink and grow. Satan even comments on this. (Also Possessed Klug uses it/its. But that’s just a nitpick.)
A few other people have pointed this out, it appears that is the case. Xkower made an excellent comment (which I've pinned) that clarifies everything.
@@beachedking The whole Sig debacle seems to be an inconsistency with the western localization, if you go the official website for PPT1, they even allude that Risukuma is just wearing a mask so I'd take it at face value. I don't think Puyo Puyo 7 is non-canon, but I guess that's ultimately up to SEGA.
@@mchaosg Sig debacle is indeed complicated, but its actually from Fever 2 where it says it turned recently. In the class journal and I think his flavor text (correct me if I’m wrong with the flavor text,) he says it turned red but it doesn’t hurt so somehow he’s fine with this. Though all localizations say it turned ‘one day,’ in some form or other. One day is past tense, so it’s very confusing, Sig even saying he’s not sure how long it’s been. Not sure what it says in the JP text though.
I think PPT1 is more of a question than a real statement, questioning if its a real mask or not. I don’t think it’s alluding, just wondering what’s up with him.
@@beachedking I guess it's possible that they did change suddenly, like as he ages it would gradually get worse. When I read "changed suddenly" it makes me think Sig is a normal person and then suddenly he's a demon, but it could still make sense if it's just a gradual change and he's always been the demon's body. I guess I'm more confused because, as you said, when Sig becomes a child in Puyo Puyo 7, he still has the demon hand/eye. So it can't be *that* recent.
Bro I didn't even realize the ARS thing, that's sick. Hope you make more of these, all these obscure facts are really interesting especially because of how much of it isn't known to the Western fans.

FACT: Puyo Pop on the Game Boy Advance was my first game I've obsessed with the series during the time I've watched the anime Mirumo de Pon on TV back in early 2010s I believe.

There’s something that has always bothered me about the Puyo series. 20 years ago, I played puyo for the first time on my Grandma’s Mac computer (I was 3). She was not one to use emulators, so she must have found an official/unofficial version of the game to download. Did they have a western release for Macintosh back then? I may be misremembering, but I think it resembled Puyo Sun the most.
I'm not too familiar with Macintosh ports, but is it possible it was Qwirks?
@@mchaosg Could have been, if my memory is a bit foggy. The only reason I doubt it is because I specifically remember seeing Draco while playing it. I could have made up that memory though.
My grandma may have also had a pc, I just know the computer was white like a mac.

12:33 well...given that cobalt is almost universally associated with blue in most cultures, and that strange klug is saying "hydrangea" in the english localization, it is way more likely that the devs are admitting they screwed up on sig's original spell localization rather than them being one step ahead with cobalt also being red in some instances since the lore tie dating back to ppf2 gets less obvious if their last spells do not match, and...strange klug is not saying cobalt instead.
also...why did they even change sig's last 2 spells in the localization?, if it was to avoid the religious implication of "celestial" i can somewhat get it by only changing that one, but they went and changed hydrangea as well, is it because they are plants and therefore implies being more harmless? even if you do not know that hydrangeas are plants then the name by itself sounds way cooler and more aggressive than saying cobalt, and since they didn't follow up with strange klug then the change of hydrangea was for nothing
and...i thought you'd mention that yu and rei's personalities being swapped was referenced in their alt voices in ppt2 just recently
when it comes to arle's madou monogatari reference via diacute...i have no way to prove it but...it seems it got fixed in english eventually, at least from what i saw in this chain video th-cam.com/video/cExJ3J_JqH8/w-d-xo.html
This was fantastic! I've only played the recent western releases on switch ( including sega ages) so this was all really good info. There's so much charm, lore & love that goes into puyo puyo compared to other puzzle series & I can't get enough of it! Just this one episode is already great but if you ever did a follow-up I'd be super down for it. Keep up the great work!

One thing I haven’t seen people mention is that Ringo’s name is shared with the Japanese word for apple, both being りんご (ri-n-go). I think this was intentional because she is pretty much always seen holding an apple. Just an interesting tidbit I though I’d share.
Maguro also shares the Japanese word for Tuna, being マグロ (ma-gu-ro), when he dies he gets smacked by Tuna. His family is also fishmongers.

4:53 this makes it sound like that Compile had never acknowledged this release and that it took 20 years after their bankruptcy for SEGA to bring it out again when they actually had talked about it in a Compile Club Underground magazine. This is such a well made video! Loved watching it :)
Not a correction per se, but just a note. I'm not sure if this is the case in other games, but at least in Puyo Tetris 2, Yu and Rei's alternate voices in both languages actually swap their lines, and their personalities/inflections are adjusted accordingly! However, this isn't the case for Red Wisp and Blue Wisp, so the inflections are just changed for those.
Regardless, this could be a reference to their personalities being swapped when they were alive... or I'm just looking too far into things.
Arle's alt voice in PPT1 for me kinda sounds like a modern Silvana.
Regarding the Daicute stutter, I think that her counter spell changes things around. If the counter comes after Daicute instead of Mind Blast, Judgement would be the one stuttering instead; if the counter replaces Daicute, then there's no stutter at all. I'm not actually entirely sure about this, though.

12:03 No, this is wrong (a pretty common misconception!), and the truth is honestly sadder. The mega transformation changes the characters into their MOST DESIRED adult form. So... Klug WANTS to be possessed for the rest of his life. He DESIRES it... And to add, Sig wasn't "the boy left behind" by the sealing, the other half of the demon actually just went on to be Sig's ancestor.

We need definitive English translations for the whole series. Period. You know, PPF2 needs a translation, maybe one day someone will make one for it.
There's already an unfinished fan translation for the PS2 and I heard someone has been making a mod of the DS version, with the characters dubbed.

About 16:55-17:31! If you look at recordings of PPT1 that use the Japanese voices, you'll see that Arle says **"Seino!"** (which is supposed to be her fourth shout) after she uses Ice Storm. This got corrected in the second game, and the translation followed suit with that swap. So it looks like that was a mistake on Sega Japan's part.
Fun fact: this wasn't the first time a mistake was made in Arle's spell sequence! In Puyo Pop Fever, Heaven Ray and Bayoen had their spots in Arle's spell sequence erroneously swapped. Like in the Tetris series, this was ironed out in the second installment. So yeah :)

odd question cause im having a bit of trouble understanding it sig is the other half of strange Klug right? but was his hand and eye always red or not? in this he makes it sound like they were always red but when going thought moments with sig characters mention that sigs hand turned red out of the blue.
It's possible they only started to manifest as he got older, in PPF2 when he approaches Possessed Klug for the first time, both of his eyes become red (and his hand glows).
Black Sig, for what it's worth, has both hands shaped demonically.

Actually, on Ringo, Risukuma and Maguro? Translating Ringo from Japanese to English comes out as the word Apple. Yes, Ringo's name is literally Japanese for the word Apple. Maguro... I think translates to either Tuna or Salmon Roe (Fish eggs/caviar). Not 100% on that but I KNOW Ringo translates to Apple.
Ringo is Japanese for Apple, that's correct. Maguro is Japanese for Tuna, additionally Maguro's family are fishmongers.

The disappointing answer is that that's just how games are made. Many games shipped with inaccessible cut content (ex: the 6th puyo color), because it's simpler to deactivate something than delete it.
