Boombastick!! Really fantastic!!! Not only as for st1300 owner but for every motorcyclist or auto/moto enthusiast !!!! Thank you !!!!!! Really explains why some things are not DIY :(
Two things stand out about these suspension videos. Firstly, the openness of HK to show you the way they work on the suspension, and secondly the amazing proficiency of all you Dutch guys with English! Dankewel! I'm just buying my second ST1300 and I expect to be refurbishing the suspension, I'm very familiar with the fork, bushings and cartridge disassembly but had not considered getting the stock shock rebuilt by a local expert, but that sounds like a sensible investment.
I asked a well known suspension guy here Australia about rebuilding my rear shock for my ST1300, he told you can’t get parts & it’s not serviceable. He wanted to sell me a new shock & spring. I didn’t fall for his advice because I’ve seen your specialist do it so easily.
REALY, REALY good episode guys. Keep up good work. It's bad that I live in Canada we have an oceaon between us! As far as I am, you have a big fan in the canadian winter (-28c tonight) :)
Ik zal ze de groetjes doen als ik in maart bij ze langs ga voor de tweejaarlijkse olieverversing/controle beurt. Nog elke dag blij dat ik mijn ST1100 en mijn centjes naar HK in Tiel heb gebracht!
The only way to get the correct rider sag with a stock ST1300 shock is to weigh about 150 lbs and remove all luggage. Like the bike and rider in the video. No panniers and no top box though the example is fitted with a plate to mount a touring top box. If the bike is configured with luggage and the rider is 180 lbs or more it might be possible to crank in enough preload to set rider sag at 30 - 35 mm but then the static sag will be much less than 10 mm and depending on rider weight there will be zero static sag and the shock will top out without a rider onboard. All this indicates that the stock spring is much too soft for average riders and all riders with a passenger. The ST1300 is let down by the stock suspension which is a shame because the V4 is a gem and the wind protection is very good. I owned two ST1300s and one I logged 180,000 miles on the odometer. I'm a bit less than 150 lbs in street clothes. To fix the suspension Racetech revalved a stock shock for me while I added preload in the forks to set the correct sag.
Ben inmiddels op locatie. Je krijgt de groeten terug en je wordt bedankt! Hehehehe ze hebben het inmiddels stervensdruk. 4 weken wachttijd. Benieuwd hoe dat zo is gekomen. ;-)
Hello. Nice job. I want to check the two rear Sowa shock absorbers of my CB 1300 year 2006. But I don't know the Nitrogen pressure they carry. Do you know how much they carry? Thank you!!!!
This is a great video, thanks ChiefPep. I will likely send my shock to you for servicing. One question - if the tube is full of oil how much room is there for the Nitrogen gas - is it a very small amount of gas? Thanks again. Great work you guys.
Hi Chris thanks! I have no idea. I am behind the camera and ask the questions. Edgar is the suspension specialist. I would never be able to do or dare to do this service myself... It's also mentioned in the video: Never(!) try to do this service yourself. It's highly dangerous...
Hi Guys! Very interesting video! But …. please beware of the danger of intoxication by the fluid. It easily penetrates the skin and finds it’s way into the bloodstream. There it will travel through your body intoxicating various organs and tissues. This can lead to cancer, hearth and neural deases. Find out the exact components the fluid consists of and find gloves that are inpenetrable by this fluid. This is applicable to all kinds of oil, grease and other chemicals used in technical workshops. Stay healthy!

Was the Nitrogen valve a modification that was made to charge the shock? How was that done? I’d like to do it myself!
Hello, How much does it cost to redo the rear shock absorber Honda ST 1300 from 2008. And how do I ship it from France? THANKS
You can send a direct e-mail to HK. Refurbish will be around € 200,- ex shipping. But please ask them directly (mention Chiefpep in your E-mail)
