the message that I caught from this song (this is not a theory about what's the song about, just the message that I caught when hearing this): you shouldn't gave up your life no matter what situation it is. There are people who love and care about you and even though you think that you're unwanted Life is still a precious and priceless gift, you shouldn't just gave up on it.

I really like how this tells the story. the PV is gorgeous, the music is really lovely and despite it's quite long I wanted to continue watching. the lyrics don't sound like lyrics but strangely you made them fit really nicely in the vocal melody. I really like this piece.

I thought this song ended well until I realised, after several years of listening to it, that the ending doesn't feel so happy anymore...
The boy at the end kinda made himself alone.
From his point of view, he has two friends, the doll and the robot.
But from an external point of view, it's a boy with a plushie and an electric robot (that has no soul left)
Very bitter sweet
On the contrary, the soul is actually transferred to the little robot! By making the robot smaller, the boy made it possible for the robot to run on the remaining soul still available + electricity instead of a whole human soul. In the last scene you can see the boy walking with a grown up version of the original boy, and also the robot finally singing with him, implying that they're all together now :)

Steampianist I really wanna know who’s great idea it was to make a robot that runs if of souls
I was crying as soon as the second boy found the robot. Then, when the second boy rebuilt the robot and made it run on electricity rather than souls, I started laughing and had an urge to flip off the screen. That was such a bittersweet moment, an anticlimactic end to a story of hardship and struggle, only to be ended with *electricity* . Probably that's not how it was intended, but that's how it seemed to me, a big "F you" to sad stories.
Now I feel bad for thinking that, after reading all of the comments...

the video is just astonishing, and it fits with the song perfectly... The universe, the tune, and the mechanic sounds totally got me falling in love.
Also the idea of having a long song really emphasizes on the fact it's a whole story and not just a random song. I'll probably replay this way too many times in the future.

I love this story, it tells of a robot who doesn't want to make the mistake from his past life, an orphan with a hidden talent and his rabbit plush. Together they help each other and become friends. The moral: Friendships can last with those we have lost and we can make freinds with others who have lost others. Or that is what I think it is
You're one of the few western vocaproducers who can consistently provide varied music, interesting lyrics, and a great PV. Keep doing what you do

I remember watching this the morning it came out. Family friends were in town, so I woke up on the couch, with this in my recommended. I loved it so much that I played it on loop until Christmas. I can't believe it has been almost 5 years since this came out. So many memories.

In a certain world
there was a young boy
who lived with his family
happily and lovingly
you see, this certain boy
is a brilliant inventor
he loves to build robots from scraps
so he often went to the junkyard alone
One Day the young boy went out
To scavenge spare parts in the junkyard
While searching around
He happened upon a broken down robot
but to his surprise
the machine functions still
desperately it teaches out
moving its rusty appendage
then it spoke in a broken tone
"Please give me a new soul"
The young boy was kind an innocent
he agreed to give it his soul
He had another reason as well
he was curious to see
the world through the eyes of a machine
all that was left
was a robot with a doll
is it a robot
that has a new soul?
or was it a boy
who've lost his own

A long time has passed
A sad lonely boy came to the junkyard
Wandering aimlessly until he found
A broken down robot
But to his surprise
The robot functioned still
Desperately it tried to speak
Reaching out to the boy

the boy agree agreed to give it his soul
For he had no friends nor family
the boy felt unwanted
and upon hearing this
the robot remembered a memory

He went home to see his family
in grief, for their lost child
they chased him away
for they thought that
he was the robot that took their son away
Soon the boy grew to despise
and hate his robotic shell

of what he's done
He decided that he will not take the boy's soul
For He does not want the same fate for the boy
and instead he gave the boy his doll and ask to love it in its place
and then he felt his souls fading away.
He was breaking down
Then the boy took the little broken parts
and he built a tiny robot
that ran on electricity instead of souls
and the boy will never be alone again
for he made two new friends
the doll, the robot, and the boy

Anyway, this song really fits your producer name. It's iconic. The mechanical theme flows very nicely throughout the instrumental and the PV and even the way you tuned Oliver.
