    seems like I finally found a good icelandic recipe! I´m so in love with that and miss original skyr and of course skyr cake the most... but I also love how icelandic people pronounce words in english. So thank you in so many ways! 😊🥰

      Glad you like it! I had hoped to find a way to make skyr at home, for all you beautiful travellers who can't get any more skyr in your countries... maybe one day! :)

    I’ve made this cake, but it always seems to loose, not firm enough. Do you have any suggestions? I had it in Iceland and loved it.

    • @IcelandFoodCentre

      I'd say about 5 days in a closed container! Let us know how it went! :)

    Kannski ómögulegt fyrir útlendinga en að gera svið með kartöflum, uppstúf og rófustöppu væri eitthvað?

    • @IcelandFoodCentre
      @IcelandFoodCentre  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Góð Hugmynd!
      Við erum að vinna í því að nálgast sviðahausa, það hefur reynst óaðgengilegt vegna þess að slátraranir hérna geta ekki pantað þetta inn(ásamt sviðalöppum).
      Við munum klárlega leggja í þetta um leið og að sláturhús er tilbúið að láta okkur hafa Hausa og lappir.
      (Svo vantar okkur náttúrulega Eldvörpu, til að svíða! ;) )
      Questions above relates to Svið(Sheepsheads), which is very traditional Icelandic food. Unfortunately we've not been able to source these as butchers can't seem to get them in and we need to go straight to the abattoir. We're definitely looking into getting that done.

      Hi!
      Skyr is a uniquely Icelandic thing, but it’s technically a cheese(skyrcake and no-bake cheese cake is pretty similar, Eh) and as such there’s no direct alternative to skyr.
      However, a cursory google search yielded this!

    We finally got skyrr here in nyc from Icelandic provisions. Doesn’t taste the same though. I think it might be too strong for Americans 😫

    • @IcelandFoodCentre
      @IcelandFoodCentre  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ah, yes, it can be a little rich on the tounge, but when making Skyr Cake you can use flavoured Skyr and add more sugar if need be!
      Don't forget to serve it with coffee as that helps cutting the richness.

    • @Moss_piglets
      @Moss_piglets 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IcelandFoodCentre can I use kefir instead of skyr or will the consistency be different?

    • @IcelandFoodCentre
      @IcelandFoodCentre  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Moss_piglets It would probably be too thin. Unless you can find thick kefir. Greek yoghurt would be the best bet.

      @@IAOIceland1984 Hahaha yes, curious sounds much better! 😁 Anyway, I have been making Skyr myself for a few months. i mixed together (US brands) Siggi's, Icelandic Provisions and Trader Joe's store brand, and use whole milk. The whole trick lies in straining it for around 12 hours. Many DIY skyr-making videos available now.

    • @volkerbeyer2766

      @Lucas Saintier it was more a joke. At the time I was writing this Arla had already Skyr in Germany - and there was a comercial in Iceland where they make fun of Arla "Skyr". Meanwhile there a lots of Skyrs around (but nothing compared to the origional icelandic stuff ;))
