one of the best personal statements i have read on these deep dives. No wonder she got three interviews!! I hope she got in and did not have to reapply
She seems like a great applicant, I definitely think her MCAT score is what hindered her for the MD schools, but her stats are pretty competitive for DO. It's hard to say without reading her secondaries, but I have to wonder if it was a problem with mission-fit. A lot of (not all) DO schools are very mission-driven with an emphasis on primary care and underserved populations, and her activities don't really reflect that. There's nothing wrong with that, she should do what she's interested in, but I think it's important to just make sure that your mission/values align with those of the schools you apply to. Anyway I hope she gets in somewhere :)
I don’t think the issue was her personal statement at all. It was fantastic, she just needs to work on her mcat score and maybe strengthen the upward trend
Hi Dr. Gray, just to make sure I understand correctly, I can take one job and make multiple experiences out of it? For example, if I was a trainer at my job..can I make one section about the work I did and then make a separate activities section as the hours I have done as a trainer? Thank you so much for you time!
Hi Dr. Gray! I'm in the current cycle and not getting any love so I'm wondering about how to classify a massive amount of activities as a non-trad, in case I have to apply again next cycle. I think I tended towards quantity over quality because I just have so many things I've done that I felt were important. I've looked through the videos but haven't really seen anything that addresses my experience. Did I miss any videos that offer that kind of advice or do you have any advice?
Hi Dr. Gray, I was wondering if I can add a story where I was the patient and the doctor had an impact on me and that impact leads me to pursue medicine?
Hi Dr. Gray! Thanks for the insightful and deep dive video. I was just wondering if it's allowed to put one experience into multiple categories. For example in an EAP that I'm applying to there's a Clinical category and a Community Service category. If I currently have 100 volunteer hours at an Animal Shelter as a "Clinical Clerical Assistant" in which I assist and observe the neutering of animals among other things, would I be able to put that as 100 hours of Clinical AND 100 hours of service? Or would I be able to only choose one? I'm not sure how far we are able to stretch things without "lying". Thanks!
Do you also help in dental school application? Your channel been so helpful and I was wondering if you could help me since I am a second time applicant. Thank you
I have a student i am working with that will be a CNA at a nursing home starting June 1st, how can she add that to experiences or should she just talk about the training and her hire date?
Hi Sherry!!! Depends on if she’s starting training June 1st or the job June 1st. If training, would be hard to include anything meaningful but if she’s not submitting the application for a little bit after, go for it!
Is working in a genetics clinical lab not considered clinical experience? I am working as a Medical Technologist now in a hospital and I assumed that I could put it down as clinical experience in my application. Is patient interaction necessary in order to say I have had clinical experience?
@@kaia8561 Not necessarily. The typical adage is "If you can smell the patient, it's clinical." That's why positions like medical scribing are still counted as clinical.
@@itsneuro Yes, but scribes are usually in the room when the patient is going over their history. Something like a receptionist at clinic or a volunteer at a hospital that just gives directions is not clinical. You may be able to smell the patient, but you aren't directly helping with their care. With the original comment, it doesn't sound like she is near patients at all, which is definitely not clinical even if it is in a hospital.
Sun if you have significantly lower non-science grades, it will be a red flag. If it was like one or two low grades in different non-science areas, don’t worry about it.

thanks for the note!
Her physician friend did her dirty by telling her to apply to Duke with a 3.0 GPA and a 501 MCAT score. It makes me think he didn't know her stats.
3.4 gpa?
@@shahbazkhan-mu5fh Same difference.
@lukemiller right im sure you wouldnt mind .4 taken off your gpa. Idiot
@@ShahbazKhan-je7nq bang bang
@@ShahbazKhan-je7nq neither are a 3.9, which is his point
She seems like such a great person and a great applicant as well. This terrifies me since I’m applying this cycle 😭
Have you gotten any feedback from the cycle yet?
Did ya get in?
Wow this was a crazy deep dive... the amount of content you put out daily and the quality of it is just something I look up to and admire!
Probably the biggest takeaway from all of these videos for me: STORIES STORIES STORIES!
Haha love it
Yes!!
Her personal statement i thought was fantastic, i think just the gpa and MCAT!
I'm a CRC as well.. so much thats relateable to my life. Thank you for sharing your app. Best episode I've seen yet
She has a great personal statement

Yup honestly everything looked good to me except MCAT.
I’m glad he gave her a lot of time for questions. Very helpful!
Another great one Dr. Gray. Staying on top of these Ep's as I got into the podcast world a little late but I'm on it now.
Much thanks!!!!!
This interview was so necessary! I’m in her exact same position- CRC experience, gpa, etc
I don’t think the issue was her personal statement at all. It was fantastic, she just needs to work on her mcat score and maybe strengthen the upward trend
Dr. Grey should do a follow up video with all these people 😅 Hope she got in.
My Next Step full exam scores were also about 5 points higher than my actual AAMC exam score.

You can. I would say to not go crazy, but if you feel it would help show something else, go for it.
Do we know if she ended up getting any offers!!?
she just graduated as a DO!

Do you still recommend including study abroad experience? If so, what title would be appropriate? Thanks.
You can. List as study abroad.
Dr. Gray can I put working as a 911 operator as medical/clinical since I was speaking with patients?
Her ps was great

Yes, you need to have direct patient contact in order for it to be clinical.

Does it matter if my overall gpa is a 3.78 but my science gpa is a 4.0

How is this app. a surprise? theirs no need for a deep review. it's clear by the Mcat, GPA, and experience.
