    Just decided to take my MCAT again recently and this couldn’t have been better timed. My previous ineffective methods are definitely the reason why I didn’t get the score I know I can. Thanks Dr. J for this perfectly timed video 🙏🏾

    I got a 511 on my MCAT. As an applicant who really wanted to go to school in California, I thought I was doomed (Cali is super competitive). Ended up getting into 8 schools, 2 of which are in Cali. Testament to how the MCAT score isn't everything. If you get the average or slightly below, just work on becoming the most kick ass human being. Someone that med schools would be stupid to reject.

  • @gioacevedo5

    My goal has always been to go to Podiatry school, which tends to be a second choice for people who don't get in to med school. But the average MCAT score is super low. So as long as I get a 500 I'm good 😅

    • @cja12345

      3.0 gpa is too low for med school unless your mcat score is damn near perfect or you cured cancer. However, someone that cured cancer would definitley have higher than a 3.0.

    just got a fever after hearing about MCAT 😢😭😟Honestly, there's a ZERO correlation between taking MCAT and who's gonna be a good doctor.

    • @tybera1114
      @tybera1114 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      No but there is a correlation between the MCAT and being able to handle the academics in medical school. Medical School has a lot of self-study involved (A LOT). If you cannot study independently or find good study habits and do reasonably well on the MCAT, then why would you be able to do well on step 1? Or your rotations? Or step 2?
      Of course this isn't the whole story, there are certainly whales that "buy" into a good MCAT score and Kaplan and other "pre-med" companies are all too happy to exploit people's insecurities and take people's money.

    • @saralee8996
      @saralee8996 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say there's a weak correlation but not zero. I agree with Tybera that the MCAT predicts if you can handle the workload. The amount you learn in 1 week of undergrad is taught in 1 day of med school. If you can't handle the MCAT, then you're unlikely able to handle Step 1-3. Those students who got lower MCAT scores and couldn't get into a US school usually go to a Caribbean med school. However, many (I would say about half) end up dropping out because they couldn't handle the course work.
