If you take a closer look at the lyrics as a whole, every single line is a double meaning. One explaining his views as an artist, while also speaking through the eyes of the Las Vegas shooter. Every. This song was a masterpiece and I'm more of a heavy metal fan but eminem is one of the only rappers that could have made it as a songwriter in any genre
This song hits you like a punch in the gut. It sounds like some typical "Eminem spitting crazy double entendre bars" and then it turns from just spitting into a story that we all know is real. It's a reminder that this shit doesn't just disappear because the media isn't covering it anymore. You can tell news like this eats at Eminem if he's willing to launch his entire album with a song about it. He's calling us all to action with this. We need to sit up and listen. He's talking about that darkness and he pulled all of us in and showed us how easy it is to pass off that sort of darkness as something else until it's too late. As always, if you see something, say something. It could save lives.
I didn't know what that song was called, but I'd heard it before for sure........but as you typed out the title, I just realized, even that is a double entendre. The sound of silence being the sampled track, while at the same time the "sound of silence" (or people being silent) on gun violence is not fixing the problem the US is facing. ......which leads to the end of the video when he says GO VOTE. Crazy af.
He actually says that there’s “NO SIGN OF MENTAL ILLNESS” and he doesn’t even know why he’s doing it. The shooter by all accounts was a “normal” guy that just had unlimited access to weapons and ammo legally.
Yah, his take on this song's gun control message disregards the song entirely. Spouting off about mental illness being a big issue when having unlimited access to the kinds of weapons that guy had is the issue being talked about was one if the worst takes I've heard about this song.
Yes.. the people are the issue.. but so are the guns... I personally hat guns.. but I also believe you have the right to protect yourself. Pistols.. shot guns for hunting and farmers... but assault rifles and shit.. thats not for protecting yourself. You dont need sniper rifles and AKs to stop from being robbed. Plain and simple
That's because the dude was a fall man..Listen to the shooting..You can clearly a 240B, not an AR with a bump stock, like they tried to say..not even close to matching the fire rate of one.
mmddhh34 i’m honestly not sure if you know this so i would just like to inform you that our of over 14000 murders last year under 300 were committed using rifles and not even all of those were assault rifles. far more people were killed with knives and pistols that any rifle. Please stay informed before supporting any government infringements. There are over 300,000,000 rifles in america owned by over 100,000,000 people, and yet under 300 murders were committed using them
Do you truly think someone does something like this WITHOUT a mental illness?? Did the gun force him to kill people? People hide mental issues all the fucking time, serial killers don't walk around bragging about their homicidal fantasies. If you don't believe the problem is mental illness and evil, I really don't know what to tell someone that can't see reality.
Rappers are supposed to talk about this stuff, real life.... we’re just not used to it anymore because all rappers talk about now is drugs and girls....
"Now I'm staring at the room service menu off a benzo, I can hear the music - continue to crescendo" - was a double entendre because the crescendo is the highest/loudest part of a sound (music) & he's also getting higher & higher off the benzo.
Emin Mahmudov a crescendo is when the music goes from gradually quiet/soft to louder. It's not necessarily the loudest/highest part that's left to the notes.
The emphasis on Benzos is also a play. He doesn't emphasize Valium because everyone knows about his addiction but Benzos are one of the most perscribed medications for people that are dealing with mental illness. You can get a script for it for pretty much anything and they are highly addictive. That is why the cam slow panned over the pills its a shot at big pharma.
The smiling and the giggles at the start and then the shock on his face when it clicks that it’s about the Vegas shooting sums up the emotional rollercoaster that this song is, I’m from the Uk and it hit me hard, can’t imagine how this hits people from the US
I had a dope line like that with a play on bayou When I'm "by you", I slice dudes, like you, From six foot, to five two.. Dump you and your album in the "bayou," cuz when I'm through, Nobody’s gonna find you, Let alone “buy you”.
People with mental illnesses are far more likely to be the victims of violence rather than the perpetrators of violence. In matter of fact people with mental illnesses are up to 15x more likely to be the victims. And people with mental illnesses only account for less than 5% of ALL types of violent crimes.
I was tripping on that too but the first time I played the song I wasn't looking at the images just listening to the words and when I got to the shooting I was like, hol up rewind that shit.
I live in Vegas so I was kind of shocked when I saw this but I really dig the message behind it so it's ok with me #VegasStrong I love Em. He's the GOAT
@@Sereous313 You obviously have no idea about Eminems previous career. He said that in Rap God cause he used that same line all the way back in 2000 in MMLP to see if he could "get away with it" cause the media has been spinning it like hes unpopular. All of you people wanted "Shady back" this is Slim Shady, this is what he does. He said worse shit before this.
@@fishbrainCTRL Shit, I still gotta listen to that song. I had to stop for a minute in the middle of listening to the album because like Kevin Hart, "nooooooo ha... I wasn't readyyyyyy."
So he’s basically telling his story of struggling with drugs and making music while also telling the story from the perspective of the Vegas shooter! Absolutely amazing!
Also I feel like part of the reason he did the parallel with his own experience was show you that you dont have to be mentally ill to be in a dark enough place for shit like this. Em has been in a state where alcohol and drugs were things he turned to but fortunately he has music and managed to find a way out of that darkness. Yeah, people taking actions with these guns are what cause the incidents because weapons require a wielder. And better care for the mentally ill is another discussion but ...'regular' citizens can turn into these tragic shooters and that's the terrifying bit.
@@xxTricky To say it was mental illness is so wrong. Mentally ill people are far more likely to be victims of violence. This isn't a mental illness this is guns.
@@HumanTypewriter if you're hearing inanimate objects telling you to kill people you need to be locked up, if you think wanting to kill hundreds of random people isn't the clear and obvious sign of mental issues you are fucked in the head yourself. I get it, we all suffer so yes if the majority of us are mentally ill but only a minority do these things doesn't mean all of US(I've dealt with depression for over half my life myself) are going to do it, but it is NOT a healthy mental state that leads to this. If it were guns we wouldn't have so many more mass murders from bombs, cars, knives, and bare hands.
He's saying this because the guy did not show any signs, nor did he leave a message behind to explain his motive. He's not saying the guy wasn't mentally Ill or lacked a motive. He's saying there were NO signs. So we end up not knowing why these things happen.
@@xxTricky I wouldn't say that you habe to mentally ill to do such mass shootings. If your life turned against you literally since your birth and you have never had a moment of hope in it you can think of this may be the only way to end your life. And then for most such killers it doesn't matter for them if they kill others' too...
First listen - just thought this was about him getting ready for a show until it suddenly wasn't. So well written... such an important message though, thank you Em.
Max Volume Not to mention that time after time after time seemingly sane people just break and start shooting people. We have to kill the myth that psychologist can tell someone is insane from a 10 minute session. Everyone who met Ted Bundy said he was a nice charming guy. Meanwhile he was bashing women’s faces in.
Jaime actually most of these shootings, the people where diagnosed with mental illnesses. Some of them actually got the cops involved way before the shooting but nothing was ever done about it. So no mental illness is still the main issue. banning guns ain’t going to make crime stop.
thee gamer Not saying to ban guns but limit guns. I believe everyone has the right to self defence but an AR-15 with a 30 round clip is above and beyond. Teachers watch their students 8 hours a day but school shootings still happen. Do a quick google of the % of people who go into the psychological field. That percentage is who you’re asking to watch over the rest of the 300,000,000 people with the potential to own tools designed for mass murder. That sound realistic to you?
Jaime But why not go the rout of protect our self instead of stripping everything away. Why not try that first?why is the only thing you guys can think of is destroying our rights and protection. Instead we are giving the bad guys exactly what they want. They get to keep there’s and we lose ours. I just think my way is safer and makes more sense. It’s as simple as (if you where a mass shooter would you rather walk into a school with an armed guard or a school with a bunch of helpless children in a corner.) like logically my side makes sense. Your side is more of a what if.
thee gamer You realise your side is quite literally a “what if a good guy had a gun” scenario right? I don’t ever believe in banning guns. I also don’t believe anything more than a pistol and a shotgun is necessary for self defence. But man to man if you were a bad guy with the element of surprise are you telling me you couldn’t pull the trigger five times into a crowd before a “good guy” puts you down? Unless you want every man in America with a hand on their grips 24/7 and be on military style alert just in case someone reaches for their hip?
for everyone who doesn’t get the message and still thinks it’s people not guns, listen to the verse at 4:53. “ but i’m a licensed owner, with no prior convictions, so law says the sky’s the limit, so my supply is infinite. strapped like i’m a soldier” He’s not saying guns needs to be taken away, but for the laws to be so bad where it’s that easy to stockpile an armory, there has to be a change. no civilian should have access to military grade weaponry like a soldier does in war.
Davis Friedman The 2nd Amendment shall not be infringed! Just take a look at history and what happens to the people when they get their guns taken away. Guns are not the problem, people are. A gun is a tool, and an inanimate object until it’s used by the person.
Andrey Petrash The second amendment was written when it took 2 minutes to load a musket. And it also says clearly in the amendment “a well regulated militia” meaning that there needs to be more regulations. thanks for bringing up the 2nd amendment though, shows how little you actually know
My niece recently killed her father and mother and she's only 13. It was known that she tired to commit suicide, slit her wrist to the bone. But now she's been sentenced to 35 years in prison
the shooter literally said "no prior" means he's been checked for the arsenal in the room, that means yea ppl dont need rocket launchers to defend themselves
Steven facts. It’s to fight off the government. Literally the second amendment is there to keep our government in check. When they take guns. They take all power.
@@premiumpandagaming Well then, you don't need guns. Again, pretty much the same argument, if the point is in the army "not firing upon american citizens", what's the actual problem?
I'm very pro gun personally, I agree with you about the problem being the people. Regardless, the song pushes a strong point forward. This needs to stop! It's a sad world we live in.
Half right - the problem is people WITH guns. You can't separate them. You may be a responsible gun owner, but you have to take into consideration the range of mental illness. Of course we need to take care of people, but we also need to take the guns out of their hands. A mass shooting every day in the US. So, if you keep guns in circulation, how do you suggest we deal with the people problem, with something as complex as millions of individuals with different life experiences and mental makeup? You gotta look for the solution that will have the biggest impact and save lives as quick as possible, and we can deal with the mental health issues in tandem.
Cameron Crowhurst it’s just like tobacco. If you raise the age to have a weapon people will still get it. I’m 17 and I dip every single day even though the age is 21 now. Guess what? If you take my gun away I’ll either A shoot the officer that tried to take it, or B I’ll bury that thing when they come searching.
I’m pro gun as well and while I understand the idea of wanting more gun control, people are unpredictable and like em says no signs of mental illness. Sometimes no matter what is done you will still never see it coming. That’s one reason gun owners get worried about giving the government the go ahead for more gun control because these situations will always happen and where will the line get drawn on controlling guns before they just try and take them for good. 2nd amendment was made a right for the reason If we ever had to fight against a government and even though that sounds not likely in our age today I still could never fully trust our government. However I do hope for peace and that we can eventually stop the senseless violence for sure.
Mass shootings have a higher percentage of happening in an area with more strict gun laws. There's no true way to fully allow the gun regulations people want without infringement of 2A. It's a very weird grey area. Instead of increasing regulation, what about ensuring classes in school so people can be properly educated at a young age to respect guns (and I don't mean actual guns when they are being taught at an early age, but BB or Airsoft) It's definitely a people problem, but if we reenforce respecting gun safety and when to properly use one at a young age we can curve our people problem over a period of time.
Kyle Ford I respect the living fuck out of this. Even a 22LR for little kids may be acceptable. I say that because it’s a very weak round, and it’ll teach kids how to actually load a gun.
I know what you mean by "it's the person behind the gun" but if you remove the gun, then there is no problem. Being from the UK with our strict gun laws you don't really get mass shootings, granted the UK is tiny compared to the USA so comparing them isn't really feasible... and the fact that the 2nd amendment has been apart of American culture for so long that it'll be very very hard to change anything to do with it. 🤷♂️
Yeah but the UK is notorious for knife crime these days, especially London. Goes to show that even if guns are banned, people are going to still kill each other. Sadly, this is the world we live in.
I get your point and obviously if you break down the statistics, like I said before it's not really feasible to compare the amount of deaths from stabbings in the UK to deaths from shootings in the US, due to the massive difference of population etc. This being said there were approximately 435 mass shootings in the US in 2019 where 517 people died, and 1648 people injured (Wikipedia, 2019). Compared to the 93 people who died from stab wounds in the UK (BBC, 2019). I would fancy my chance of survival a lot more against a knife than a gun.
@@besharpyy3246 part of the problem is that a majority (not all) of the shootings that happen in america are committed with illegally obtained, unregistered guns. People want to hold on to their guns and rightfully so, to put it simple, because they have been around for so long everyone already has them, and it's not going to be the people with ill intend that will abide the law and turn them in. There are a respectable amount of cases (mostly home/store defense) where licensed gun owners saved lives. Unfortunately this was never the case for any of the larger school and public schootings, I'd say due to the fact that most of these were committed in no gun zones. Fact of the matter is, it's not simple, this is an ultimate dilemma and there is no right or wrong choice to be made. Whatever happens will come by force. If the government (which a lot of Americans don't trust) decides to come and get the people their guns, people will resist. Definitely in the south where militias are still a thing.

Talks about him wondering where all of his fans are at. Yet at the same time talks from the shooter’s perspective wondering why the show isn’t full to murder more people. This is crazy
If you take a closer look at the lyrics as a whole, every single line is a double meaning. One explaining his views as an artist, while also speaking through the eyes of the Las Vegas shooter. Every. Single. Line. This man told two stories simultaneously through a single song. Absolutely fucking wild.
The whole song was a double entendre until the end when he reveals his motive
@@DharcKamui the songs incredible, I first listened to it a few days ago without the video, listening to the lyrics I was thinking waaaait what?.. As soon as he said Vegas you just knew what was coming
Anyone else think the Hook “I don’t wanna be alone in the darkness” Is connecting how Em fights that loneliness by going on stage and sharing his darkness with his fans but also the shooter didn’t want to go into the darkness alone so he took people into the darkness with him. Dope. Dark. But dope.
tbh, this is the link that I was missing. you just solved my mystery.
Everything is double, even triple entendre. It could also be that he doesnt want to be alone in the darkness after the mass shooting bc everyones dead, hes alone, get it?

I love what he did with the song “sound of silence” his story telling is on point
What doe you mean ??
Word. People sleep on Em storytelling skills
@Ilay cohen the entire beat is sampled, not just the lyric "hello darkness my old friend"
Crazy af.
@@kingchris20 I didn't even think about that. You're right. Absolute genius
Nobody talking about how fresh that robe is though
or how depressed Em sounds.

At the 1:09 mark he says double entendre 2 sides to the story
I feel like he was talking also about the Benzino situation also, cause he mentions all the magazines

Exactly.
People with mental illnesses are far more likely to be the victims of violence rather than the perpetrators of violence. In matter of fact people with mental illnesses are up to 15x more likely to be the victims. And people with mental illnesses only account for less than 5% of ALL types of violent crimes.

You heard him wrong, he said NO signs of mental illness, no motive.

“I got ammo for all the hecklers” as in heckler and Koch... madness
for everyone who doesn’t get the message and still thinks it’s people not guns, listen to the verse at 4:53.
And it also says clearly in the amendment “a well regulated militia” meaning that there needs to be more regulations. thanks for bringing up the 2nd amendment though, shows how little you actually know
Davis Friedman “Well regulated militia” doesn’t mean regulation of firearms. Clearly you dont know much either.

This song hit hard on another level. A level that only Em can get on.
Damn first Mac Miller album got released and Eminem album drop at the same time!!!
Weve been blessed
Tech N9ne dropped today as well!!
same in canada. very few mass shootings.
