I learned a LOT from this video! I am still trying to figure out low side and high side. This looks like a typical day of falling for me. What isn't typical is someone explaining things so well. "Uncle" Buckin if I remember the things you have taught me I will greatly benefit. Love Hogan in there. He is like a classmate in this school of Wood Smith.

low side=tree leaning over top of you. high side=tree leaning away from you. obvs if you are on a slope the high side is the high side but the theory is that you can better judge your lean when your not standing under it . thanks for the support friend

Been watching Buckin's videos for a couple years now. Subscribed today. Not sure why I didn't before. Can't get enough of them. Tell Ganges to hold that axe tight and swing straight at the target and it won't ricochet off and damage wedges so bad.

    Love Your videos
You explain the dynamics of nature and how to inspect and plan Your cuts.
I am by no means a Lumber Jack or pretend to be one.
We have a couple of really large dangerous trees cut down by tree services that were too close to the houses.
For the nominal fee of $1,500 to $2,000 and up.
I have a couple small Gas Chain saws and even a 40 volt 14 inch Ryobi electric chain saw.
I was surprised at how long the batteries kept cutting.
I am an older guy and do thing in small steps and try to plan things out 10 times before making a cut.
We had a Large Old Oak Tree that the Power company has cut the center of the limbs away for clearance.
Those cuts created 7 Very long horizontal limbs and the last Hurricane snapped one off.
Well, I decided to try cutting the longest limb off that hung over the neighbors fence and shed.
I got lucky and started cutting small lengths of the end of that branch off until the very end was well inside Our property line.
I cut the small branches off and sectioned the main limb so I could move the pieces with My tractor.
I am glad I was really lucky and got all the Large limbs down and cut up.
I still have the main truck to get down but that will be next weeks project.
I learned a good bit about Plunge cutting from You.
    Thanks
    Ken in Florida.

Is the purpose of the bore cut to help maintain the hinge?

    • @mikeiancotter
      @mikeiancotter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well. Sometimes it's nice to just perfectly set up your hinge before you drop a tree. Most people, me included, do bore cuts when trees are leaning forward like crazy. Sometimes it's easier than having to race it. If you don't understand me saying "race it"... Well forward leaning trees can barber chair real easy and honestly it's scary if it's never happened to you.

Seriously thank you for what you do, showing us these situation scenarios and putting these tools in our tool box to help us make better bangs. Ive cut for 30 years heavilly. Before i would of made a deeper open face. Cut the release and pounded a few wedges. Then chased the cut
