The singer himself works in some sort of shipping or trucking industry, he has no artist background at all. Just look it up, he's entirely a plant.

I grew up a metalhead and didn't get turned onto "country" until later as a musician. Some of the best musicians out there make their living playing it and many are metalheads themselves 😅 Pop country generally sucks though there's some okay stuff out there. I think you might find some really good gritty stuff that's "heavy" in its own way if you look into the Texas/western indie stuff. There's some really good classic stuff too.

I lost my little brother to suicide in September 2021. That line hit me hard too. He was 24 and i begged my parents not to cremate him, but bury him so I could go and visit him when I was newly grieving. He had autism so he was mentally closer to 15 than 24. He was a typical guy in a lot of ways and told that a lot of things he did were problematic by everyone. including my feminist mother. He was a hard worker, very responsible, never called out of work, helped pay bills, loving, kind to animals and people that most people don't bother acknowledging like homeless people or socially awkward people, he called his sister everyday and he genuinely cared. I wish things happened differently.

I'm not going to lie that message at 9:22 actually made me cry. I'm actually so depressed every day going to work but I just do it to support my wife and kids and make their lives the best I can. Meanwhile I'm over here struggling mentally cause I'm not doing what I love and really have no energy to even try to invest into myself so that I wouldn't have to go to work anymore.

Pop country generally sucks though there's some okay stuff out there. I think you might find some really good gritty stuff that's "heavy" in its own way if you look into the Texas/western indie stuff. There's some really good classic stuff too.

People in the music industry give me blank stares when I brush off 8 million dollar offers. I don't want 6 tour buses, 15 tractor trailers and a jet. I don't want to play stadium shows, I don't want to be in the spotlight. I wrote the music I wrote because I was suffering with mental health and depression. These songs have connected with millions of people on such a deep level because they're being sung by someone feeling the words in the very moment they were being sung. So that being said, I have never taken the time to tell you who I actually am. Here's a formal introduction:
My legal name is Christopher Anthony Lunsford. My grandfather was Oliver Anthony, and "Oliver Anthony Music" is a dedication not only to him, but 1930's Appalachia where he was born and raised. Dirt floors, seven kids, hard times. At this point, I'll gladly go by Oliver because everyone knows me as such. But my friends and family still call me Chris. You can decide for yourself, either is fine.
In 2010, I dropped out of high school at age 17. I have a GED from Spruce Pine, NC. I worked multiple plant jobs in Western NC, my last being at the paper mill in McDowell county. I worked 3rd shift, 6 days a week for $14.50 an hour in a living hell. In 2013, I had a bad fall at work and fractured my skull. It forced me to move back home to Virginia. Due to complications from the injury, it took me 6 months or so before I could work again.
From 2014 until just a few days ago, I've worked outside sales in the industrial manufacturing world. My job has taken me all over Virginia and into the Carolinas, getting to know tens of thousands of other blue collar workers on job sites and in factories. Ive spent all day, everyday, for the last 10 years hearing the same story. People are SO damn tired of being neglected, divided and manipulated.
In 2019, I paid $97,500 for the property and still owe about $60,000 on it. I am living in a 27' camper with a tarp on the roof that I got off of craigslist for $750.
There's nothing special about me. I'm not a good musician, I'm not a very good person. I've spent the last 5 years struggling with mental health and using alcohol to drown it. I am sad to see the world in the state it's in, with everyone fighting with each other. I have spent many nights feeling hopeless, that the greatest country on Earth is quickly fading away.
That being said, I HATE the way the Internet has divided all of us. The Internet is a parasite, that infects the minds of humans and has their way with them. Hours wasted, goals forgotten, loved ones sitting in houses with each other distracted all day by technology made by the hands of other poor souls in sweat shops in a foreign land.
When is enough, enough? When are we going to fight for what is right again? MILLIONS have died protecting the liberties we have. Freedom of speech is such a precious gift. Never in world history has the world had the freedom it currently does. Don't let them take it away from you.
Just like those once wandering in the desert, we have lost our way from God and have let false idols distract us and divide us. It's a damn shame.

I'm a white dude who became "color blind" from years in the military. It is completely refreshing that millions are experiencing the same reaction to this anthem. I’ve been out 3 years from the Marines and I’ve lost 3 friends to suicide and knew 2 others from my company it sucks how you just don’t know even when I was keeping up with them. There’s always battles when home but your brothers are always a call away
I lost my little brother to suicide in September 2021. That line hit me hard too. He was 24 and i begged my parents not to cremate him, but bury him so I could go and visit him when I was newly grieving. He had autism so he was mentally closer to 15 than 24. He was a typical guy in a lot of ways and told that a lot of things he did were problematic by everyone. including my feminist mother. He was a hard worker, very responsible, never called out of work, helped pay bills, loving, kind to animals and people that most people don't bother acknowledging like homeless people or socially awkward people, he called his sister everyday and he genuinely cared. I wish things happened differently.

Twitter (now “X”) being made a true free-speech platform has accelerated it, as the echo chamber there got suddenly shattered and people began realizing they’re nowhere near as isolated in their thinking as they imagined. Main anchors on Fox and CNN being canned for telling the truth, only to turn around and rake in more views than ever before by simply continuing the same honesty in a private setting gave people hope that others higher up see this too. It’s been slowly, but surely snowballing ever since.

Christopher lives with his wife, their two daughters and their three dogs near Farmville, VA, in a camper he bought on Craig's List, on a 90-acre plot of essentially unimproved/undeveloped land that they plan to eventually turn into a small regenerative farm to raise livestock. Chris’ goal is to give hope to and lift up working-class folks who are struggling daily to make ends meet in this upside-down world. This young man appears to have character and integrity and just turned down an $8M record deal, as major labels are vying to sign him. The fact that this song got over 60 million views since its debut would seem to indicate that the message transcends age, color/race/ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, and even nationality, and resonates with ordinary working folk the world over. This should be mandatory listening for everyone in government, whether elected, appointed, or just employed. Even though "the rich men north of Richmond" is a reference to politicians and “power players” in Washington D.C., and probably to the financiers on Wall Street, it equally applies to politicians and the “elites” anywhere. "I wish politicians would look out for miners and not just minors on an island (Eppstein Island) somewhere" is certainly an indictment of the elites who seem to get away with their crimes too often.
The usual suspects are calling this the new “right-wing anthem,” link it to Q Anon conspiracies, and claim that the song disparages the poor. Ironically, voices on the right criticize Christopher for allegedly throwing his conservative supporters, who are supposedly responsible for his overnight success, under the bus; some even going as far as to call him woke, a traitor, and a sell-out for stating in a video that we are a melting pot and that our diversity is our strength as a nation. This only proves the song has struck a nerve and is right on target. Like Chris, I despise both political parties and their attempts to co-opt and weaponize this working-class anthem to further their narrative. Both sides of the political aisle seem to miss the point of the message which, as aforementioned, transcends age, color/race/ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, and nationality.
People try to interpret Chris’, and other artists' music in light of their own preconceived notions and biases instead of hearing from the artist what he or she intends to communicate. I previously stated that Chris was in the process of re-recording his entire catalog but that was incorrect; Chris (RadioWV) only re-recorded a few of his earlier songs using better audio equipment. I actually liked the simplicity, imperfections, and rawness of the original recordings just as much.

Oliver is lifting our souls in solidarity. Music has the power of stirring our emotions an when you hear such a purely authentic song that honestly addresses the times we’re in it resonates an creates a community.
