MY TOUGHEST SEASON for TRUCK CAMPER LIFE

  • In this week's episode, I have a tough time deciding where to go after my camper pipes froze in the Grand Canyon in last week's video. Many places within a days drive are experiencing freezing temps. Find out where I land and what cool spot I explore. I also share some thoughts on the challenges of winter road life.

If you don’t need the wheel well space you can add insulation and keep your living space warmer and add some protection to your pipes.

    • @robertoxyzzz

Perhaps if she uses PVC as a replacement for the metal pipes will insulate as needed

Don't know where the pipes are freezing. Is it the fresh water tank or the lines leading to the faucet. Probably the lines. If the freezing occurs inside the cabinets, and you are plugged in and/or have enough electricity/battery, put a trouble light with a clip inside the cabinet. Use an old fashioned incandescent bulb as over 90% of the energy used to light the bulb is used to create heat.

    • @trubdour
      @trubdour 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The pipe protection Mr. Pollocko suggests is called foam pipe insulation. It is a hard styrofoam strip that
simply slips over the pipe. Any big hardware store(Home Depot) should sell this. It is very inexpensive and very easy to install. There is already a slit down the length of the insulation so you just have to cut the strip to the proper length and then slip it over the exposed pipe. You don't need any special tools to do this. A utility knife or even a kitchen knife could be used. Not sure if this will cover all the susceptible lengths of pipe because you have to have access to the pipe to slip the foam over it but it is a cheap and effective method. Cheers!

    • @santiagopollocko5494

Actually Sue regular fiberglass insulation to fill space between camper and truck bed to insulate lower camper walls .

So nice to view wild horses and other wildlife. A secret tip for mashed potatoes, just as the potatoes are firming up, add a raw egg and mix it in. It makes a glorious difference. Also, there is electric heat tape in the market that you can purchase and wrap your pipes with to prevent freezing or to thaw out.

I live in Tucson and we love to kayak down the lower Salt River right where you were in this video. In April the Stewart Mountain Dam, just below Sahuaro Lake, is opened up and the river runs for a 12 mile stretch for tubing and kayaking until it is closed off again in October. We see the horses all the time as they come to the river to cool off and eat the aquatic plants. They are humanely managed by the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group, my Amazon Smile charity of choice. That whole area of the state is simply gorgeous. ❤️

I'm so glad you saw those beautiful wild horses. You got some great footage. I've never seen them in the wild. I was terribly naive about Arizona weather when I became a snowbird in 2008. I wanted to use my condo as a base to get out and see the whole Southwest. I soon learned not only how cold it could get outside the Valley, but how much dangerous ice and snow one could encounter at higher elevations. Now I stay in my condo all winter and use it as a base to go to estate sales. Spring and fall are much better for exploring public lands. You'll be dealing with winter every year as long as you remain a nomad, Catherine. Stay south in lower elevations. Lots of national forests and BLM land there that have backpacking trails for your channel. I'm sure you'll do the research and find some great ones. The importance of avoiding severe weather year 'round can't be overemphasized. Ryan Hall Y'all is the best forecaster I've found so far.

I love wild horses! Living in Carson City, NV when around 20 years old, we had open range beyond our backyard fence and would be visited by wild horses almost every morning.
Arizona is a beautiful and unique state. Hard to beat the winters! I live in Prescott, and the last 7 days have been sunny skies and calm winds in the mid 60’s. 🙂❤️

And I have to chase temps! 40F is about as low as I like to go in my small rigs. In AZ I try and stay South of the Mogollon Rim in the colder seasons and North of it in Summer .. Good morning angel. Excellent video Cat. I enjoyed this so much. This was one that I had tears in my eyes at the end. You make me smile and you make me laugh. You have a beautiful soul. Thanks for sharing your life and adventures with us.
I love hearing you laugh. But I need to hear a big full on belly laugh. Would you work on that for me??
I have new neighbors in the apartment directly below me. They're an older couple. Mid 70's I believe. They moved in two weeks ago. And they've already complained about me playing the piano three times. Definitely not music lovers. Our manager Jeff said he told them to buy some earplugs. 😂 I think Liz and Frank and Leah have also had words with them. I'm just trying to be nice. But I'm not going to stop playing to make them happy.
Next time you're at a bakery you need to get some banana bread. I want you to try banana bread french toast. I know you'll love it. And so you know. It's not real maple syrup unless it comes from Vermont. 🤣
You really know how to stack on the suspence babe. Not even a hint of where you're headed next. Okay then. Just be happy and safe
Happy Valentine's day sweetheart. Please know that if I could. I would send you three dozen white roses and a ten pound box of chocolates.

Hi Cat, greetings from a storm-tossed England! Shepherd's pie is made with minced (ground) lamb - hence the name. What you make here with beef is known here as cottage pie, maybe because the browned mash looks like a thatched cottage roof. But whatever it's called, it's yum!

especially the ones where you go hiking and camp out in a tent for a day or so, especially since I don't hike anymore myself being 70+ yrs old now. Watching your videos, seeing the trails and experiencing what you experience is such a pleasure, Thank you so much for all the effort & work you do to produce these videos. I've been traveling for a few years in my own DIY camper Van so when you mentioned the cold in winter time, it reminded me what I do. I basically chase the sun all the time, spending most of my time along the pacific coast because I used to surf when I was younger so I favor the ocean, but when it turns cold during the winter months, I end up chasing the warmer climate and usually end up in southern California where its sunny and warmer all the time. I used to live in Arizona and even though its wicked warm, better stated .. hotter than hot, its wicked cold at night since its desert ... so that's another reason why I don't favor going to the desert to swag over into Arizona or New Mexico in the winder months. Southern California is the best for 3 winter months. There's plenty to do, plenty of places to visit for 3 months in all of southern California so after 5 years of roaming around the 11 western states I have come to the conclusion my winter months will always be in southern California.

Catherine, Yosemite has been breathtaking this last week due to the warm weather. There is still some snow on the ground, no crowds, the falls are flowing, and the Firefall is happening for another week or so. I would e-mail you some pictures if I could figure out how. Lol. If you go in on Hwy 140 along the Merced River, you can avoid the higher elevations and road restrictions.

My brother just turned me on to your channel. I think he secretly would like to see me follow your lead one day after my husband passes. I've spent many years being his caretaker and forfeiting my own time to take care of him. No, it can't be easy out there, but I am going to be ready to check out once this chapter of my life is over. Until then, taking notes and giving thanks for all the blessings in my life. Thank you for your videos.

Come on up to Montana, Catherine! It was a balmy -20F a few days ago but now it’s getting up to the mid 30s. Tshirt weather! Downside is I/you basically have to dry camp. 10 days now with no shower so it gets a bit rough, hahaha. Cheers from a fellow youtubin’ full timer up here in the cold cold north country.

I have been to the Salt River. It is beautiful. One thing I do when cooking in my oven, is to line it with parchment paper, then add whatever I am baking. Makes cleanup much easier. Thanks for the video.
