Yes it's self-defense. She thought that her life was in jeopardy, especially after the stunt at the hospital. Also detoxing from all of the meds her mom gave her would probably screw up her mind too.
If she had the hammer in the hospital sure, even if her mom was abusive, she has intention to scare the mother, she knew what she was doing and killed not out of self defense, her mother was hugging her not attacking or assault, she hit her mother with intention, all causable to put her in jail not to mention she was perfectly sane

@jabressdolath7657 Yes, I should have been convicted. Murder is murder when it's manipulatedly planned. It was in a heat of the moment or self defense.
It probably is, but then again, I'm not sure the dates match up on when this came out but there been a few stories similar that have come out over the years and none get as many retelling as hers did or a TV show after she came out
@@jabressdolath7657yes she should have. It wasn't self defense. She talked a mentally disable young man to do it by telling him that he would be saving her. Now she's out and he's in for life
This episode was inspired by that case I believe, not entirely but it's a known case where a child is suddenly and inexplicably sick, the parents usually are responsible for it, especially the mother as they're seem as the main caretaker for the kids. I've seem cases where they use their "sick" kids to raise funds and use that money for their own (even when the child is ACTUALLY sick), others where they even use them for cloud online, like TH-cam channels sharing their "battle" dealing with a sick child but still "managing" to get through, as a way to get sympathy, money and attention, it's sickening, that's why it's very hard to tell if an account putting sick kids on screen is actually real or not, because of this people, and that lets on people not being sure if it's real and not helping, thinking it's a scam. I think "The Rookie" had an episode similar where the mother was suspected of poisoning her son and he was taken, turns out it was something in the water they were drinking and the son was more inmune-compromised, so he got sicker.
I am also a survivor of Munchausen's By Proxy. Were it not for one of my sisters calling CPS and my biomom's massive stupidity basically handing my dad full custody, she may have eventually killed me too.
It's so sad that the victims get charged after reaching their limit of trauma, yes m*rder is wrong but they need help not jail time for trying to protect themselves
Because most people don't know how to deal with gray area that need empathy and emotional maturity to deal with. They will find one hundred reasons how the victim/murderer could have not done what they did but how the abuses were left unheard will be swept away.

@@RequiemPoeteyes and our laws include the insanity plea and mental capacity to understand consequences which I would think a good lawyer would argue for her case. @SNH1616 I think the detoxing angle might get her a not guilty by reason of me talking defect, but otherwise, like you said, the time for mercy is at sentencing..
" you where safe there" uh clearly not because her mother showed up got in and literally was in the process of trying to kill her before anyone got to the mother
I'm actually leaning that it was self-defense for a couple of reasons: #1: The mother tried to force a hug on her. Any physical contact that's forced on you while you're actively saying no is considered assault. It doesn't say that she continued to try and force the hug on her after the daughter says she wouldn't let her, but look at how the mother was acting before. You think someone saying no would stop her? The word no is a suggestion to people like that. #2: You're right, there is a medical defense to it and it would play into self defense because she was coming off the drugs that HER MOTHER gave her, and being as her mother was saying things like 'You'll always need me', the daughter was afraid of not being hit or harmed, but about being forced back into that drug induced nightmare. As a survivor of narc abuse via a parent, words and tones like those can make you feel severely threatened and in more long-term danger than immediate short-term. You know it's coming. You KNOW it, and you feel a need to stop it.
Damn I remember this episode she did murder her mother but damn she was being poisoned by her for a long time I was kinda sad seeing her get charged even tho yea she did something not so good
In my opinion, it was stupid of her for going back to her mothers apartment while just beginning her detox, which means she may not have the right mindset. So, self-defense not really at most put her on house arrest after her detox and mandatory therapy from a a good therapist for several years and only then will she live a normal life just for her record that she cant have a stressful job since she did this crime and it is a crime under severe mental duress via drug/detox and psychological torment
Isnt there a real life thing that followed just about this EXACT same story. Like a daughter kept sick by her mom and upon realizing shes been poisoned her whole life for the sake of her mom getting pitty and attention killed her with the help of her boyfriend only to be charged with murder and sentenced to like 25 years in prison and only now just got out
@FearMyLadyBits thats not very practical... Once a person goes to the police their abuser might make it impossible for them to reach out again. What if her mother had taken away her computer?
I think the true question at play here is whether her killing her mother was justified cuz it's true she killed her mother but murder is a little bit more abstract simply because by definition it's an unjust killing
