There was a deleted scene where John tells Max all about Antonio and why Maria may have been reluctant to meet with him. How he relates to her due to what he had to go through with May in those 20 years of loveless marriage, and he suspected she's gone through the same thing as he did with Antonio. John tells Max to talk to her about her previous marriage to him.
@@ladyfire44 that wasn’t a deleted scene. She tells Max about the 6 prior times she’s been married and he reassures her that he loves her regardless of her past, and promises not to be the same as those others, and invites her for homemade food that reminds her about being a kid, to which she’s delighted.
Unfortunately self confidence will blow up in their face when majority of women want a brad pit good looking man. Unrealistic expectations on both sides is the problem.
@eb4676 if this was true there is extraordinarily nothing the average dude can do about this, to the point where I barely consider that a real obstacle. More to the point, clearly you have never been in a Walmart
@@eb4676 Yeah, that's not true. Yes, guys as handsome as brad pitt turn heads, and inhabit fantasies....but that's not real life, that's just what people look at. Some women are picky, but the majority want what everyone else wants; love, respect, and intimacy.
He should be every man's role model men in your 20s - 40's take notes this is what makes you a man when you loyaly love your woman and you don't let anything stand in your way.
That sounds great, and the way it should be........but in reality women are not attracted to kindness, or a man who tries to be polite. Maybe a few exceptions.....but most of the time if you try the good/nice guy approach you will be friend zoned immediately. Sad but true.
@@tjhookit That’s the way it is with most women in their 20s, which is a testament to the notion that women emotionally mature before men is a pile of horseshit. Older women tend to be a different story, though Walter Matthau’s approach here isn’t the “nice guy” approach, it’s an assertive alpha approach that’s not abusive. Betas don’t tell off a hostile future mother-in-law like that.
They were planning to do a 3rd movie, Grumpiest Old Men, in which Max and Maria are having their honeymoon in Italy. Marcello Mastroianni was supposed to play Antonio, her latest ex-husband, who contests the marriage, claiming that he and Maria were never divorced. This never happened because of his(Mastrorianni's) death in 1996
Yep. That's the reason Maria didn't want anything to do with Max. Earlier, John learned about one of those failed marriages, being that of Antonio, while he was talking to her at Ragetti's. In some ways, he could relate to Maria because 20 years ago, he was in a similar situation with May. Like Antonio and the other husbands, she was often disloyal and had affairs with different men. Thus, John is able to defend Maria and called Max out for how he's treated her. It was from there, he finally learned the truth about one of her failed marriages, Antonio.
Yep, but Max came through to help him and the tensions cooled. John was finally able to get his marriage in Ariel and have the happy marriage he deserves. Max finally got his woman in Maria
Is it a coincidence that the names of her last three husbands are names of important men in Sophia Loren's life? Carlo (Ponti, her husband and son), Eduardo (Ponti, her son), Marcello (Mastroianni, her partner in many movies). I don't know about Antonio or Fernando though.
Antonio possibly was going to be played by Marcello Mastrorianni in Grumpiest Old Men, so that's the link he was going to have as far as Maria was concerned. He was supposed to contest Max and Maria's marriage by claiming they were never divorced. An angry John teaches him a lesson in pranks that would make Max proud. This unfortunately never happened due to Mastroianni's death in 1996
She was “married “ to 5 men before she met him. She wasn’t jumping from bed to bed with any man she wanted and that’s the difference between her and modern women. She was as truthful about her past. An honorable woman.
We were. Then women claimed that this was “toxic”. Wish granted. Enjoy. As for me. I’m happily married to a woman who loves me for who I am. Don’t give up. Just don’t look where you’re looking now for men like him.
Of the two women I always thought Max did better with Sophia Loren rather than John did with Ann Margret. She was always the better catch and more attractive of the two to my taste!
What a fabulous actor. Miss him.
That's adorable, right there! He doesn't care about her past-He cares about her, & he loves her, too!
That's the way of true love!
That scene in that whole movie was priceless. It’s truly unconditional Love.
He took his hat off. Like a true gentleman.
How does that make you a gentleman?
It does. It shows respect.
The best pair of grumpy old men
"I don't know about those other guys...but let me tell you something about me!"
Atta boy Max! Thats how its done!!!
Such a fun movie to watch. They do not make them like this anymore. 😊
I love that Walter
matthau's character. He is just like me. A kind heart who refuses to take any crap.
What John told Max “will you park that stinking pride of yours aside just this once? You might surprise yourself.”
Truer words couldn’t be spoken. ❤️

Romance aside a lot of single dudes need this level of self confidence PERIOD. Max knew his worth

I hope someday I’ll find a man like him, never once found someone loyal😔
Maria the 2
Sounds like a you problem. You have options and you pick the worst ones? You might need to evaluate yourself as to why you do.

I don't give a damn what anyone thinks, she played the perfect woman 😊😊
She was outstanding !!!!
If I were you, I would've asked her to merry me at once, It's Maria, which is Sophia Loren, for God sakes.. She is the one lady that never ages 👌
Way to tell off Maria's mom in front of Maria Max.
After a life time of dirty tricks between him and John, Max could handle Maria's mother like a pro 🤣🤣
After what Francesca put Max through earlier, he came better prepared to deal with her.

I was talking about Marcello Mastroianni

in philippines, he is known as Eddie Garcia. He just recently passed by the way.
I think he used the same line on Ann Margaret in the first movie.
Mystery stew and jelly sandwiches
I used too worry about old age 😂
You must really like jelly sandwiches
"Yes."
He’s so cute. ☺️
Why can’t men be like this
There are some like this, hard to find!

Stop looking for gold in the trash
Find a guy who has lots of sister's, they trained me since day one lol
Someone is saying that women are not attracted to this. I say that the woman is not for me then.
AT LAST!!! I GET TO WHACK HIM!!!
Max pay attention. That's your soon to be mother-in-law so don't screw up.
Mama, go.

Maria works better with Max because both are equally stubborn and strong willed. It made their chemistry off the charts
looks like he's gonna cheat on Martha like if you know what I mean i bet not even one person will know
Eric Shultz Dennis The Menace
And Dennis will be there with his slingshot
I’m sure plenty of people know but the comment isn’t funny. So.
