I recently realized that I've always sort of done the 80s blush style because I like how it looks on my face, so I hope it sticks around, but if it does't, I'll still be doing it.
I think that Dior blush has a subtle blue hue to it. Like, very subtle. Almost like when they were formulating the color they added a smidgen of blue to it so that when it's diffused the warmer pink color comes forward when you look at it but when it's shadowed the blue is more dominant because the pink is muted. It's like an optical illusion.
I don't think it's that subtle, to be honest. When he applied it lightly at first, it almost looked grey and ghastly. It only toned down a little after he applied more, and it still had a slight blue-grey shift to to it then.
@@shadypalmtree2989 when he first applied it his head was turned so it was shadowed. It didn't start reading pink to me until he did the other side which was facing the lights. The color payoff is very minimal and it might have taken more product to even show up on his skin because of the studio lights and because of how pale the product is. Without seeing it in person I would honestly think it's too light for my skin tone and I make ghosts look tan. 😅
Would love to see you do a full face of Dior makeup - I feel like they've come out with a lot of interesting products in the last few years that are pretty different from what you usually see from luxury makeup brands. And I feel like you'd love the coral version of that blush!
I agree - love their foundations and concealer. They have a beautiful purple shadow palette and nice glosses. I even got sent some of their skincare to review once and was surprised it was very very nice - expensive but nice. Considered asking James about it but it kinda smelled like rose so figured he would not enjoy 🤭😅🌹🥀
@@deecal4104 omg I love Dior backstage and the spray foundation. Dior air nude and dream cushion are great light foundations too. I have that purple eyeshadow pallets of 5 colours along with 4 others and their undercover concealer haha
So glad my blusher placement has finally come back into style. My big old broad cheeks never suited the putting blush on the balls of my cheeks or across the nose placements. I like to do it really high on my cheek bone, half way across and up on to my temple. So much more complementary and it gives the illusion of a lift.
I'd say if you know something works for your face just rock it whether it's on trend right now or not. I guarantee most people you see in your day to day life won't even know that it's not what's in right now. Makeup craze might seem so ubiquitous now because of social media but to be honest it's still quite nieche to be into it to this extent and most people are unaware of the trends.
yessss same I have such a round AF face, even when I lose weight I can't put it on the apples of my cheeks because I'll look fat if I do. but I just don't put it on my temple because who blushes on their temples? lol I only stop on the highest point of my cheekbone
@@josenotmarichan YES!! I don’t remember women putting blush all the way to their hairline in the 80’s! I do remember blush being part of the eye makeup, but then only going up as far as the top of the cheekbones, NOT into the hairline.
@@josenotmarichan I don’t actually put blush directly on my temples themselves but I do blend it up towards the temples. It’s literally just the very faintest of colour (barely there) and the only reason I do that is so it looks blended out. Don’t get me wrong I think the whole across the nose blush thing is really cute on some people, just not me.... I would just look like one big cheek 😂
5:20 brands can’t claim that a product “cures” acne unless they’ve gone through the FDA because acne is considered a skin disease and therefore products have to go down the drug pathway. though brands can be tricky with the language like “prevents blemishes, evens tone, etc” but they can’t say it treats acne

That "Laurel" powder gave me such a flashback to high school. I have always had reddish undertones in my skin so I religiously used Clean & Clear's blue powder to absorb oil and counteract my weird undertones. I found some photos a while back and I look so cakey and slightly dead- which I guess was fine bc I was a goth kid. Such a weird flashback, I can still almost smell it.
Love the blush on you it looks so subtle and I do see purple when you turn a certain way not so sure it would work on my dark skin tone but really nice on you
Thank you! Yea I think the statement “it works on everyone” (can’t remember where I read that) isn’t exactly true. This is verging on grey on my skin! 🖤🖤
The dior blush, according to dior’s description, has “color revival technology”. They say it reacts to the moisture levels of your skin, and “adjusts to your perfect shade”. I’ve seen so many people demo this blush and it looks fine on pale skin… a little ashy on darker skin.
I think they should make a few versions of each blush shade that accommodate to different skin tones and can then properly react to their skin. It’s silly of Dior to think that blush can accommodate for everyone 🙄
This is how all the color changing makeup products aside from lips are, they promise it'll work for everyone, it cannot change to match your skintone, it just changes to a predetermined color. That's how the lips work too, but that predetermined color is usually pink and not super prone to making people look ill or something. But it won't turn to your perfect lip shade either.
I appreciate that you were super clear that the first item was not made for everyone. It just…yeah it’s better to be clear about these things. Love you for that.
I’m so glad you posted! I’m home recovering from emergency ostomy placement surgery/ major abdominal surgery just two weeks ago. I’ve been sad about it because it wasn’t planned and hate the ostomy bag. So your video is an amazing distraction and pick me up! So thank you so so much! Ily ❤️
I've been doing the 80's blush look for a few months now and TBH I love it, it looks so flattering on me, and I love breaking out my more unusual blush colours and really making my look pop.
Giving these products a chance before cancelling them is so wholesome of you. The blush looked amazing on you, by the way. You pull off purple in ways no one else can
I'm an 80s girl, so I love that the blush draping is back. The bolder the better! So glad that the eye makeup hasn't though, (no bright blue Mimi Bobeck 😱 ) it's so much more refined now! Now bring back the big hair and the leg warmers and I'll be in 80s heaven 😁
I love 80s blush. Tried it for a theme day back in high school and fell in love. Sometimes I'll incorporate eyeshadow, blending it up and towards the temple. I did this with a pinkish blush and an orangey blush as the eyeshadow. I still do a more subtle version of 80s blush every day.
I just have to tell you Robert (if you ever see this lol) I have never been more confident in my makeup skills in my life you have changed the game for me! I don’t cake it on anymore I just play up my natural features and though my skin is changing as I get older I’ve never felt more beautiful now that I’ve learned how to enhance my skin and eyes without completely covering them up and changing my face! Thank you for what you do!!! Also you are a precious soul, I don’t find many people that have similar humor to me and I feel like we have the same sense of humor and it makes me feel like I have a friend ♥️ be blessed!!!
I've been doing the 80s blush for years but on top of minimal contour, I've got a square jaw, high and wide cheekbones and full baby cheeks so that's the best way to accentuate the cheekbones, focus on the eyes and draw attention away from the square jaw and chubby cheeks. Sometimes I use radiant light bronzer in similar manner: c-shaped high on the cheekbones and blended through the eye makeup.
I honestly love the infallible powder foundation. With the Nyx poreless primer and hydrating setting spray my skin looked like a Snapchat filter. I have oily dehydrated skin with large pores and I was shook. I know it does not work for all but it’s the one product that does
A makeup artist in my country always use the Dior blush on her clients for engagement/wedding day. She use a peachy muted blush on all over the cheeks and then apply the Dior blush a little bit on the apple of the cheeks to give a romantic look. So I think it's better to use just to add a fresh, romantic vibe, not all over the cheeks..
I am sooo happy that 80’s & 90’s makeup trends and fashion trends are making a comeback! I was born in the late 80’s but I really lived in the 90’s and it’s so fun seeing how all trends come back around after a while 💕
I always use those bright light pink or lavender or lilac shades on myself for that added brightness!! Those are really flexible shades, not just for fair people!! I swear it makes you glow from within 😊
I don't care if products are viral or not. It's funny, if influencers really like a product then they get hate for it, they don't like it get hate for it. I love the KVD Good Apple foundation. I know it doesn't work for a lot of ppl but it made my skin look dewy and fresh all day. You're the best Robert! 🙌🥰
Theresa is Dead absolutely loved it and her up close footage looked great! She's my closest skin twin so I am just waiting for it to come back in stock at Ulta... 😣
I, too, was hesitant that the KVD Good Apple Foundation could POSSIBLY live up to the hype. But it did for me, probably only because of my dry skin. My oily skin sisters had disastrous results with it.😖
I was a teen back in the 80's and honestly glad to see that blush look come back. It didn't really require precision, anyone could do it, and if you messed up, you just carried it up the face like you did. I honestly think it came from 80's drug store blushers being so crumbly and dry that they just smeared all over the place anyways so we did the feathering out to make the fallout look intentional. There wasn't men's makeup back then (except with hair rockers and other select groups) but now I see how great the look is with a beard, I love it even more! Glad you demonstrated it and even I got a few tips on a look I did day for years. 😁😁😁
Grew up in the eighties. I had one eyeshadow quad (all shimmers)+ one matte lipstick from Dior and a random mascara. Dior cost an arm and a leg but lasted for 24h! Foundation was for tanned people in their late 40-ties and the blush trend for the crowd in disco's. I like the blush trend now. Good placement is key though.
I really like 80s blush looks when they’re done well. That Dior blush was lovely, too, and I’m wondering if there’s a cruelty free dupe. I’m actually not one to wear blush except for very specific looks, but that one just gave such a beautiful “bathed in lavender light” effect.
You had me literally GASPING at the idea that Glow Recipe is overhyped. 😆😆😆😆😆😆 Thank the LAWD you started out with it, and stated it was amazing or I might have had to send you a glitter bomb in the mail.
Omg you are so beautiful! As soon as you popped up, I got this overwhelming feeling of joy. I love watching you first thing in the morning, you bring much positivity, to start my day. I love the background so much. The whole aesthetic of this video is chef's kiss 😘 🖤
I saw Dior blush on a woman of color and I was blown away. bought it immediately and regretted it cause it doesn't suit me as a person with fair complection. Then I applied it to the apple of my cheeks the way, which I never did before with my other blushes because it doesn't suit my face structure, and I liked it. it is that one blush that actually looks better on the apple of your cheeks.
Fallout like that is why I wear a terrycloth bib when doing my makeup. I don't have the time or money to replace my clothes and once my face is done, I do not want to jump on the struggle bus of getting dressed and risking a foundation-to-fabric transfer. As ever, thank you for the product reviews and technique tutorial!
That purple eyeshadow really makes your brown eyes stand out so pretty they're like sparkling when you were talking about the 80's blush. Gorgeous eyes
I didn't know that the Dr Jart Cicapair treatment was getting a lot of traction since I don't have TikTok, but the cream from the same line that comes in a tube is one of the most calming and and moisturising products I've ever used. Same with the Ceramidin line. Absolutely love Dr Jart and would 100% repurchase!!

I agree about the dr jart cica one! I am not dark at all (i'm mixed, so maybe a tad bit darker than you), and I was sooooo dissapointed when i used it, i looked soooo ashy
I’m really pale and for me it works great! But I have seen that it oxidize a bit on me after 5 minutes. And after those 5 minutes it looks good! My boyfriend thought i was wearing foundation when I asked him how he was feeling about my makeup that day. But I really can see that it will not work on a lot of people. I also have a very clean skin, only slight redness around my nose and cheeks and that’s it. It surely is not a product that would cover big blemishes or really red skin!☺️

I generally haven't found anything of theirs previously to be worth the $$$ but... Can you do a review of the Colourpop Lush Life palette??? I just ordered it, and I would LOVE to see the different looks you specifically come up with. There are so many options! Love you, Robert!!!
I definitely like seeing makeup removal included. Most of these types of videos are just "here's a look, now go out and do what you do" but don't look forward enough to see that removal is also important. Closing out the day, getting ready for bed, there are important rituals here and everyone does them differently.
Keen to see how you feel about the dior blush... Like I'm not a rich girl and seeing it all over tik tok makes me feel such fomo. 👀 But also, I despise the idea of being a sheep following what everyone is doing, so this is such a great video giving us advice about all these products.
seconding amanda jones, there are plenty of good lavender blushes. clinique, colourpop, flower beauty, skinfood, etude house, and the saem all have lavender blushes at a fraction of the price of the dior one (they're all anywhere from $4 to $12ish)
Nice cool toned light pink blushes are so hard to freaking find and I'm the biggest fan of those. I am quietly hoping that this tik tok obsession with the Dior blush will result in other companies bringing their version of this colour out cause I too don't want to spend that kind of money. It is defo a specific look, not everyone will love it. I think it gives the face a very youthful look though, cool toned blushes were hated by youtube for the longest time but I don't think that's for a good reason at all.
@@amandajones8101 Wet N Wild has this AMAZING pink to purple ombre looking blush. Not sure if it's still around, I've had it for years and it's one of my favorites. I love the dr jart stuff for my super red cheeks. I have extremely prominent rosacea. BUT... it’s so thick it clogs my pores and breaks me out. I have very dry skin and I take very good care of my skin. This wrecks it. But it’s so effective for work or day out. I swear it’s waterproof.
Lol!! I get to hear both Robert and James say my name several times in their videos (not that they are actually addressing me but hey) and I definitely don’t want them to ever stop lmao!!!
I can see why people get excited the first time they try a cleansing balm. I got the Elf one and had to show my husband and 14 yo son how it worked because it was so strange lol. And I'm loving the blush draping trend comeback! Loved it then, loving it again now ❤❤
Robert, when you're using the cleansing balm ... emulsify it into your skin (the way you were) and then give your face a generous spritzing of water. After that it turns milky consistency and that will be what helps to remove the remainder of your makeup. Just telling you because if you miss that step you won't see the full results. LOVE YOU to pieces!
The Oat Cleansing Balm from the Inkey List is my absolute favorite cleaning balm of all time and it's only $10. No need to spend more than that on something you're washing off after 30 seconds.
I wonder how that compares to the cocokind one. The cocokind oil to milk cleanser is the best thing that's ever happened to my skin but it's like $18 for a tiny tube.

Me. This chic. I’m the one who got the wrong shade. And yes, I looked like death warmed over…. And I hated it. It looked and felt like I just dunked my face in baby powder
You're right when you say the cicapair only works for certain people. Thankfully I'm one of those people. I've been using this since way before tiktok made it go viral as I'm a big fan of Korean skincare. I'm super duper pale but I have rosacea on my nose and cheeks. This evens my skin enough to go without foundation, just a dab of concealer under the eyes and then spot conceal and my skin is done. Great for the summer when you don't want layers of product. The color payoff is very minimal and it might have taken more product to even show up on his skin because of the studio lights and because of how pale the product is. Without seeing it in person I would honestly think it's too light for my skin tone and I make ghosts look tan. 😅
That Dior blush has Dollar Tree looking makeup packaging.
Would love to see you do a full face of Dior makeup - I feel like they've come out with a lot of interesting products in the last few years that are pretty different from what you usually see from luxury makeup brands. And I feel like you'd love the coral version of that blush!
I ordered it !! 😝 I will be looking at more of their products for sure!! 🖤🖤
Yes I use Dior make up myself haha
Their foundations are AMAZING!
I adoooore 80s blush. It looks so much better than the dollface look you get from only applying the color to the apples of your cheeks.
So glad my blusher placement has finally come back into style. My big old broad cheeks never suited the putting blush on the balls of my cheeks or across the nose placements. I like to do it really high on my cheek bone, half way across and up on to my temple. So much more complementary and it gives the illusion of a lift.
I second that. I have full cheeks and putting it on the apples of my cheeks makes my face look bigger.
Glad to see I’m not the only one that does it to compliment their face shape rather than what’s in fashion.
Cure vs treat are very different especially if they have ingredients that are approved (i.e. salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide)
As soon as you start talking my 8 month old is just all giggles. I think she has a crush 😂
"I'm not a skincare person so I don't know much about it"

That "Laurel" powder gave me such a flashback to high school. I have always had reddish undertones in my skin so I religiously used Clean & Clear's blue powder to absorb oil and counteract my weird undertones. I found some photos a while back and I look so cakey and slightly dead- which I guess was fine bc I was a goth kid. Such a weird flashback, I can still almost smell it.
As someone who goes HAM on blush and has enjoyed drapey blush looks, I'm so excited if the full on 80s blush look gets popular.
@@PennyWenny224 literally like a couple more shades wouldnt hurt
This is how all the color changing makeup products aside from lips are, they promise it'll work for everyone, it cannot change to match your skintone, it just changes to a predetermined color.
That's how the lips work too, but that predetermined color is usually pink and not super prone to making people look ill or something. But it won't turn to your perfect lip shade either.
I appreciate that you were super clear that the first item was not made for everyone. It just…yeah it’s better to be clear about these things. Love you for that.
Yesssss. Been wanting a reliable review on the Juno and co. cleansing balm.
I love it. It’s cheap and works as well as the expensive stuff

Me: that blush looks looks dead body purple
Robert: “is it purple? Do I like it? I think I like it!”
☠️
You went on a JOURNEY with that Dior blush!
I honestly love the infallible powder foundation. With the Nyx poreless primer and hydrating setting spray my skin looked like a Snapchat filter. I have oily dehydrated skin with large pores and I was shook. I know it does not work for all but it’s the one product that does
I also have oily dehydrated skin and I'm thinking to try this powder, I just want a quick application and decent coverage
I was born in the late 80’s but I really lived in the 90’s and it’s so fun seeing how all trends come back around after a while 💕
Oooo what a lovely way to start my Sunday! Hope you have a good day, Robert, thank you for your creative work
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
The good apple foundation is my all time favorite foundation! It’s my daily foundation!
@@trishamarie girl same! I have a ton of foundations that I love but it's definitely one of my favs
Listening to this, every time Robert said drastic I heard Jurassic
Made for a very different video

I really prefer the L’oreal infallible liquid. The powder has that cadaver effect I will avoid whatever the cost.
I just wear a light layer on my T-zone and stay hydrated. I don't need much for coverage and I always use a powder brush so my skin will breathe.
I use that. It works pretty well for me. Definitely helps when I may get sweaty from the heat or greasy from sunscreen
You had me literally GASPING at the idea that Glow Recipe is overhyped.

I can remember department store MUAs instructing us the bring blush in a “C “ around the the temple to the forehead.
The Ceramidin cream is holy grail for me. Love it!
I love the fact that this 80's blush is coming back, i've been doing my bush like this for a few years now and LOUD BRIGHT pink bushes are so hard to find! I hope brands really get on board and launch some obnoxiously bright colors

I agree about the dr jart cica one! I am not dark at all (i'm mixed, so maybe a tad bit darker than you), and I was sooooo dissapointed when i used it, i looked soooo ashy
It’s disappointing isn’t it!!! It’s a good idea, but needs work for sure!
That blush was confusingly pretty on you, I really liked it
I feel like at Lorrrel they noticed that nobody was buying that powder so they decided to change the marketing for it
I wouldn't doubt that for a second
Love a sheer lilac blush especially when I'm tan, the contrast is something I enjoy - - so I may actually have to try the Dior blush?!?! I generally haven't found anything of theirs previously to be worth the $$$ but...
If you want a semi-budget version Clinique makes a great lilac/lavender blush. There are also a few cute ones on yes style.
seconding amanda jones, there are plenty of good lavender blushes. clinique, colourpop, flower beauty, skinfood, etude house, and the saem all have lavender blushes at a fraction of the price of the dior one (they're all anywhere from $4 to $12ish)
@@justynawisniewska1213 because pastel cool tones don't work for the majority of people. But if you can pull them off it's awesome

Hey, y'all!! Apparently, the Dior blush adjusts to your pH level or whatever that means.
That eye look!! 😍😍😍😍😍 I need it on my face! 😃
That powdered foundation totally has the power to make one look like a vampire if one chooses a wrong shade 😳 The amount of powder flying all over the place is concerning 😟 thinking that most of it will be inhaled 😶

I'm super duper pale but I have rosacea on my nose and cheeks. This evens my skin enough to go without foundation, just a dab of concealer under the eyes and then spot conceal and my skin is done. Great for the summer when you don't want layers of product.
