Id be willing to bet if the 80 point QADi hadnt shown up Hasty Bot would have had QQ on its tray the entire game because all of the single Q leaves are so negative and so playing off 1 Q was almost never going to be the best play.
I do remember a story once about a tournament game where the tiles were not checked beforehand and there were two Qs in the bag. At some point midgame a player was like "DIRECTOR!!! I have TWO Qs on my rack!" The director ruled that the game must go on nevertheless, which is the correct ruling as any game that's started has to proceed with the tiles at hand. I'm sure that player would've appreciated some QQ-leave theory (or, maybe he should just exchange both Qs ASAP, especially since his opponent can now open things with abandon knowing he's stuck with QQ lol!)
@@mackmeller I bet he wouldn't have called it out if he had ZZ instead, lol... And it would be more hilarious if he went on to play something like ZIGZAGS or BLIZZARD with both real Zs.
so, like, does HastyBot even take positional concerns into account when determining leave value or is it just "a single-blank leave is always +26, blank+S is always +34"
The latter -- doesn't factor position or strategy at all, only leave + points. Hence why it's considerably weaker than stronger bots like Quackle championship playe
Hard for me to say for sure as I've only played it a few times, but I feel like classic is more dynamic -- way way easier to play defensively in classic given the smaller board size, and also classic is more dependent on bingos given fewer non-bingo scoring opportunities which makes leave considerations more important. If I played super scrabble more I'd probably discover more strategical intricacies though
great vid! I'm surprised by how defensive you're playing, though. Like turn 18 (ACINI) there are three triple word squares open and a double-double; how bad can opening a triple-triple be? If you do another giant vid it would would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the strategic implications of this huge board.
Thanks! And great question -- the reason I felt ACINI was so dangerous was that the I is next to the double letter score in the 3*3 lane. Bonus squares are always more dangerous when the vowel is next to the bonus square. Super easy for him to play something like ZIPS for 75 there. The triple on the bottom row, for instance, is less scary since he needs a 6 letter word starting with a high point tile (or a bingo) to really hurt me. Also worth mentioning I do have a bit of a lead at that point -- if I was down then ACINI to increase the volatility makes a lot of sense but being as I'm still up keeping things a bit tighter with CAIRN would've been a bit more prudent I think.
It’d be cool if you could play this with an 8 tile rack but it’d probably throw a lot of word study and game balance out the window. Not sure how bingos would work tho

Haha, it's quite possible! That would've been hilarious
There's also the possibility for him to play QAIMAQAM, which is hardly playable in regular Scrabble.
Or QAJAQ which is also barely playable in regular Scrabble, it’s a cool word though
As a programmer: your users will always do weird stuff you didn't expect and your program will break (such as invent giant Scrabble)
You should play scrabble with an 8 tile rack!
Mack be like "I could play OXYPHENBUTAZONE here for 457 points but that's not really a great score." 😃😃
hahah the QQ bug is hilarious. makes sense that nobody ever considered how to evaluate a QQ leave

Once played OARFISH at a15, opp challenged. After he lost the turn, I drew zineb for zineb boarfish for 90 plus.
A15? Isn't that the lower left corner?
or b15 or something

Great game! I was sure the bot had the edge with the time, but you played it very well
what happens when your time runs oit
@@Mizai I'd lose if my time ran out, so not gonna let that happen!
Would be cool to see more giant Scrabble!

Do you think super scrabble is just as interesting strategically speaking as classic?

I wonder if super scrabble with less crazy bonus squares would be cool. 3 letter double double is ridiculous
