I'll copy and paste a comment from another video that used a clip from this one: "For those wondering this is Japanese flat track racing. The guy on the weird looking bike with the shoulder pads is a professional flat track racer, and he's riding a flat track bike, in a flat track race, so yeah, he wins. When you have a dude on a motorcycle with some weird looking handle bars, looking like he came from Adam Sandler, The Waterboy , going up against two sport bikes and two supermotos and is starting in the back, you know you should be worried.
It #5 was set up for dirtrack speedway which is why the uneven handlebars. As it is a lefthand circuit when he punches into the corner his body will always be upright and he has more control as he just demonstrated. Nutty Japanese bikers but method in the madness.
Not worried. You know you are in Japan! Thats what you know. -But actually, i think this could be part of a tv-show, where the participants has placed bet on witch bike-type, or perhaps even well-known rider will win a head to head
I used to live in Japan near this track (kawaguchi Auto Race Circuit 川口オートレース場) and knew one of the guys who raced these skinnier type of motorcycle called "autobike". He said they had one gear, no brakes and can only turn in one direction. They are like nascar motorcycles.
Fascinating, isn't it? Totally different kinds of bikes and styles of riding... racing against each other on the same track at the same time. And it looks like the pole sitter is going to check out on the field... until they reel him in! Amazing stuff -- I had read about this form of racing, years ago in Cycle News, but never seen it. I think there's wagering, too. We used to go to AMA dirt track - my wife (who's good betting on the ponies) offered that it would draw much bigger crowds if you could bet!
In that bike you can't lean on knees. Being too lean these bikes centre of gravity gets much affected by riders weight, unlike all other bikes where bike weight is more than riders.
He personally didnt, the bike is made this way. In Japan you can legally gamble on motorbike races, but it is highly regulated by the government to ensure everyone has the same exact bike. That man is a professional racer in the industry, he does hundreds of those races a month and the bike is specifically designed for the purpose
@dboatrig this specific race was more just for show, to see how other bikes compare to the bike specifically designed for this track with a rider who is a professional who drives said track hundreds of times a week
"Oh! The shame" Number 2 tells himself, after losing a 2.5mile race with a twenty odd metre headstart to The Honey Monster on a skinny bike with dodgy handlebars.
I love this dude, everything about him looks odd, the bike, his pads, the way he is sat, but he is so effective, no hanging off the side of the bike, no knee scraping, not tucked behind a visor, everything screams the 2 road bikes at the front with big fat tyres are going to walk away with this but they both get it handed to them, great video
The 2 guys on sport bikes are professional 500cc and motoGP racers. Those bikes aren't designed for flattrack racing. They might be the best among all the riders in the country with perfect cornering and posture, but on a flattrack race a flattrack bike will always win. (It's literally designed for that) It's like comparing a F1 car to a suburban and claiming the second is better cuz it has more cargo space.
Biggest issue for the road bikes is that they can't get their tires to warm up because the speed is so low. Had they put on road tires, like Michelin Pilot Road tires, they might have actually had a chance. The tires, through the traction control, limits how fast they can accelerate.
it won't be so effective if the race had involved a rigt turn and a straight, but then again, it wouldn't be an exhibition race and not nearly as interesting to watch
People seem to be confused. This is an AutoRace (oval battle) where the GP bikes are actually at disadvantage. In this race Haruchika (number 5) uses an oval racer 600cc custom bike that has no starter and no brakes, the handlebars are asymetrical for better comfort.

I love watching these races in Japan, of course the dude who won the race with that modified flat track bike are the typical bikes that are used. This was just a fun exhibition race.
What are the physics behind this? How is the flat track bike able to corner so much faster than the super sports? Were the super sports really cornering at the limit?
@@oreganorx7 Most likely has to do with the angle of the track and the fact the turns have a longer flater sweep which forces the Sport bike to have to adjust his turn in because if he tries to force a tighter turn he could crash the bike.
Funny story. I watched the exact opposite of this happen at Daytona in the early 90s. Mike Hale, who'd go on to race in MotoGP and World Superbike, was racing in the Sportster class on 883cc Harley-Davidsons. It was a spec class with only certain parts that could be changed out from stock, including tail sections and clip ons. He raced in both the flat track (dirt) and road course classes, but one of the races that year was a hybrid asphalt oval, kinda like this one. It was considered a "dirt" event, so people showed up with their flat track set-ups, but the rules were the same for both classes, dirt or road course. Mike asked if he could use his road setup, and the officials cleared it. He went so much faster tucked in than the sit-up style of the flat track bikes that he lapped all the way up to second place.
@@Don_Melon I don't have footage, it was in conjunction with Bike Week 1992 (my dad thinks), but it was just a regional event. He did it as a "tune up" for the big race at the Speedway, along with all the other road race and dirt track events that week.
FYI this is not a typical race, this is a challenge for different types of motorcycles/riders to go up against a a driver from the motorace's you can gamble on. He showed me his bike - it had one gear and no brakes and barely any exhaust. You could hear the races almost anywhere in the city. People bet on the races like a horse track, which kept taxes low, and there was a summer festival held there for the general public every year.
You never would have guessed a track car like the McLaren Senna would outrun a Bugatti Veyron on a track with many tight curves? Specialists always have the advantage.
@@MoaiHeadEmoji That machine looks like it has really low center of gravity. The other bike are more nimble, but the specialized machine has the advantage. No aerodynamics, but great on that track. But why the shoulder pads?

When you complete all the game, unlock all the bikes and goes play on arcade mode
Saw this 3 years ago, and still the greatest video ever made🤘🤣
Those handlebars are definitely one of a kind.
Designed so they are level in the turns.
That motorcyle is an entire series of racing in Japan. They have motorcycle tracks for them around the country. I lived near this one and knew a guy who used to race there. He showed me his bike - it had one gear and no brakes and barely any exhaust. You could hear the races almost anywhere in the city. People bet on the races like a horse track, which kept taxes low, and there was a summer festival held there for the general public every year.
Nascar Bike. It's only good for left turns.

The yellow guy look like a racer, delivery guy and a football player at the same time
When you just played defensive end in a football game but can’t be late to the Hells Angel bike rally.
‘’Yes, I’m just going to buy milk and come back home. ‘’
Number 5, What an effortless rider!! it was like he ran his wife errand and join this for fun during his way back home.
That's pretty much a speedway bike. Perfect for this tight oval track.
I was thinking flat track, but you’re probably correct
And if you look closely you can see that the Handel bars are modified to make turning more comfortable
3:52 has the best moment, when #2 is just shaking his head in confusion over being beaten by a funny bike.
I am stoned and this made my day.
All 13 people in attendance loved an awesome race!
So this is what the Power Rangers do in their free time
Good one!
As a biker this is the best bike racing video I've ever seen. That's a top rider right there.
Well, I never would have guessed that guy would win.
Why
You never would have guessed a track car like the McLaren Senna would outrun a Bugatti Veyron on a track with many tight curves? Specialists always have the advantage.
I like how the most efficient type of bike for this track is the most casual looking one :D
I love how he was handicapped at the beginning of the race by being placed at the tail end and he still won.
He had a bike designed for the track
That was the idea
@@MoaiHeadEmoji
That machine looks like it has really low center of gravity. The other bike are more nimble, but the specialized machine has the advantage. No aerodynamics, but great on that track. But why the shoulder pads?
@@mplsmark222 apparently the bike number 5 used has no brakes.
@@mplsmark222 More likely to fall.
Imagine being no 3 at the start blocks, focusing to win and thinking you're the main character, only to get passed by the real main character, realize you're just a filler character with non-coloured hair, experience the dread of completely disappearing from reality the moment you arent on camera anymore and right before you pass the finish line see a youngster in the audience with spiky purple hair clenching his fist and gritting his teeth. What an afternoon.
Perfect aerodynamics for left turns the handle bar displacement, foot pegs, the parachute armor and of course skill.

I've seen the normal races before, where everyone's on a bike like #5. But what's the idea behind racing 3 classes together? Was this a novelty race?
Pretty much.. This is kind of an exhibition race.
@@AbrahamArthemius Yup. Exhibition to settle the “who would win” question for this type of track.
The establishment of the odd-looking protagonist with a lack of context, the simple and nonverbal premise, the surprising yet somewhat expected outcome proving the worthiness of the protagonists oddity-all of these elements makes this a top tier TH-cam video
Gotta love #5 with his old bike, skinny tires and football shoulder pads.
Gonna ask my dad to explain this one but what I'm guessing is that the cornering ability of the superbikes plus their weight was their downfall compared to the lighter greater turning angled delivery bike lol

#2 Nobuatsu Aoki w/GSX-R (left at the front row) ex-GP500 & ex-Moto GP rider from both Suzuki & Proton KR, #5 Haruchika Aoki w/ weird looking racing bike (3rd row, Nobuatsu's younger brother) Ex-GP 125 Champion in 1995 & 1996. With this kind of circuit, 8 bikes like #5 are gonna make 6 laps race. People will bet money on it like horse race. The bike has only 2 gears (one just for start only & another for the rest of race) w/ single pistoned engine (Suzuki provides it as one make). No brake installed for both front & rear wheel. No machanic allowed by the regulation, thus rider have to manage everything. They wear iron made slipper over their left boots. (You know how it works by #5's riding style)
No brakes! Oh hell yeah!
What is it called and where do I find more of this?
thanks for the info, this made me smile and wonder about the bike, not street legal tough :(
#5 looks like a glitch. A real life glitch. Lol

Hah hah!! The guys on the sport bikes were like "What the hell just happened??!!"🤣 That #5 was working hard, even though it didn't look like it. You could see it get loose in a couple of the corners, but his race line was so practiced, and he knew *exactly* what that bike was capable of. With that big single, he probably had half again as much torque as those multi-cylinder bikes and was probably running methanol to boot, seeing as it was set up for speedway racing.😁 Well done, big guy!😉👍👍
He is a legend
hahaha thats fuktup man! I've never seen anything so funny .Reminds me of an old cartoon called the wacky races. He looked like Frankenstein, and the bike looked like it was broken, but wtf! he won!!🛴
Giovanni Giorgio represents his home garage motorcycle build here.
He's also the high school quarterback and uses that banana bike to get to class on time!

I had a feeling they were going to have their hands full with that dude on the 1970’s biker gang movie motorcycle. I’m glad he won. Cool race.
Those dudes spend crazy money on bikes and equipment…. And lost to a low budget rider in a homemade motorcycle!!! Honestly we need more of this
It's actually not a low budget rider on a homemade motorcycle- It's an expensive, specialty built motorcycle meant for "Auto Races" which are a popular form of racing that is gambled upon in japan. Considering they are at an Auto Race track, I would assume the rider of said bike is also a full time professional at what he does. It's a super fascinating form of motorsport, I definitely recommend looking deeper into it.

Absolutely right
Very interesting! I didn't know this kind of bike racing exists, I need to see more now :D

If the sport bike guy had 600 would it a different story. Cause they are lighter and they don't need the extra 50hp and 45-50 lbs from liter bikes. I knee drag on my zx10r it sure feel heavy.if this track has longer straight liter will pull away.
Flat track never thought it would be thanking Daft Punk for bringing awareness to so many people.
