    I owned the Elantra 2013. Here are the things I encountered after 7 years of driving:
    The first few years I had the brake pad issue where it make funny noise when u brake, common issue with Elantra manufactured in 2013. Replace with an OEM part and it worked brilliantly after that.
    On the 6th year, the airbag sign turned on. Bring it into SC and got it changed due to malfunction. Around RM4xx include labour.
    On the 6th year, the front suspension also making funny noise when going thru speed bump and plastic bump. Spent RM2k to replace the entire suspension system, original part.
    On the 7th year, I noticed the alternator seems to produce at half capacity. Not a big issue as it only deplete the battery at a faster pace. I haven't replace the part yet. Stockist sell OEM part around RM600, original RM900. SC charged RM1200 include labour.
    I use fully synthetic oil that last 10K interval but I changed it after 8-9K interval. Changed my gb oil every 20K and brake fluid every time I changed brake pad. Engine and gb worked perfectly until today. But felt vibration after 5th year when engine idle due to harden engine mounting.
    All in all, I am very satisfied with the car. Checked on carlist.my, valuation around 28K while same year Honda City around 35K. Does it worth it? Hell yes! Elantra cruise better at high speed than Honda City with longer wheelbase and wider tyres. Wider tyres make a lot difference under wet condition.

      @Alif Haiqal i used 5-40 fully Syn oil depending on what brand u use but I felt Mobil is the best for Elantra. That cost around 3xx per 4L bottle. Normal service just within 400. I changed gearbox oil every 40K. The rest are wear and tear. Insurance yearly rm3xx with NCD 55%

    We have an Inokom Getz (essentially a Hyundai in a different name)
    Clocking in 310k km (Still counting) in about 14 years . (Engine Overhaul once)
    The ride quality and performance is still superb.
    Maintenance on parts is annual affairs (The most frequent replacement is Engine Mounts and lower arm)
    but for a car that crossed the 300k mark and still coming in a piece. Its pretty impressive.

    Hyundai cars are actually pretty ok in terms of maintenance costs. My family is now having the old sonata NF and the new LF. The NF is year 2008 and have been very reliable since new and recently overhauled the suspension system due to wear and tear. To my surprise, the price for replacement parts are way cheaper than Toyota in the same segment (Camry). The engine have been smooth n quiet so far until today.
    As for the 2016 LF, the car still have warranty covered and claimed a number of parts like sidemirrors noisy, headunit player, rear light, rear speed sensor unit. The car is fine but ordering parts for claim take a long time as the parts are direct from Korea.
    The mechanical parts of both the cars are quite reliable and no problems so far.

My NF the engine only changed the aircon compressor, FEAD belt and power steering pressure hose due to wear n tear other than engine oil changes. Nothing else and the engine is still running smooth with almost 180000km on the clock. The most expensive ever spent on the car was the aircon compressor which was about RM1.8K, and the tyres RM1200 for 4pcs. Nothing much..

      no matter what car u should always service your aircond gas atleast 2 years. over time the oil degrades due to heat expansion and contraction in the system. servicing meaning flushing the old fluid out and put new fluid in. saves the aircond compressor unless u are the type of people who switch cars like switching handphone. then forget it.

    • @HotRod16
      @HotRod16 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somehow my CBU Getz 1.3 have never serviced my AC. Not that I don't want but my mechanics says no need. So I sold the car after 8 years, 1 time GB overhauled(no good workmanship, as it jerks) and have done 185k km on it. AC still from factory. Only replace the cabin filter timely.

    • @raymunlim6097
      @raymunlim6097 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Wang it’s a closed loop system. The Gas won’t degrade over time. You only need to flush out if there’s leakage that needs to be fixed. I agree the oil needed to service but that’s it. The gas that stays in the loop for compression and de-compression doesn’t need to flushed.

    Owned 3 Korean cars.
    i10 - since 2009
    K5 - since 2012
    Sorento (UM) - since 2019
    Just the usual (10k km) servicing and change of wear and tear parts after 5 years (>120,000 km). Maintenance is still way cheaper than my previous Camry, reliability is second to none as there were no breakdowns, or any parts that somewhat broke.
    In other words, how much more reliable can a car be? Those that have yet to try a Korean make are really missing the experience here.

      I previously owned the very 1st batch CBU. Its a compact hatch but very comfortable compare to myvi if you often do highway. Just a bit sluggish for city traffic. For a student is very decent as the boot space is ok for bags, racquets. Maintenance wise I guess is slightly higher compart to Myvi as many parts(at least my time I only buy originals at Hyundai Parts Centre is Glenmarie). Now in used car they have 2 variant, CBU 1.3 or CKD 1.4. CKD is a bit cost down in trims but engine upgraded for Malaysia climate i guess. But nowadays may aftermarket options so could be affordable to run. Fuel consumption is not too bad if you regularly service on time. I actually like it because the size is easy parking but good enough boot space. Quiter drive for crusing, not a sport car.

      It seems like Malaysian car buyers are way too particular about resale value. If it's a car that you're planning to keep for a long time, I doubt resale value matters all that much (Although some argued that resale value also coincides with insurance payouts if involved in an accident. But let's not talk about that point.)
      I think things that matters more for long term car buyers, mainly the maintenance cost and overall reliability. I find that as a valid aspect to consider when buying a car, new and used.
