Damn really wish I hadn’t taken you at your word that it works with new Sony cameras because the Sony a7iv does not have IR remote control and not only did I buy the remote but I also bought CR2025 batteries for it. Misleading video here
@@brianlee206 Yeah, why Sony decided to remove the IR from the a7iv is anybody's guess. Stupid decision in my opinion. TH-camrs should check their facts before making videos like this too.
Awesome ending and thanks for all the “straight to the point” content. Really appreciate that your videos are jam packed with info and not 2 mins of begging for subscribers or long intros
Got this remote off Amazon a while back. Got some great macro videos /stills of hummingbirds I would not have been able to get otherwise. Always enjoy your videos!
Thanks a lot for this!!! I was planning to use that app you recommended (Monitor+) but this will work better for me. Now I have a remote for my A7SIII and A7III.
@@chrisbrockhurst Yes, you need the RMT-845 remote. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/t3Fuoxbv81E/w-d-xo.html. If you find where we can get them, I want one.
Awesome! I have an OLD Sony remote (RMT-835) from a Sony Handycam. Never thought of using it with my A7Siii but it works! Haven't tested the range of functionality but it will def start the video or release the shutter. Thanks! (p.s. love the ending!)
Great content as usual - just bought the non Sony version. Love all the Sony authentic stuff but sometimes ... £9 is worth a punt on the Sony product which is twice the price.
At first I thought you messed up on the ending LOL I’ve been meaning to do a video on this I use the seven dollar one….. it does not work with the A7c. The A7c has no IR sensor in it.
Epic video and tip Chris! Love this one. I've been using another wired remote and definitely needed something IR to be further away from the cam. Thanks!
This is great. Question, if you were standing behind the camera or if you were standing above the camera would it work as well. Or does the remote have to be aimed at the "front" of the camera for it to respond. Thanks so much.
This really is the best little remote had it for years for all my cameras.. even works on my FX3 my newest camera… but for some reason my A7C it won’t work and it came out before the FX3 lol
@@chrisbrockhurst yeah it’s strange! But nonetheless this remote has been a tool I use so frequently!! I thought of doing a video on it but my list is SOO long lol 😂
Hello Chris. I have a Sony HXR MC2500 video camera and it can be paired with a smartphone to use as a remote. Unfortunately, the app for this function really sucks and is a waste of time. Do you (or any of your viewers) know if the remote you are promoting is compatible with my camera? Thank you.
Does it work when you’re not pointing the remote towards the front side of the cam? Was thinking of mounting it to the side handle of my rs2, but not sure if it works like that.
I just checked on Amazon & the price is not $7 it’s almost $30 & the 3rd party brands are under $12 here in the U.S. 🇺🇸 and my question is will all of the operating functions work for my Sony NEX 7? because I am mostly using my camera for video recording & vlogging
Clear image zoom on the A7S3 with only 12 Megapixels? Surely there's some quality loss. I remember that it wasn't advised to use Clear image zoom on APSC Sony cameras either.
I love that ending, lol. So you don't have to turn on wifi or bluetooth on the camera? The reason I don't use apps w/ the camera is you have to turn those on and it eats up battery life. FYI, yes the remote is $7, but unless you have free shipping, the shipping costs more than the unit. So until I have more stuff to buy, can't buy this quite yet. HINT: Amazon gives you a link to this product in the recommended products on the page w/ the Sony branded one.
Is it morally right for Sony to charge $40 for a piece of technology that is hardly more complicated than a toaster just because it carries the Sony brand? Not sure they spent millions on R&D on this thing. It's like Adidas charging $120 plus tax for a Toronto FC jersey that in reality could be sold for $50 or less while still making them a profit.
Yes! Love that remote!! Sony absolutely dropped the ball here, and it’s not just “baffling” it’s outright ridiculous. How can a company known for catering to creators overlook something so essential? The fact that the $80 remote commander for the A7 IV doesn’t allow playback of recorded footage is a massive failure, especially when older, cheaper remotes for cameras like the A9 had this feature. It’s not just an oversight it’s a step backward. This isn’t some niche request it’s a basic functionality that many creators depend on. For solo performers or directors, especially those working with expensive props, intricate setups, and tight schedules, the ability to review a shot without running back to the camera is critical. Instead, Sony expects users to disrupt their workflow, risk their gear, and completely step out of character just to check if a shot is good. It’s a colossal waste of time and effort. Even more absurd is that Sony’s app doesn’t include this feature either. It’s not like the technology isn’t there they’ve already done it in previous products. How they could release a remote for a high end camera without playback support, and then fail to offer a workaround in their app, is beyond comprehension. It’s lazy and out of touch with the needs of their users. Sony makes amazing hardware, but this kind of glaring omission in both the remote and the app is shameful. If they want to keep their reputation intact, they need to fix this, either with a proper firmware update or by releasing a remote that actually serves the needs of their professional customers. As it stands, they’re making life harder for the very people they claim to support.
UPDATE! The A7C strangely doesn't have IR.. probably to keep it tiny? everything else appears good!
Yeah so the only way to get a remote to work is to by that Vlogger grip for 150$ that works with the A7C, ZV1 & ZVE10 by using the Bluetooth feature
7USD =) yeah... but here in Germany they want us to pay 26,99€ and we can save 7€ XD
Laaame.

I love this! I remember my old Handycams had little remotes like this and I loved them.
they are probably the same ones and still work haha. keep up the hard work Tom, you're a hustler!
@@chrisbrockhurst thanks Chris! The old remotes seem to work with limited functionality, so I ordered the official one through your link 👍
Does it work with Sony A7IV? Sony A7IV have IR control?

Can it reset timecode on multiple sony cameras at once? Some of the Sony remotes had a button for this. VERY useful for synchronizing timecode
That would be amazing!

Sony does have a remote for that but it's super expensive and for studio customers it's called a CCU RMB-170
Does it work with a7iv? Because it doesn’t show IR option
Asked the same question

Hi there question,
are you able to toggle between the different custom mode (1 2 3)?
Can you rack focus with this also?

above works sort of, IR is line of sight so behind wouldn't work, unless you have a mirror!
@@chrisbrockhurst Thanks brother
How to pair it with the Sony a7IV?
Oh ye. Maybe will buy it. But you still have to turn camera right?
Turn it on? Yeh

Does this remote work with Sony RX10 IV? If yes then how to setup? I cannot find the menu item "Remote Ctrl" or "IR Remote Ctrl".
I'm curious, what would happen if you were running two cameras next to each other and both had IR remote enabled?
this is a great question, id be inclined to think it might work for both? I dont know the tech behind IR
