    Once saw a guy with a broken bottle walking about in town centre on a night out.
    Police man walked up asked if he was ok and started talking to him like a human being not a criminal.
    They both sat down on the curb and chatted for a few minutes. Then the guy stood up and apologised for scaring everyone and the police said they would drive him home to sleep it off. #Britishness

      Yes, that's a good true story for Americans. British cops are not all perfect, but they don't kill people for some stupid tiny reason. I once saw a London police office deal with some aggressive youths, who wanted to kick the hell out of some strangers. He made them take the laces out of their boots, then let them go home... The police officer didn't have a gun and didn't have any visible weapon.

    When I did a ridealong with the LAPD, they rolled out the red carpet. Every officer I met was very impressed by British Police, they would shout "no guns" "youre badass" and shake my hand or high five me no matter what incident I attended. Once, a sargeant said "any trouble you take this gun and you use it".. I was stunned into silence.. he said "youre a police officer you use a gun right" when I said no we dont carry guns he asked how can you do your job? They were really nice people.

      It's unlikely you'll ever be attacked, but should you be carrying a gun can literally be the difference between life and death. In that regard, it is not unlike a seatbelt.
      Being a cop is not all that dangerous, on average, in the USA. Commercial fishers, truck drivers, farmers, loggers and the like all have more dangerous jobs than police officers. Granted, certain cities are more dangerous but that also means that with the law of averages others cities are safer than the average.

Also, which country has the highest number of mass school shootings which are carried out by their parents 'legal' guns? Gun control does work but it requires the majority of the country to agree. The numbers killed in terrorist attacks is minute in comparison to the numbers of Americans killed each year by 'legal' guns.
      Where is the hero with the legal gun that stops the criminals from using them in America? That shit just doesn't happen, everyone runs away and screams, no one turns around, shouts 'Murica and "opens fire" back at them.

      EXACTLY. Been saying this for years but it just won't go through the thick skulls of the gun freaks. A black market only exists for a product if there is a very high demand because of the risk involved. If the risks are very high, ie, extremely long prison sentences for anyone caught in possession or selling a gun then the sellers and buyers simply won't bother. PLUS, because it's so risky the prices sky rocket and therefore lunatic mass shooters, who are often young kids simply can't afford them. Not to mention they are middle class and therefore don't have the contacts in the criminal underworld to know where to even begin finding a gun in the first place. Besides, why would criminals need a gun in the UK? No one else carries a gun so there is no need for them to take the risk of carrying one themselves.

    Point worth making though: there are still thousands of sporting gun clubs all over the UK even now, with the strict laws. The only question you have to watch out for on your licence application is "What will you be using the firearm for?" If you answer "self-defence" you won't just be rejected, you'll probably be investigated. But if you answer correctly (shooting vermin if you're a farmer or shooting for fun if you're an ordinary Joe), then you've passed. Well, the first stage anyway. There's a lot more to it than that. But after all the checks, you can own a rifle or a shotgun and shoot as much as you like. Just not at other people. Seems rather civilised to me.

      It _is_ illegal to drive a car if you haven't passed a test, don't have a valid license with you, don't have insurance or haven't cleared a background check for medical issues and criminal history. Strangely, you don't need any of those things to own a gun in the US, but you do need all of those things to own a gun in the UK. And even more strangely, the murder rate in the UK is 1/5th of that in the US. It's really weird, but there's no way they could be related, right?? Because the 2nd amendment says it's ok it MUST be ok???? BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY YOU COULD CHANGE A SET OF LAWS THAT WERE MADE TO BE "AMENDED" AND HAVE BEEN AMENDED SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT HISTORY TO THE POINT THAT THESE "AMENDMENTS" HAVE BECOME AN ICON OF AMERICAN FREEDOM, RIGHT???

    • @MillionFoul
      @MillionFoul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@idot3331 Actually, you do have to pass a background check to own a firearm in the US, federally, and many states have stricter requirements. You do not (in most places) need to be licensed to posses a firearm because it's a right (do you need a license to go to Church?), ditto for passing a test (besides the NICS check), nor do you need insurance because why the fuck would you need insurance to own a gun? That literally makes no sense, since health insurance is a separate required thing, and if you shoot someone who's not you the civil responsibility is the same as if you had injured or killed someone any other way. If you break your gun that's on you, unlike a car, both due to straight up expense and the fact that the easiest way to break a car is by running it into another one. It's a pretty garbage comparison, really.
      The murder rate is lower, but that's hardly a function of firearm ownership and more of culture. The UK is a country where people have been arrested for saying racist things on social media, and you have to have a license for owning a television. The US is also fucking massive, with a very diverse spread of crime, it would be better to compare individual states to the UK since they're more similar in geographic size and population distribution than the US as a whole. For example, Wyoming has about 63 guns per person, but a gun murder rate of 1.7/100,000, where New York has .003 guns per person and has a gun murder rate of 1.9. In the US, there is no real correlation between guns and getting murdered. Also, I'd personally rather live with a slightly increased risk of death from another person (a factor I can mitigate by not being retarded), than live in a nanny state where the government might tase and arrest me for having an electrician's screwdriver in my front pocket after work.
      You could change the second amendment, if you had a super-majority in both houses of Congress and the states agreed to ratify the amendment. There's be no reason to do that, however, because gun control doesn't work, for one, and two, because a reduction in gun crime does not correlate with a reduction in legal guns in the US. If you want, there's a great interview with a cop in the UK on Mike the Cop's channel where he talks about being held at gunpoint by a twelve year old, because criminals still have access to firearms even when everyone else doesn't. Now, I know you'll argue that you can get guns in the UK, but it's a regulatory hell and you have to keep them at a sporting club, so it's more like paying extra money to rent your own guns than it is ownership. I'd like to note a great ATF publication which reveals that 70% of the illegal guns recovered in California (where gun laws are the strictest in the US) originate from inside California, indicating that smuggling is not the issue and more that it's physically impossible to keep people from attaining firearms: www.atf.gov/docs/163532-caatfwebsite15pdf/download. Essentially, no matter what laws you put in place, up to and including restriction of the second amendment, criminals will still be running around with machine guns and handguns while your law abiding citizens are disarmed and unable to defend themselves.
      Anyway, the original point of my comment was this: If you take away all the guns, no shit way less people are going to get murdered with a gun. If you take away the air, no one will breathe air. It's a dumb argument to measure the use of something as a statistical point, while regulating the use of that something.

With the quarter of the population, the whole "You take away guns, knife crime will increase" is BS not only because A. By that logic if we can't eliminate all crime we shouldn't have laws at all, and B. It is a bit harder to shoot up a school with a knife. Also you can defend a lot easier against a knife versus a gun. If you train any martial arts (unlike those wannabe John Wicks over the pond.) you know that there are viable ways to disarm someone who has a knife. But instead of actually practising Unarmed combat they would rather shoot standing targets every 2 Fridays with the boys. If you are nothing without a gun, you should't have one to begin with. First learn any self defense martial arts or styles then move onto knife or other melee weapons training (same thing with people who like knifes or batons or whatever, they just don't train with them) and then only then should you get a gun if you really need it. And the thing is that most people don't need them they just WANT them. Guns aren't toys, they are used to take lives.

    • @merikano2985

      I grew up in New York state, arguably one of the top two or three states with the strictest gun laws - and 50% of the 300 million people living in the US hold up my state as an example of the government trying to take away the right to bear arms. Currently in New York this is how we are "restricting the right to bear arms."
      If you want a shotgun or rifle, you can buy one. Just so long as it doesn't have more than ten bullets in its magazine. If you need more than ten bullets for hunting or home defense before you reload, then you're either a bad shot or more likely you want that gun for something else. Open carry laws are also a thing. You can carry your gun around outside and no one can hassle you for it. The SAFE act (the most controversial gun law of all) basically made it illegal to modify your rifle with certain things. Things like a suppressor (silencer) or a collapsible stock or a fore grip or a sawed off shotgun. Basically the idea is to make it difficult for people wanting to use a semi-automatic gun as a means to kill a lot of people very quickly.
      In New York state handguns are illegal to own... unless you have a pistol permit. And those aren't that hard to get, unless you have a record or some severe mental health issue. Once you have your permit then the same laws apply to it as they do to the shotguns and rifles. You can even get concealed licenses to carry that pistol with you wherever you like so long as you provide valid reason.
      As for New York City the laws are even stricter but on a state by state basis that's the strictest that gun laws are in the US - a country where there are more guns than people. And that's the other half of the problem. There are just so many guns now we're closer to Nigeria or Somalia than we are to UK or Australia in guns per capita. That's more than 300 million guns in a country geographically the same size as Europe.
      I'm not worried about someone breaking in and stealing things. Chances are a thief will run if they get caught. But we do have a drinking problem in the US - we get called out on it and rightfully so. Drunk men with guns, zero inhibitions whatsoever pissed off for any number of reasons. If we could magic wand all the guns in the US away then I'd be all for it. But we can't and so now even reasonable people like myself think... Maybe a shotgun? You never know when some drunk idiot will drive their truck onto your lawn and waving a gun around.

      Not true. The maximum jail sentence for illegal possession of a gun depends on the type of gun in the UK becuase the law makes a distinction between prohibited guns and non-prohibited guns... For guns that can be legally owned (like shotguns and hunting rifles for example) but where the owner is prohibited from having one (say becuase they are a convicted criminal) the maximum is 5 years... For guns that are prohibited for any civilian to own regardless (like a fully automatic rifle) the maximum is 10 years.
      Believe it or not you can legally own some types of guns in the UK and there are over 2 million guns legally in public hands, you just have to get the paperwork sorted first which means sending off an application form to your local police and installing a gun safe in your home. It's awkward but not impossible.

I've been stabbed, glassed, bottled, had ribs broken, my front teeth are chipped, i'm slightly deaf in one ear and i've got several scars on my head.
      Not being allowed to use a device that can kill an opponent from range means I had to either learn to fight and pick up a few injuries or start running away. All you've done in America is replace teaching your children how to fight with hundreds of thousands of needless murders.

    • @Anon54387

      @@timl4257 Tim, we did try restricting carry of guns for about a 30 year period (from the mid 1960s through the mid 1990s) it was virtually impossible to legally carry in 49 of the 50 states. The result was a homicide rate multiples higher than before or since. The only state that didn't outlaw carry of guns was Vermont, and it's homicide rate remained low all along.
      Most laws are at the state level in the USA due to how our Constitution is written. If one was to break any law the probability is one would be tried in a state or county court here in California. If one did certain things like federal tax evasion, smuggling, kidnapping that took a victim across state lines or smashed the windows on the capital building one would face federal charges.
      It's interesting in that just last year when had a major Supreme Court case titled New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v Bruen. When the decision had been made but not yet publicly announced, naturally there was a lot of discussion about what the decision would exactly be. Everyone knew it would be pro-gun rights, but whether one opposes or supports gun rights none of us knew just how far exactly the decision would go.
      One of these discussions was on PBS Hawaii (PBS being our Public Broadcasting System in the USA) where they had a discussion between pro and anti gun rights people with 3 on each side of the issue. One of those in opposition to gun rights was former Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin. He basically did the job of what Victoria Prentis does for UK government but in the Hawaii state government rather than the US national government in Washington DC. We have one attorney general for the federal government and 50 state attorneys general for each of their state governments. Anyway, he said that he was against loosening of gun restrictions because Hawaii's gun laws, Doug claims, are why it is the state with the 7th lowest homicide rate in the USA. What Doug didn't mention, though, is that none of the 6 states with lower homicide rates yet have anything like Hawaii's restrictions. In fact, those 6 states all allow carry without a permit. Currently 27 states have permitless carry. These decisions are made at the state level in the USA so they've individually gone to permitless carry over the 20-30 years, although the process has accelerated lately. Every time a state goes to permitless carry the left wing of American politics says that blood will be running in the streets. This is the worst sort of fear mongering because it never actually comes true, and I think that's exactly what they are afraid of. They are being exposed as having told huge lies for decades on this issue, and they have nowhere to hide on that.
      There was a time in the USA when we didn't have the school shootings. It was when we put bonkers people in psychiatric hospitals for a permanent stay. Legally, that can no longer be done. The Parkland and Uvalde shooters both had histories that would've, in times past, resulted in being committed to a psychiatric hospital permanently. Indeed, this is true of virtually every mass shooter in the USA. BTW, there are those Americans who say we should follow the example of Australia when they confiscated all those guns in the 1990s after Port Arthur. That Port Arthur shooter was another that had a history of violent, sadistic, reckless, dangerous behaviors going back to childhood yet he wasn't put in a psychiatric hospital until after he killed 35 people in cold blood.

    You should check how the police does it in Finland as well. Here the police do carry firearms(because hunting weapons are so prevalent here and sometimes get into the hands of criminals) but are incredibly well trained and rarely have to use them. Even less often do they have to shoot to kill, those numbers are best spoken in decades as well. Like, statistics tell that between 2003 and 2013, police here used warning shots 40 times, had to shoot to wound 20 times and had to kill two people. That is a country wide statistic.

      That isn't total bullshit actually.Quite a bit of our brain is for controlling muscles,whales have huge brains for example, not that they are smarter than a dolping,but they have huge muscle groups that they have to control.A similar thing might have happened with these retards.If you don't use a lot of your brain to think,you might have some more of your brain controlling your muscles. I am just speculating with the limited knowledge I have on the subject though, don't take my word for it.

    It just shows our gun laws work quite well. You can own a licensed firearm here. I've owned a rifle and a musket in the past. There's strict control on its use and you cannot carry a loaded gun in the streets. Obvious safety rules etc. My guns were only used for reenactments and hunting but I don't shoot anymore so I sold them.

      be aware: all cops in the world carry guns except for those in UK. Cops with guns are the standard in european countries and we are doing pretty fine. here in Portugal all cops are armed and we had like..1 suspect killed in 25 years or so

    • @Mattrix94gaming
      @Mattrix94gaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Negociador PT 1143 Not all cops in the EU are armed. The Gardaí in Ireland are unarmed, with a baton and pepper spray as their main equipment. Armed Gardaí and detectives can carry guns, but the average street cop is unarmed. Also, the PSNI officers have a sidearm, so not all UK cops are unarmed.

    • @dedeferreira98
      @dedeferreira98 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Mattrix94gaming
      @Mattrix94gaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Negociador PT 1143 Well, thats not necessarily true. The Gardaí, from my own conversations with a guard, are not armed with firearms. They may opt for firearms training, which permits them to carry a gun, but normally, the only armed officers on the Irish force are detectives, Regional Support units and Emergency response units. As with carrying guns in the car, they have to drive a car that is marked with a red stripe to show they are armed, and the have to wear different uniforms to regular officers. However, the average squad car does not carry firearms.

    • @potterpotty01
      @potterpotty01 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some European countries also still have national service as a requirement. If you spend time in the armed forces you learn to use firearms properly and respect them.
